[ Squad Ten ]

We never got around to voting on either position. We ought to do it now. Or put forward formal nominations, at the least.

I'm placing my name in contention for Jury, for the reasons I have previously stated.

NOMINATIONS (OPEN) / VOTING (ONGOING):

JURY

I refuse to deal in flowery hypotheticals. You abandoned your post. It cost us very dearly. You seem bafflingly intent on convincing me you are not in the wrong, which I find to be extraordinarily embarrassing behavior for an officer of your rank. If we were back home, I'd have done you the favor of shooting you for dereliction before you could make such a spectacle of yourself.

As it is, I cannot. It may be that in the moment you believed you were in the right. It may be that you truly believe now that what you did was excusable or not that bad or possibly even for the best. I do not care. I am not interested in discussing it with you. What's done is done. It matters to me not one fraction of one fucking speck of dust whether you are in the right or in the wrong. It has no bearing on what's happened and now must be dealt with. It is simply not important. It is never important.

I think you know that I am pragmatic in my alliances. We share certain values and priorities that are here in short supply. I do not intend to isolate myself unnecessarily. We can agree to work toward our common goals, which have always been the only things that matter. The rest is filler.

I think you know me well enough to know, General, how well it's worked out for anyone who's attempted to pull their sidearm on me. I refuse to watch my back around you, though, and if you're suggesting that's something I now have to do, then we have a problem.

If we don't have a problem, then I'd like to forget this mess entirely and continue on as we were before. I've made my choice.

I have no intention of harming you here.

I am glad you no longer see the need to discuss it further. There is no going back to what something was before; there is only going on with what it is.

Good to know.

I'm curious, did your father ever tell you the story of what happened before you found me?

I read the mission report. We did not engage in after-dinner chats, as you well know.

The official report, I take it?

Have you always hinted this much, or is it some obnoxious habit you've learned here? Just say what you have to say, or don't.

I'm not hinting, I'm just curious to know whether you read his report or mine - mine being the official one. You know your father's perspective was a bit skewed towards the obnoxiously self-involved. He certainly passed that trait down. I've been thinking about it a lot these past few weeks, given that I've had the time and isolation to do so.

I read the report which was provided; presumably, then, it was yours. I found it to be sufficient, if a touch overly episodic. My father had a great many flaws. If reminiscing on them provides you with helpful perspective, I wish you the best of it.

It provided me with a sense of stability when none other was offered, truth be told. And yes, that does sound like mine. Good. Then we don't need to discuss any of that either.

Shall we move forward, then, General - you and I? Together. We always have been stronger together.

That is what I have proposed. The survival of our common cause is always the primary consideration. I can't pretend to feel friendly towards you. But I have always worked side by side with those I thought most essential to our purpose.

I can't say my feelings have changed, but I also can't say that's ever mattered when it comes to the greater good. I will now, as I always have, do whatever I need to do to ensure the success of the First Order above all else. Whatever the cost.

Though you should know
