Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: roxanne weasley, character: theodore nott

RP: Roxanne & Theo
Who: Theo & Roxanne
What: Dinnertime interruptions
Where: Starting in the great hall, then to Roxanne's room
When: June 3rd, dinner

Roxanne bounced into the Great Hall, scanning the heads of the people eating dinner and shooting a grin to a few of her cousins before finally spotting her target. Good, she'd half been expecting him to still be at his desk, with some poor house elf serving him snacks. With all her considerable amount of determination, she marched between the tables, coming to a halt just behind Theodore Nott.

"I need to borrow you," she announced, as way of introduction. Without thinking, Roxanne reached down and grabbed Theo's hand, pulling him to his feet before dragging him unceremoniously out of the hall. "It's almost done," she said over her shoulder, all but skipping on the balls of her feet as she led them up staircases and through corridors (secret and normal) in the direction of her rooms. "I think we've cracked it. It was that ratchet wheel, just like you said. It wasn't oscillating properly or something. Anyway, it didn't seem right to fire her up without you."

Pushing her door open, Roxanne gestured to the rather impressive (she thought so, anyway) astrarium sitting on the centre workbench. It had to be said, it was very pleasing, with its gleaming bronze curves and interlocking wheels. In her mind, she compared it to a particularly elegant wand - the finished product certainly gave her the same rich feeling of satisfaction. Greater than the sum of it's parts, or whatever. Pleased, Roxanne crossed the room and snatched up the wheel from where she'd left it, holding it out to Theo. "Go on, then."

It had been at least 30 hours since Theo had last left the DoM office. Right at the moment things were amping up and not wanting to leave any work untouched he'd holed up inside, sleeping only when it couldn't be helped, eating what he could have brought to him and just pouring over his research. His calculations were almost done, he had his baseline readings compiled for the castle. Now with Pettigrew's information from the house elves, it seemed he would have to go out again on the weekend to record readings where the mysterious objects were discovered, or as he liked to think of them, the rubbish rummage sale items. Which meant more numbers and more numerology and just thinking about it felt a little tedious. Still it had to be done, and it had to be done correctly, and he wasn't handing his instruments over to just anyone to use. The background noise of the Great Hall was distracting and he found himself grateful it was fairly occupied today. Everyone seemed to be taking the time to mingle around before heading off to do whatever task they had assigned to them for the day.

Theo idly flipped through the pages of his journal while finishing off the last of his cup of tea. Scorpius had his weather update and holiday list and he just sighed and thought about when he'd save a few of his twenty days off for. Then of course was the posting from Potter about the Veil and teams and the forbidden forest. That was all well and good he thought. Close to nothing would make him want to go into that horrid place, he thought while making a face. It was better that others did it. Glancing down at the list for a moment he made a mental note to ask Regulus about the information that was only for the teams about the mission, or plan, or whatever.

Closing up his journal he placed it in his pocket and sat quiet for a moment, letting himself zone out for a brief moment before he heard a familiar voice behind him. What Roxanne had said hadn't registered yet when he felt the tug of his hand and found himself being lead out of the hall and off to who knew where. He smiled softly, letting himself be guided along the way and watching the excitement with which Roxanne bounded off towards her room. "I'm glad you waited," he admitted and realized he had been so caught up with his work he had for the moment forgotten about it entirely. "I could use a break."

Theo headed directly for the workbench taking in with notable enthusiasm the rather impressive mechanics of the astrarium. "You did make some bold choices." He liked the prominent choice of bronze and the way the light caught it just so, giving it a warm glow. Most of all he wanted to hear it, the way it started up and the clicks and turns of the gears in motion. He held out his hand to take the wheel, eager to give it a start and stopped.

"You should start it. I only helped a little."

"And they call me a workaholic," Roxanne grumbled, but a teasing smile cracked her features as she watched him approach the gently gleaming project. It was always fun, finding someone who would appreciate stuff like this as much as she did. It didn't happen often enough, really. Sure, she got that people liked flying and potions and runes and all that stuff - she liked a lot of it too. But it just didn't compare to putting something together with your own hands and seeing it come to life. To see it evolve and bloom out of nothing.

She snorted as he hesitated. "You did loads. If you'd left me to it I'd probably have accidentally built a coffee pot or something." Still, she didn't need telling twice. Stepping around Theo, she ducked to take a look at the one face which remained open, finding the empty slot in the mechanics and sliding the wheel in. It secured itself with a satisfying clunk as Roxanne fished her wand from her back pocket, twirling it and watching the various screws and cogs tighten around it.

"There," she straightened up, sliding her wand behind her ear in a triumphant motion. Her gaze flew to Theo, then to the small key-like dial tucked away down the side of the instrument. "Now you've just got to wind it. It's a team effort, Nott."

"There are worse things to be called," he added with a chuckle. Theo watched Roxanne set the wheel in place and lock it in a with a flick of her wand. He quietly observed, only inching over a little to allow her to pass alongside him to set to her task. People didn't understand how much care, time and effort went into endeavors like this one. Most started on a lark, get so far and then give up once it becomes complicated. Not Roxanne though, he thought with an appreciative glance her way. Certainly not himself either, he was reasonably sure given the right equipment and tools, he could build anything.

"I very much doubt that," he said with a small laugh. He helped a bit for sure with a few necessary elements, the rest however was Roxanne and her alone. "Let's say 30/70," he joked. That too might be a stretch he thought. She had made an impressive machine and he couldn't wait to see it run for the first time and that it would work he had no doubt.

Stepping forward Theo reached for the dial and began to wind, he glanced back for a moment and smile. "My mistake. I've never been much of a team player, although don't teams usually have names?" he said finishing to wind and then releasing the dial and stepping back to stand alongside Roxanne, watching her reaction as the gears started to turn.

He could hear the whirl of the wheels and grinding of the gears and clicks of cogs turning and and knew it was going to work, and very satisfied and relaxed grin tugged at the corners of his lips.

Roxanne stepped back a little, winding her arms around herself as Theo prepared the mechanism. It should work. She couldn't think of any reason it wouldn't. But still, there was a faint sense of anxious anticipation running through her as she waited.

"I suppose," she agreed as he came back to stand beside her. She could see his pleased smile out of the corner or her eye, and it didn't do much for the slight knot in her stomach. "Team grease monkey? Hah! Yes!"

The astrarium, which had been clicking into life, suddenly made a smooth whirring noise and started to move. Roxanne beamed delightedly, reaching out to smack Theo repeatedly on the arm with excitement, her dark gaze not leaving the machine. "We did it! Look at it!"

Bounding forward and ducking down, Roxanne took a closer look at the way the dials were turning, watching the small planets ticking gently around their suns. She had no bloody idea how to read the damn thing, obviously, but it looked amazing.

Still grinning, she turned back to her dark haired companion, bouncing up on her tiptoes to press a quick kiss to his cheek. "Thanks."

"It works," he said to the name. Roxanne's excitement was almost contagious and he too felt the slight hitch in his stomach in anticipation. Not just for the astrarium to start but for how he was going to react when it did. He had already made his mind up as he had wound up the key, and he kept a watchful eye on Roxanne as her enthusiasm grew, and her excitement at creation boiled over. He took the hits to his arm with a playful shrug and smile, letting his arm come to rest lightly on the small of Roxanne's back.

It really was a wonder to look at in all it's completion. How to read it would come later but for now he could appreciate the simplistic beauty of the synchronicity of it's mechanics working in perfect metered perpetual motion. He listened intently knowing if anything was off, even by a little he'd hear it. People so very often took such simple and meaningful things for granted. Things worked because they did, and they gave so very little thought as to the how and the effort it took to bring something from nothing to realization. Then again most people were rubbish, he wagered. Although there were a few brightly burning lights amongst them.

Theo waited, keeping close watch on Roxanne out of the corner of his eye. When she stepped onto her tiptoes and leaned in with a sweet thank you, he pulled her in a little closer, his hand a little more firmly against the small of her back and turned to meet her. "Your welcome," he said close enough to feel the brush of his lips against her own as he spoke, before softly pressing his lips against her own.

It was a bit disconcerting, really. One moment she was dropping back from Theo, and then there was warm, gentle pressure against her lower back and he was close again, all intense eyes and dark hair and...

Oh. Right then.

All of a sudden there were lips against hers and she froze for a minute. Well, maybe not a minute... at least a few seconds at any rate. Honestly, she blamed the astrarium. Sitting there ticking away and looking all brilliant after Merlin knew how long... it was easy to get carried away with the whole situation. But however many seconds later Roxanne's arms were sliding around Theo's neck and she was kissing him back. Then her brain seemed to short circuit and she was deepening the kiss, suddenly back up on her toes again because he was really quite stupidly tall.

And, it turned out, quite a fantastic kisser. Not that she'd ever wondered, or anything.

It was more her general need for oxygen that had her pulling back in the end. She stared at him - not that there was much else she could do when he was that close to her. "Are you- wait," she slid her arms back off his shoulders and fixed him with what she hoped was a serious look. "I'm not totally sure that's good teammate behaviour."

It was impulsive and Theo knew he had caught Roxanne off-guard, but honestly he thought, that was the fun of it wasn't it? With some questions you really didn't know the answer until you did. And once the shock of his actions had subsided he was met with lips that were soft and pliant, and although eager he was patient. He returned the kiss teasing with subtle quick flicks of his tongue. She tastes sweet he thought, smiling into the kiss as he felt her hands sliding round his neck.

At the sound of the word wait, Theo pulled back reluctantly. "Am I, what?" He said a little breathlessly. "I did say thirty-seventy, so I feel that does leave some leeway," he said resting his forehead against her own. His expression was light and bright and he couldn't help the smile that spread plainly across his lips. "It is fun, isn't it?" He said with his hand still pressed against the small of her back. He could feel the fabric of her shirt bunching up beneath his hand, and he brushed it aside. Theo let his hand rise under the fabric to glance along the soft, silken skin of her spine. Just the slightest of glances, just enough to send a chill and feel the raised lightly raising trail of gooseflesh in it's wake.

Theo drew quiet waiting and watching the posed serious expression on her fair face, and wondered what she was thinking. He imagined it wouldn't take too long to find out. "I could stop, if that's what you want."

It was fun, and with that smile, he obviously knew it. But it was hard to think of a decent retort with the way his hand was skimming the bare skin of her lower back. Instead Roxanne raised an eyebrow, her failed attempt at a serious expression cracking as a corner of her mouth twitched upward.

Roxanne was the first to admit she usually quite liked to be in control of stuff, and perhaps she ought to have seen this coming or, at least, acknowledged that it was a possibility. Looking back, that had been stupid. But it wasn't an unpleasant kind of surprise, even if a few more obvious warnings might have been appreciated. After all, Theodore Nott was very pleasant to look at. Plus he was smart and had nice hands which could build very beautiful machines, and once he relaxed a little, he made her laugh...

Well, let's just say there were much worse ways Roxanne could think of spending a Thursday night.

"Well, obviously not," she replied. After all, she was surpised, not stupid. Or dead. Rather than bother thinking up something clever to say, Roxanne tangled her fingers in the front of his shirt and lifted her face up to kiss him again, her body curving into his. It went on longer this time, deepening into a second and third kiss, her fingers eventually unclenching from Theo's shirt and drifting upwards to his neck and jaw.

He loved the way her seriousness broke apart and his green eyes met brown and searched for what she was thinking. It was a dizzying kind of excitement that filled him, that sent him reeling and when her expression cracked at the corner of her lips. Theo felt a slight hitch in his chest. Her hands at his shirt, pulling him close and the crush of her lips against his own and his mind went blank, save for the feeling of her skin beneath his hands and the slight gasp of satisfaction he felt, leaning into her petite feminine frame. His arms circled her, gathering her against him, and he spoke between kisses. "Your ridiculously short," he teased, leaning his face into the movement of her hands along his neck and jaw.

His hands firmly falling to her hips he hoisted her to wrap her legs round his waist. Not knowing what was going to happen when he acted on impulse, he hadn't realized how much he wanted more. Roxanne was complicated, if he was he was inclined to think. Which at the moment he was not. But lingering in the back of the further recesses of his mind, he thought she was beautiful, clever and talented and fun to be around. It was rare to find someone who held his interests and any measure of interest in him beyond the moment. But she did, and as he discovered she was a fantastic kisser, and he had wondered. Although he would be pressed to admit it.

He left a trail of soft kisses along her neck, his hand rising to meet the back of her neck and playing lightly in her hair. His other arm he used to hold her close, bracing her minimal weight as he began to slowly walk.

"I'm a bloody normal height, is all," she argued, although most of the words seemed to be swallowed pretty immediately by the mouth against hers. "You're the -"

But whatever remarkably clever thing she was about to say (and it would have been clever and Ravenclaw-like. Probably.) was cut off by a noise of faint surprise as she found herself suddenly lifted off her feet. Not that she minded; it would stop her getting a crick in her neck, for one thing. And for another... well, it was kind of hot. Roxanne felt herself smile against Theo's lips, her jean-clad legs wrapping around him as his mouth trailed down her neck in a very distracting way. She wasn't sure she even registered they were on the move until she was placed (plonked? Who knew? Or cared?) down on what turned out to be the workbench on the other side of the room.

"Ouch," she muttered, reaching down and pulling a self-smoothing chisel out from under her thigh, discarding it to one side before reaching for him again. Her hands skimmed around, deftly untucking his shirt at the back and sliding beneath the fabric.
