RP: Full Moon
Who: Anyone who wants to be involved
When: Monday, 26 April, 2038 - Tuesday, 27 April, 2038
Where: On the grounds and then in to the castle
What: A couple werewolves just trying to get by with a little help from friends

Another month. Another moon.

Though he understood the potion worked now, was a miracle if he was honest, Remus still wasn't interested in taking too many chances. Not until he had a few months without incident under his belt. So, he still planned on using the Pitch to transform and run with the others. It would do him good to stretch and run. He'd noticed the previous month that the wolf form had the exact opposite reaction to the transformation as his human form. Where the transformation at the end of the night left him exhausted and barely able to move, the wolf form benefited from running and gently working pained muscles. It was probably something the curse needed to survive. No use having a violent predator that couldn't spread the infection of the curse because he was in too much pain to move. Still, it was something Remus had never noticed until the previous moon.

He'd offered to let Fenrir join them and he'd taken Remus up on that offer this month. So, there would be two of them, plus Padfoot and Prongs.

This could either go really well, or terribly wrong. But, Remus was hopeful in favour of the former.

Peter had meant to message everyone, but he was getting the office ready and he was getting books and well, he forgot until it got too close to the end of the work day and he decided that he didn't want to make this into a production, not when Remus would be pretty snippy because of the full moon. Instead, he just walked down to the pitch after having dinner.

The days were longer and there was still light out even though they were getting closer to nine in the evening. It was also cold and rainy, which was not a good combination. He really wanted to change into Wormtail and be warmer that way, but of course bigger problems came to the forefront when he saw that everyone was there already.

"Evening," he said, hands in his pocket. "I hope it's fine that I'm here." He looked at Remus mostly, because he knew that everyone would follow his lead.

"Peter," Remus greeted his friend warmly from where he was purposefully staying nearest to Sirius. After their conversation the week before, Remus found himself gravitating toward Sirius when they were in the same room, as though his physical presence could convey the reassurances his words had failed to do. But, Peter's appearance in just that moment was a pleasant surprise as well.

"You're always welcome as far as I'm concerned." The smile he offered the other man wasn't quite as warm as it might have been. But, that was more the damp anticipation they were dealing with than any defect in his affection for Peter. He'd cast a temporary shield above where their little group was waiting to keep them drier. But, it was still cold and damp out on the pitch. "Although, honestly, if any of you want to avoid wet fur tonight, I wouldn't blame you."

Peter smiled back. "I need to be here to keep you on your toes. Who else will run in between bleachers and tire you out?" he teased, although with this potion, they might not need his small size, which had been good to distract Remus back in the days.

"Nah, a little rain is fine." He had skipped one full moon already, because he wanted to give everyone space, but he wouldn't anymore, not if Remus wanted him there.

"Well, I'm sure Pads here would try if I asked, but we'd likely just end up with both of us stuck trying to get our canine bodies to fit where they weren't intended to squeeze through." Remus laughed, his memories of those older times only rather vague thanks to the disorientation of the curse. "Besides, now that it's me inside my head, it'll be far more entertaining to try to pounce you," he teased

Snorting softly, he shook his head. "A little rain is cold and damp." He'd smell like petrichor and wet fur in the morning, but he wouldn't give up these nights with his friends for anything, despite the strain between them...for various reasons. They might be daft idiots sometimes, but they were his favourite daft idiots...himself included.

James & OPEN

James was walking around the edge of the pitch, checking the barriers and casting the occasional strengthening charm. It was probably not needed any more, thanks to the potion, but better to be safe than sorry. Anyway, it wasn't like they didn't do enough damage to the pitch anyway.

It also meant that he didn't have to have another awkward conversation with Peter. Not right now, anyway. James really wasn't in the mood for it. It was weird enough that this was the first time the four of them had really been together since arriving here, but then adding Fenrir Greyback into the mix? James had got to know the bloke a little better through work. He might even say he liked him, but he still felt a little on edge.

Still, they were here for Remus. That was the thing to focus on.

With a glance up at the darkening sky, James turned back to the barrier and continued his circuit. There was a particularly weathered slat a few feet away and he pulled his wand, squatting down to get a closer look.

Remus was focused on making sure Peter and Fenrir felt comfortable, not as though they were intruding on the evening. He was focused on staying close to Sirius and making sure he knew Remus was still there, that he wasn't going anywhere. Honestly, it was probably a good thing, in a way, because it meant he wasn't focusing on what was coming, the pain of the transformation.

But, he wasn't so focused on the three of them that he missed James separating himself from the group.

After watching his friend move around the pitch for a bit, Remus left the others with a quiet word and went to talk to James. He made an effort to not walk as silently as he could, seeing the tension in James' posture. It wouldn't do to startle him and get someone hexed on accident. Coming up beside him, he stayed standing, rather than squat down as well, not wanting to be seen as invading the moment if James really just wanted to be alone. He didn't ask if James was all right because he assumed he already knew the answer. So, instead, his question was "You going to be okay tonight?"

James heard Remus coming, knowing from the lightness of the footsteps who was approaching even before he turned round. Instead he carried on with his charm, watching the old wood weave itself back together.

When Remus spoke, he turned long enough to shoot him a smile, pushing his glasses up his nose.

"Course. You know me, Moony. Old reliable." The work was finished when he turned back and James tucked his wand away, instead knocking the repair with the heel of his hand. It gave a satisfying 'clunk' noise.

"Look at that," he said, pleased. "Solid as a rock. I should get paid for this stuff." Rocking back on his heels, James turned to face his friend properly, a shadow of concern passing over his face. He almost checked his watch, then remembered he'd left it in the room. "How you feeling? We've got a bit of time still, haven't we?"

"If you're Old Reliable, does that make Pads the Empress of Stormy Emotions? Because I think that makes me the plucky niece who doesn't think the man who proposed to her was serious," Remus cheeked with a bit of a soft smirk, not convinced for a moment but willing to let the bluff stand for a moment.

Squatting down, weight all on the balls of his feet, he did take a look at that, more to please James than from any real need to inspect the work. "You get paid for it and you'll be a proper upstanding citizen, marketable skill, respectable wife, successful son. No more acting like a carefree wastrel with us boys." He threw James a teasing wink before using his hands on his knees as leverage to push himself back up to a standing position.

"We've a bit of time left, don't worry." He smiled ruefully. "I can feel it crawling under my skin, so not long, but a bit more, yet." He wanted to say that it helped having all of them there. But, he suspected James wasn't ready to hear that sentiment, still.

James shot Remus a completely baffled look. "You know I have no idea what you're on about, right? Who's proposing to who?"

"Don't be disgusting," he snorted, giving the wood one last knock before following Remus' lead and clambering to his feet. "I'll always be a carefree wastrel at heart." It was cold, even if the charms kept the worst of the rain off them, and he fought off a shiver, pulling his coat a little more securely around himself as he looked out across the pitch. He could see the other three stood a little way away, their faces shadowed by the dying light.

"Alright," he nodded thoughtfully, pulling his thoughtful gaze away and instead gesturing at the final corner of the pitch. "I've just got this bit to check then I'm done." James quirked a dark eyebrow in Remus' direction. "I'm trying to contain my careless wastrelling to parts of the school that really deserve it. I might flood the dungeons later."

Remus laughed softly at his friend's expression. "Muggle books," he explained. "Main character's nickname was 'Old Reliable'. Mam loved 'em."

Rolling his eyes, he shook himself a bit like his alter-ego to stay drier and warm. The thing about having a slightly elevated body temperature that no one seemed to understand was that he felt the cold all that much more. He might be used to it, but it was still uncomfortable. "I'd like to see you tell Lily that and see how much wastrelling she approves of," he teased.

Following James gaze, he nodded. It wouldn't do to push this close to the transformation and, James said he was all right, then Remus would accept it for now and push later when claws and large incisors were not imminent. He snorted. "You will not flood the dungeons or you will have a cranky werewolf to deal with after," was his admonishment. Not to mention how badly Regulus might hex James for damaging his residence. "We're probably fine," he added, looking around. "But, since it doesn't hurt to check, I'll keep you company."

Fenrir was in seventh heaven. While the transformation into the wolf had been as painful as usual, once he was the wolf, he was... himself. Except he knew how to be a wolf and not a human trapped in a wolf's body. Which he kind of was but not. He didn't really know how to explain it except that it was weird and strange and absolutely amazing.

The world was full of weird and wonderful smells and sounds and it was almost overwhelming. He was vaguely aware of the others as he gave himself a good shake but for the moment they weren't really registering too much as he was far too caught up in the whole sensation of being the wolf.

His tail was wagging frantically in excitement as he raised his head and howled his delight, then without really thinking about what he was doing, he play-feinted towards the others in invitation before bounding off towards the other end of the pitch.

Remus had learned the previous month that his canine body held memories of past transformations that were vague at best to his human mind. It remembered to stop and pause until he got his bearings after the pain subsided. It remembered to sniff the air, checking for the presence of pack before moving, standing slowly. Scenting all of his pack on the air sent a thrill through that part of him that had claimed three lovably reckless boys as pack years ago and mourned the loss of that pack for too long. Giving a little yip of joy, he went closer to nuzzle each one in a sign of acceptance that was, again, something his wolf body knew to do instinctively while his human mind wanted to hug each one of them tightly.

The sound of the other wolf's howl brought his head up, instincts on alert for a brief moment until his human mind could remind that part of him that acted on instinct that Fenrir was there at his invitation.

At the playful challenge, Remus let out an amused huff and looked between his friends as if to say 'well? are we letting him get away like that?' The same built up energy he'd noticed the previous month was making itself known and he spared a tiny thought for whether this was what it had been like without the potion, if this playfulness was what his friends had experienced from him...after he'd ascertained they were neither threat nor food. Butting his head against Padfoot's shoulder, he cast a glance at Prongs and Wormtail, then let his muscles bunch underneath him to propel him forward as he bounded after Fenrir.

Moony was ready to run and he just hoped the other Marauders were willing to keep up with two werewolves.

Regulus watched from the Clock Tower Courtyard as the group made its way past the Quidditch gates and the Covered Bridge to get access to the castle. He looked on, ignoring the woman standing next to him.

"I couldn't sleep either. With all the howling, bad memories," Parvati said.

"I slept just fine," Regulus answered. "You should have picked the dungeon. You can't hear anything down there."

"But you're here too," Parvati said.

"Yes, but not because I couldn't sleep," he answered. "Didn't you say you wanted to help Greygack, why don't you?"

Parvati rolled her eyes. "I am here for Fenrir and I probably should give him a hand."

Regulus watched her go. He didn't need to hear what she was saying, it was clear as Greyback put an arm around her, clearly for help. He didn't move and waited until Remus and his band of merry idiots arrived. "Good morning, you look absolutely terrible and from the screaming it must feel even worse. I thought you might want to come to the dungeon to sleep it off."

Remus was not a fan of rainy Full Moons. He liked the rain any other day. But, even though it wasn't true, he always felt like the smell of wet fur stayed with him after the transformation. The damp also created a deeper ache in his already sore muscles. But, at least he didn't have to find some place to curl up and try to sleep in it this time.

He let his friends support him as they walked back to the castle, wet denim sticking to him and making walking that much more uncomfortable. He'd become self-sufficient over the years, able to force himself to get up the morning after and move, do whatever he needed to stay safe, sometimes try to keep a job. Although, the last couple of times he'd had a job to try and keep, he'd ended up fired due to suspicion of narcotic abuse due to the state he was in. But, over the last couple months, he'd tried to relax a little and let the others help because he knew it made them feel better.

Rain also had a tendency to mute the scents around him, which is why he didn't recognize Regulus immediately until they drew closer. He'd seen the shadow of someone watching at the entrance, but his brain was still somewhat pain-fogged so soon after the transformation.

"And yet still not as bad as it could have been," he quipped weakly with an attempt at his usual soft smirk. "I appreciate the offer, but are you sure you want me invading your space when you're at work? I'll be dead to the world for a few hours either way."

"And I don't see why it's somewhat okay since there are worse possibilities," he replied, and he knew that most people would see him as being a snob, but Remus understood that it was a joke. The real question was why didn't his brother understand, but that was a question for a later time.

"I have fifteen rooms and plenty of bathrooms in my quarters. I also have a house-elf that can ensure that everything is perfectly fine. I fail to see how you sleeping in one room would be considered invading, especially after being invited." He shook his head. "Come on, let's get you to bed. You need it."

Remus' grin was small and soft due to exhaustion, but still quick and easy. "I have a low bar for success." No blood -- his own or anyone else's. No frantic healing spells to keep him from bleeding out from self-inflicted wounds. He added able to joke with his new lover afterward to that list as well. He hadn't necessarily been expecting to see Regulus waiting for him at the castle entrance that morning. But, it warmed him through to See the younger man standing there.

Chuckling, he raised a hand in mock surrender. "Some people might consider it an invasion of their privacy to have someone stay in their space when they weren't there." They'd only been together for just over a week, after all. Remus didn't want to presume or make Regulus feel obligated to look after him. Living with a werewolf could be exceptionally draining on the non-werewolf partner, having to take care of them each month. Remus had seen it in his mother's face. "But, as you're sure, that would be easier. Thank you."

"Which is why you're a Gryffindor. Ambitious is not your trait, but mine, so let's aim for the best possible solution at all times, regardless of the situation," he answered, not caring what anyone around thought of his views, and that included his own brother.

"Some people do not have a large house within a castle or a house-elf to help. Lucky for you, I'm not 'some people." He moved to stand next to Remus. "Come on, let's get to the dungeon. We can continue this discussion after you've had some proper sleep and some food."

Parvati waved at the other men, but she wasn't here for Remus. Not that she disliked him. On the contrary, she had liked him as a professor, even if this wasn't the same man and she had barely spoken to him, but Remus had people here while Fenrir didn't.

"Hey there, let me give you a hand, yeah? You can put your arm around me and I'll help you get to your room," she said with a soft smile. The howling turned screams of the transformation were enough to tell her how painful it must be without her having to witness it. "We can go as slow as you need, maybe get you some tea in you before you fall asleep. Tea fixes everything."

Fenrir ached. He always did after the full moon. The transformations were always bad but at least this time he wasn't covered in scratches and blood. And some of the euphoria of keeping his own mind and not being alone had also survived the transformation. All in all, it left him feeling a little off kilter, tired, sore and with the sensation that he smelled like wet dog.

As a result, when he saw Parvati was there, waiting with a smile and willing to help, he couldn't help just gaping at her for a moment before he broke out into a tired smile before and letting himself lean on her.

"Hey," he said with a soft sigh. "You're here. This is nice. You smell nice. Wait, I shouldn't have said that. That was a weird thing to say." He stopped, aware that he was rambling, then tried again. "Sorry. Wolf is still a little close to the surface and that was a very wolf thing to say. Tea would be very nice. Tea and dry and something soft to sleep on."

"What? You're looking at me like you can't believe I'm here." She knew that it was exactly that, and she couldn't blame him after all that he'd told her. "I told you that you were stuck with me, and that means helping when you need help."

Parvati laughed at the compliment. "I do smell nice, thank you for noticing. It's the lavender soap I use and I also have a perfume that smells divine. It stays on you for a whole day, even after a shower. I don't even know where the house-elves got it, but I have to find out how to get more."

She walked slowly, keeping his pace. "Fenrir, men don't need to be werewolves to say all sorts of things to a woman. I've heard much worse so don't worry about it, but yes, let's get you inside, a quick cleaning spell a drying one and then you can get into bed. I'll hold on the fort at training, although they really should give up with that. James will be half asleep too."

"Never had anyone before," Fenrir said with simple honesty. He'd stopped going to St Mungos after the first few months, hating the looks they gave him. So he'd always been on his own afterwards.

"You smell nice to the wolf as well," he said. "That's a bit different." He scrunched up his face for a moment. "Well, Remus says the wolf is just me but it's never felt that way. But he knows more than me."

"Mmm, clean and dry," he mumbled. "It was fun last night, you know. Love that potion. Reckon Ron might have it right with his idea of using my wolf on the full moon to patrol or whatever."

Parvati smiled at him. "You have someone now. I'll help as much as I can and you don't have to do this alone, okay?" She knew she couldn't undo the damage done, but she could help prevent the damage that turned this person into the feral beast they had come to know while in school.

She chuckled. "I think Remus is right. The wolf is part of you, and I'm glad he approves, but maybe you can try telling me when you don't look like you want to pass out, yeah? Buy me a drink or dinner." Not that it would happen since they had everything for free, but it was easier to joke about that than concentrating on the pain he might be suffering.

"I'm glad that the Wolfsbane is helping you keep control, and that would be really good, maybe even going into the forest, but let's try a few more cycles of the moon when nothing happens, yeah? There are a lot of people out there with you and if something goes wrong-" It was much easier if it didn't happen in the forest where they couldn't help. "We can worry about that later, for now, let's get you to bed."
