The Room of Requirement has been set-up for a lively party. There's food (and cake!) thanks to the House-elves, and a surprisingly generous assortment of alcohol. Kirley has rigged up a music system to play a variety of music (heavy on the Weird Sisters obviously, but the RoR had a bunch of albums that had been left by various students throughout the ages so there's an eclectic mix). A dance space has been cleared, and there are little sitting areas arranged for more private moments--lots of cushions and pillows strewn about to make little nests, some squashy armchairs, etc. It's very clearly been sourced from all over the castle, and from items that had been left by students/faculty/professors through decades so the styles are all over the place. Kirley says it's not the Bubble Palace, but it's the best he could do on short notice.

"Five years? Darling, that's just a tragedy." Kirley's horror was completely genuine. He couldn't imagine a life where five years went by without a party. Those months when half the band had been on the run or in Azkaban had been bad enough. "I wish this was more of a proper one then, and not something cobbled together with whatever the castle could come up with. Give me a few more weeks, and I'll show you a real party."

1964 would make Fenrir ancient in the original timeline, but that was the good thing about time travel. Everyone got a second chance at being young and gorgeous. "I'm the lead singer for a band called the Weird Sisters. We got famous around 1994, and if my daughter is telling the truth we stayed together until...well, until everyone died." He just hoped they'd have another chance at that future. Sooner or later the band would show up. He knew they would.

"This is one of our songs, actually. From our 1999 album." Kirley loved this one; it was the first one they'd put out after the whole war thing had ended, a sign that things had gone back to normal.

Fenrir laughed a little. "You're going to show me a proper party, Savannah wants to throw me a real birthday party. I'm starting to like being here. Sure as hell better than the shitshow I was living back home."

"Seriously?" he said, his eyes wide. "That pretty damn cool." He cocked his head to listen to the song, shaking it slightly when it felt like he was listening to every damn conversation in the room before he was able to focus. "Yeah, that's good stuff. You guys are talented." He snorted. "Not that I know much about music but I know what I like."

He smiled wryly. "I'm guessing my musical tastes are going to be pretty ancient by everyone's standards. I've just been getting into this Muggle band that's hit the big time in England and overseas. They're called the Beatles. They still around in your time?"

"Well, she is my daughter so it's good to know she takes after me in all the important ways," he said, only wincing a little at the admission of being a father to a grown woman. Since he was the same age, or nearly, as he was when she'd been born, he tried not to let it bother him too much. Mostly by remembering that he didn't have to deal with diapers or sticky hands. "It's not all bad here, but it's definitely a change."

He grinned at the reaction. "It is pretty damn cool." He watched Fenrir as he listened to the music. Seeing people enjoy the Weird Sisters' music was one of his favorite things. "We are, and there's nothing wrong with knowing what you like when you hear it. That's the hallmark of good music." Some people said that taste was subjective, but Kirley wasn't sure he agreed with that entirely. Sometimes, things were just good or bad, nothing subjective about it.

"The Beatles are icons, but they broke up before I was born. Their music lasted, though. Some bands just have It, even if their time together isn't eternal." He didn't mention Leon's death. That was too depressing for a party. "The castle came up with a copy of Abbey Road, actually. Some student must have left it here once upon a time. It's from after your time, but one of their best."

"She's your daughter?" Fenrir said with surprise. The man didn't look old enough to have a daughter Savannah's age but then again... "I'm guessing that the castle brought you here at different points?"

"My dad..." He broke off and swallowed hard. "My dad always listened to jazz and my mum to classical stuff. They both hated rock'n'roll." he chuckled, dredging up a good memory about his parents. Well, sort of good. Funny anyway. "I thought mum was going to have heart attack the first time she saw Elvis Presley on the TV when we were at my aunt's place." He paused then explained, "Mum's Muggleborn. Anyway, she saw Elvis twirl his hips and almost choked. Then she gave me a clip 'round the ear when I tried to mimic him. Told me if she ever caught me moving my hips like that in her house, she'd come after me with a broom."

It hurt to talk about them like this when they'd turned round and rejected him the way they had but that wasn't Kirley's problem and it was a funny story. At least Kirley was more likely to appreciate it since he knew who the Beatles were and so presumably would know who Elvis was.

"I'm going to have to listen to that one," he said with interest. "Anything else you'd recommend?"
