RP: Party!
Who: Everyone!
When: 8pm onward, 13 March
Where: The Room of Requirement
What:PARTY!

The Room of Requirement has been set-up for a lively party. There's food (and cake!) thanks to the House-elves, and a surprisingly generous assortment of alcohol. Kirley has rigged up a music system to play a variety of music (heavy on the Weird Sisters obviously, but the RoR had a bunch of albums that had been left by various students throughout the ages so there's an eclectic mix). A dance space has been cleared, and there are little sitting areas arranged for more private moments--lots of cushions and pillows strewn about to make little nests, some squashy armchairs, etc. It's very clearly been sourced from all over the castle, and from items that had been left by students/faculty/professors through decades so the styles are all over the place. Kirley says it's not the Bubble Palace, but it's the best he could do on short notice.

It had been a while since Draco had been to a party. More than a while, honestly. He legitimately couldn't remember the last one, and that was a realization he didn't particularly need right now. Every day he spent here was one more nail in the coffin of his old life. He'd cut himself off so thoroughly from everyone and everything... If it hadn't been for Theo he might have spent the last five hears as a complete and total hermit. In fact, the closest thing to a social gathering had attended since Azkaban were those yearly memorials, and he only went to those to see Harry.

Speaking of Harry, he knew the man had to be around here somewhere, and if he was going to suffer through this Gryffindor nightmare of a social occasion then Harry was going to suffer it with him. Maybe they could even try out that 'holding hands' thing.

He spotted Weasleys red hair through the crowd, and where there was a Weasley there was sure to be a Potter. But Weasley was alone. Draco almost turned around and walked away, but they'd already made eye contact and he should probably try to be nice to Harry's best friend.

"Hello Weasley. I see you're Potter and Grangerless?"

Ron liked parties for the most part, though it had been a while since he'd been to a proper one. There was too much work for parties, so aside from Sunday lunch at the Burrow, his social schedule pretty much consisted of drinking with Harry on the rare times they weren't working. So it was nice to relax for an evening even if he thought that he should be out patroling, making sure no one showed up unexpectedly while they were all partying.

He had a firewhiskey in hand and was waiting for Harry and Hermione to show up. It just figured that while he was waiting, Malfoy would show up. Probably waiting for Harry himself, so the two of them could go off and do things that Ron really didn't want to think about.

"Malfoy," Ron said, inclining his head in greeting. He supposed he had to at least try to play nice with Malfoy, for Harry's sake. Whatever was going on with them was weird, but Ron would always support Harry no matter what. Even if it meant supporting him fucking Malfoy. He pushed that thought away because he really didn't want those mental images. "And yes, for the moment I'm here solo."

"I see." Draco shifted awkwardly, bot all all sure what he was supposed to say to Qealsey without Potter around. Couldn't even talk Quiddich, with no league left.

"So. Good party?" He meant it to be a statement, but it came out as a question anyway. Damn, apparently he was completely unable to talk to Weasley if insults were off the table. He'd have to try harder.

"I'm mildly impressed at the music they've managed yl salvage."

Ron would have mocked Malfoy for the awkwardness if he wasn't feeling it too. His first instinct was always to insult the other man, but that wouldn't work now that he and Harry were dating or whatever. At least, not without Malfoy making the first step in that direction. Ron was a mature adult, and sadly he needed to act like it.

"I guess. It's a party anyway. Music, food. The cake's a high point." Ron was looking forward to that later. "And you can't go wrong with firewhiskey." He eyed Draco, smirked a little. "Well, juice for you, right?" Maybe a little mocking wasn't out of place. It would certainly feel more natural than whatever this was. "I guess we shouldn't be surprised with a Wierd Sister in the castle. It'd be more weird if he hadn't found music."

"We can't have the Weasley tolerance," Draco drawled, though he was indeed drinking juice. The last thing was to be drunk with this many other people around.

"But I suppose the cake will be nice." Ugh, this was horrible.

"Okay, look Weasley, we obviously have nothing to say to each other, but we both care about Harry and want to try to get along for him. Right? So let's just acknowledge how strange this so we talk like human beings and not bizarre small talk zombies. I got my fill of that at the manor parties my mother used to throw."

"Not many people do, outside Weasleys," Ron agreed. Harry kept up impressively well, and while Hermione didn't drink a lot, her tolerance was acceptable. "Yeah. Cake is always nice."

Malfoy's outburst surprised Ron into laughter, but it did wonders to ease the weirdness. "Thank Merlin. I don't know how much longer I could have kept up the small-talk. I suck at it." It was a universally known truth that Ron had zero patience for small-talk in most situations.

"So, we'll try to get along but if I call you a ferrety git once in a while just to keep things normal that's okay?"

"Only as long as I get to call you the Weasle King."

He smiled, genuinely this time, and relaxed a little. Strange what wonders a few insults could achieve.

"Right. No more small talk. Have you made any headway with these clues? I assume Granger figured it all out instantly and you just haven't told us peons yet?

"Sure. I owned that nickname by the end, so I don't mind it," Ron said, with a smirk. That had been an excellent bit of payback, though he'd always been sad that Harry and Hermione hadn't been there to see it. "So you can call me Weasel King all you want."

Ron sighed and shook his head. "No, we haven't figured it out yet. I think the castle is deliberately hiding it from us now because there's no way Harry and Hermione would have made it this difficult to find what we need." He took a sip of his drink.

"At least it gave the key to the vault to Snape, and we have enough brought back from Hogsmeade and Diagon to get a start on research." He paused, made a face. "And it's so weird that I'm excited about research. Mental."

"Duly noted." It felt a little too much like a nickname, and Draco made a note to never use it again. Getting along was one thing, fond nicknames was not in the cards.

"How benevolent of it. I do honestly wonder sometimes what this bloody castles end game is. Maybe it doesn't even have one, beyond filling the halls again. In which case, it would be nice if it gave us a break!" He raised his voice a little at the end, directing his ire at the walls.

"I never thought I'd see the day. Wonders never cease Weasley."

Ron grinned widely at Malfoy's tone. "Come on. You call me Weasel King, I'll call you Ferret Boy. It'll be our little inside joke." Maybe the joke would wear thin quickly, but right now Ron found it hilarious the way Malfoy had seemed to instantly lose interest in the insult once Ron refused to be insulted by it.

"Yeah, it definitely wants to keep us here. We're trying to think of ways to convince the place that we have no intentions of abandoning it." He didn't mention the idea of oaths to Malfoy; if Harry wanted to clue him in on that idea, Ron would leave it up to him. "Hell, we're talking about bringing students here. The castle out to get the idea that this isn't temporary sooner or later."

He grinned, not offended by the comment because he'd had a similar thought himself. "I know. I'm just full of surprises these days."

"Inside jokes with a Weasley. My ancestors would turn in their graves." But he smiled anyway, because it was kind of funny. The two of them, nicknames, this whole situation read like some bizarre novel.

"I hope so. I just wish we knew how many people it planned to bring here." He looked around the room. "It already feels pretty crowded."

He snorted softly, and shook his head.

"Well, color me impressed, I suppose." His tone turned a little more serious. "We're all going to have to do things we're not comfortable with, in the name of this new society or whatever we are."

"Forget my ancestors, my father would turn over in...well, he wouldn't understand this at all." As always the idea that his parents, his siblings, his children were all dead shook him. The idea that everyone he'd ever known, except for the people in this castle, was dead shook him. It was unfathomable if he really stopped to think about it, so he didn't. "But, it doesn't make sense to be enemies. We need to work together, all of us, if we're going to survive."

Ron nodded. "I wish we knew that and if the castle has a plan or any criteria for who it brings back. No offense, but it brought your dad here after he's already killed who knows how many people. At least it seems to have brought Greyback before he was psycho wolf." He followed Draco's gaze around the room, not surprised not to see Lucius here. Somehow, it didn't seem like his scene. Not enough torture, probably. "Eventually we'll have to expand back into Hogsmeade, but I don't think London is a good idea or any large town. With all the CCTV and Muggle technology...I wish we knew what other countries were doing." They would have had to have made some changes, wouldn't they?

"You're only half as terrible as I thought you were, so I guess I'm impressed as well," Ron said, but with a grin to show he was (mostly) teasing. "It's a brand new world Malfoy. Literally."

"I don't think we've really been enemies in a while," Draco said, serious for the moment. "We both know what a real enemy looks like. So, as much as it pains me, I apologize for the things I did to you in school. I was stupid back then, and didn't understand, well, much of anything."

Draco didn't really understand it either. Of all the people, and of all the times, his father as he was about to step into his cell in Azkaban made the least amount of sense.

"No offense taken. I know what he did. What we did. I don't expect anyone to forgive that." He played absently with his glass. "The castle is large. We won't have to make that decision for a while yet. Well, I say we. You, Potter, and Granger won't have to make thet decision for a while yet."

Draco raised an eyebrow, accepting the half compliment in the spirit he assumed it was intended.

"So it would seem Weasley. So it would seem."

"Nah. Hard to hate you after you didn't give us up." There were times when Ron wouldn't mind hexing Malfoy, but that was just for old time's sake and it would just be a little hex. "We were all stupid back then. We weren't innocent either, and we all made mistakes. Maybe if we'd tried to be a little more open-minded, things would have gone differently."

Ron supposed it was a testament to just how much Malfoy had changed if he was willing to admit what a dick his father was. That took balls. "It'd be different if he acted like he had any remorse, but he's really just sulking because we all know what a pathetic loser he is, isn't he?" Ron should maybe feel bad about talking about Malfoy's father this way, but he didn't.

"You mean Harry and Hermione won't have to make that decision for a while yet. We both know I'm just the good-looking muscle of the group," Ron said, good-naturedly. He was okay with his role in the group, and he'd back whatever play Harry and Hermione came up with. Not that he wouldn't add his thoughts or suggestions, but they were the leaders.

"Speaking of those two, here they come. I guess Hermione finally got free from Sirius trying to get her to dance," he said, a fond smile as he spotted Hermione get distracted again, this time by Remus. Harry was heading their way too. "I'll go get myself a drink, and talk to you later, ok?" Without waiting for an answer, and with a wave to Harry, Ron took himself off. He didn't need to watch the two of them make googly eyes at each other after all.
