RP: Party!
Who: Everyone!
When: 8pm onward, 13 March
Where: The Room of Requirement
What:PARTY!

The Room of Requirement has been set-up for a lively party. There's food (and cake!) thanks to the House-elves, and a surprisingly generous assortment of alcohol. Kirley has rigged up a music system to play a variety of music (heavy on the Weird Sisters obviously, but the RoR had a bunch of albums that had been left by various students throughout the ages so there's an eclectic mix). A dance space has been cleared, and there are little sitting areas arranged for more private moments--lots of cushions and pillows strewn about to make little nests, some squashy armchairs, etc. It's very clearly been sourced from all over the castle, and from items that had been left by students/faculty/professors through decades so the styles are all over the place. Kirley says it's not the Bubble Palace, but it's the best he could do on short notice.

Theodore had hoped the party would be large loud and busy and it didnt disappoint. He passed through the crowd heading to get himself a drink first, before finding a place off to the side of the dance floor. Parties were not typically his thing, but it was socially acceptable drinking and that was enough reason. It wasnt healthy to be alone too much, even if at times it was easy.

He thought the music was good, but it was bound to be given the host of the event. He didnt know many of the songs, a few only here and there. But he did like the warm flush of heat the alcohol in his drink afforded him and the feeling of the pulsing rhythm of the music coarsing through his body.

In all the commotion he hasn't noticed Regulus first, not until he had spoke. Theodore naturally knew who Regulus Black was, but it was pleasant to finally put a face to the name. "Not all that new, but with some room for improvement," he said with a small smile. "Far less drastic a change for myself as for you I would imagine," he said glancing at the people who had gathered to dance. "The future seems to be very animated."

"I suppose it's hard to be new when there are so many old timers creating it," Regulus answered with a smile. It'd be pretty impossible for them to forget their prejudices no matter what they were saying.

"I don't know that any of us are feeling it when we are surrounded by people who come from our times and no one else to show us differently. The big test will come when we start dealing with the international community," he said thinking about it. "They have decades of new spells and changing norms that we'll need to adapt to."

Regulus chuckled. "We are living in a bubble, aren't we? I don't know if it's animated or we know that if we don't find some good, we'll go crazy."

Theo returned the smile in kind. It was comforting to fall easily into the sort of social decorum he was used to. "Perhaps I've an old soul" he said simply. "Its a relief to know that some tradition might prevail."

Theodore could imagine there may be many obstacles to be overcome on the political stage. How would they be recieved other wizarding nations, with open arms? Or at arms length? "That is true, but I think getting past possible rejection and who even knows? Abject fear might first be more of a concern." He mused aloud.

Taking a few small sips of his drink, Theo laughed in turn. "For now maybe its best to just hope the bubble doesn't burst. Everything is so calm and running smoothly. There are bound to be a few hiccups along the way."

Regulus had an interest in traditions but he also knew how difficult it would be. "I feel like some traditions were lost before the world ended. Now we have to see how many we can incorporate with a changing world." He looked at the dance floor. "I wouldn't mind some old fashioned dance and not jumping around like drunken baboons."

He snorted. "Oh, I'm sure they will fear and hate us at the same time. We've had two wars and the end of the world in the span of eighty years. That has to be some kind of record even for us." He looked at the people in the room. "Some of the names here might not inspire confidence."

He wondered what it would take to burst. "I think it's fine as long as we're stuck here, us against the world. When things change, I fear that the old prejudices will creep up."

"There is always room for tradition, or melding the old that works with something new and shiny, like a big bow," Theo said making a small face. "I can only hope some things persist. Like moving to rhythm rather than thrashing about," he laughed wryly. "Although there is room for all that too, its entertaining from the sidelines."

Theodore finished his glass and crouched down on his haunches, passing his glass to a passing elf and kindly requesting another. "Only if they are smart," he said playfully as he stood once more. "I dont envy whomever the spokesperson or persons tasked with that job is. I'd much rather occupy myself with more satisfying pursuits. But we all have our niches."

Theodore could guess where Regulus' mind was headed. In truth his worries were much the same but to a lesser degree, he assumed. But close nonetheless. "Too much freedom not earned makes people soft and pliant and easy to mold and manipulate. I worry what will happen if the wrong sort arrive. From a time when all reason has not been lost and madness is concealed with charm," he admitted. "Although," he said as he reached for the fresh glass the elf returned with, "I am a cynical by nature."

"I would agree with you. Some others will not. They tend to be loud, self-righteous and annoying. They tend to be sorted in a certain house with bright red and gold colours," he said, chuckling. "The Slytherins have always been the quiet ones, even in their colours, but we can be persistent and show everyone the importance of certain traditions."

Regulus took a sip of his juice, pondering what it would be like once the country would be allowed to reach out. "So Potter?" he said with a chuckle. "Last Ministry and all that rubbish. What is that you do? Or did, before coming here?"

He nodded. "There is that," Regulus said "There are practical problems. We have no jails, no Dementors. Do we simply kill them and solve the problem? What if they escape before we find them? I can't imagine someone like my cousin would remain on the grounds to wait for an explanation." He laughed. "Mr. Nott, you're dealing with a generation who grew up always assuming the worst. You're in good company."

He laughed slightly, giving a slight nod in good humor. "We can certainly try. Although we are outnumbered here."

Taking a sip from his glass, Theodore nodded. It was not a job he would ever entertain for a fleeting moment. "Let Potter have it," he said with a small grin. "He's more inclined toward that sort of thing." He couldn't help but be curious about Regulus. He had heard some things from third hand sources, but nothing really concrete. What would someone who had a real second chance want here? "I work with the Ministry in the Department of Mysteries," he said with pride. "Could be useful, maybe not. I do have a lot of ground I can cover in these circumstances with my research. But what about you? Have you any thoughts as to what you want to do?"

There were innumerable problems, Theodore thought. Any number of things could happen, even aside from arrivals. Time travel of the magnitude was a feat never done before. And as possibly messy as it could be, he couldn't help but be fascinated by the prospects. "To good company then," he said raising his glass.

"We're also persistent. Gryffindors, they forgot whatever they planned an hour after they make that plan," he said. "Look at Potter. His daily assignments are more daily if I remember."

He chuckled. "I don't think any of us is inclined to take it from him. He can put his face and do the work and we can make the decisions that matter." He smiled at the revelation. "I wanted to work there, but a Black needed something more prestigious." He'd never liked that decision, but it ended up not making a difference. "If I may, stop wasting time with going back and start looking at all the spells we will need, and we need plenty." He shrugged. "Right now, I'm enjoying my research. I think it's important that we create a record of the people who died. After that- We'll see what jobs there will be."

Regulus raised his glass. "To good company and second chances." He didn't know what this world would bring them, but they were certainly preparing for something completely knew.

Theo couldn't help but to be at least a little happy for having come to the party tonight. He hadn't thought he'd find someone else here who's thoughts on how things should be, greatly paired with his own. There was something to be said for preservation that others should not be so quick to forget. "Oh I know. I'm waiting for the next scavenger hunt with bated breath."

Theodore could only imagine, while also from a notably pure blooded family, he was not a Black. He imagined there was little to no choice in that family, just obligation. "No shortage of spells and resources of all kinds. I do think keeping a record is prudent. It is what can be captured of our legacy. I do sincerely hope you find what you wish here, and sincerely I am glad to have made your acquaintance."

"I'll drink to that," he said meeting his glass with Regulus's with a soft clink.

"And this is why I suggested that we bring everything to the castle and catalogue. Any more scavenger hunt can be done inside the castle, with properly labeled contents." He and Remus might just never leave the fourth floor. "Feel free to come and see us if you want a place to research in peace. No one comes to the research floor."

He smiled at Theo. It was strange to find someone so eloquent and with such good manners in the newer generations. "Thank you. Your wishes are appreciated and I hope the same for you. The pleasure is mine. It's truly good to see that some things lived on in future generations."

"Cheers."
