To Sleep... To Sleep... [tag: Hypnos]
A long, long time ago. Ancient times.
Rarely was there a job Iris considered refusing, bur Hera didn't generally send her to seek an Underworlder. That was unless her employer had very specific things she needed from said Underworlder. Which, it seemed, applied this time. The Messenger didn't dislike Hypnos. She really didn't have an opinion on most Underworlders, however, she didn't like the required journey to have audience with him.
Hypnos was, to be blunt, a homebody and one that took his duties perhaps a little too seriously. She couldn't very well summon him to audience in the middle of the day in Athens, let alone Olympus. He wasn't the type to appreciate that, nor was it proper to ask him to meet her somewhere when she was asking a boon from him. No, decorum stated that she come to him.
Drat.
Iris detached her rainbow as soon as she was within sight of her destination out of courtesy, but left her gilded wings and bright chiton as they were. It never occurred to her to not do so. Iris was as she was and Sleep could take her or leave her that way and she wouldn't care less. She was a strong, proud, beautiful titaness and she would carry herself as such with her chin lifted and her wings extended.
Suddenly she found herself surrounded in dark and silence. So much so that it was becoming more and more alarming by the moment. However, Hera bade her this task and she would do as requested: she would give Hypnos word of what Hera asked of him -to give dreams to Alcyone of Ceyx drowned.
Why this was such an important task that couldn't be managed face to face, Iris hadn't a clue. Sometimes Hera worked in mysterious ways. Usually devious and sometimes altogether questionable ways, but mysterious all the same.
She looked around as best she could, but this was not an environment suited for finding someone. It was an environment suited for sleep.
