He really had no idea how she’d react, and that concept alone was enough to remind him that he ought to try and just have Nancy over to chat instead of trying to get into her pants the entire time. This seemed like something he should’ve been able to predict, but he just didn’t know. It wasn’t like he’d slept with the woman, after all. He was just trying to make her feel better, since obviously nobody else was, and she seemed to have really appreciated the gesture.
How his girlfriend would feel about him escorting a pregnant woman he barely knew to her first ultrasound remained to be seen. Wilbur didn’t think it was all that awkward – they’d already discussed, in a roundabout way, just letting things go their natural course – but he was worried that Nancy might get the wrong idea.
He was also worried she might insist he cancel on Jesse, and he was pretty sure it’d break the poor girls heart a little bit. Wilbur wasn’t especially fond of the idea, but at the end of the day, Nancy was more important. Being socialable with women was complicated.
Tonight was just pizza. He’d tried to cook Mac & Cheese and managed to burn it horribly, and cereal was only appropriate for dinner if he was by himself, so delivery would arrive shortly after Nancy did. When she finally did arrive, he forgot his worries for a short while, picking his petite girlfriend up by her middle and giving her an obnoxiously sloppy smooch that she couldn’t escape from.
“Hey, darlin’,” he drawled, dropping her off on the couch, “How’d yer day go?”
They were seeing more of each other, and he liked it, but the thought of a new job with hours that weren’t so opposite hers had taken root.
