To say Dorcas was worried about Sirius would be a horrific understatement of the facts. The facts, as they now stood, were that something was seriously wrong. She had noticed it first when she'd caught a glimpse of him speaking with his father -- teenaged father, her mind helpfully supplied -- over the journals, his tone lacking the usual brightness she had come to associate with him. Later when he'd written her to request they spend the rest of the night drinking, listening to records, and forgetting that the rest of the world existed, she felt justified in her concerns. Sirius was not so different from herself. Perhaps that was why she sought him out so often these days, preferring the warm presence of his company to the stark emptiness that was her home without him. Though he had a few years on her now, they still seemed to cope quite similarly with the stresses that this bloody place put on them. Turn away, take a drink and then a breath, before possibly trying to sort through it. Dorcas herself was still trying to cope with Peter's betrayal and Marlene's death, but she did it by putting up a front until she could unwind behind closed doors. More and more often she took Sirius with her when she did.
So, if Sirius needed a night to pretend whatever he'd learned didn't exist, she could give that to him. She knew all too well how it felt for your world to come crashing down around you, making the suffocating feeling that most people referred to as the future weigh even heavier on your shoulders. She wanted to know what he'd learned, of course. As much as she detested learning about the horrible things the future held, this was Sirius and where he was concerned she would bear it if it kept them on the same page. Mostly though, she just wanted him to be okay. Right now the only way she could do that was by holding up her end of their plans. After work Dorcas came directly home, cleaning her cabinets of all her booze and relocating the bottles to her counter top for easy access. She changed out of her theater uniform following that, twisting her long dark hair up into a messy bun and pulling on a pair of shorts that were, perhaps, a bit too short and a thinly strapped tank top. Shrugging on a flannel as she left her room, she padded barefoot back to the kitchen to mix some disgustingly strong drinks for herself and Sirius before moving over to her record player to pick her first selection. Honestly, Back In Black sounded like a good idea at the moment, but perhaps she should dig some Billy Joel out for Sirius. Nursing her drink, she peered down at the record in her hand, going over the track listing and keeping an ear out for Sirius.
