Crossing the Divide
Who: Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy
What: A late-night meeting after this
Where: Cottage # 15
When: Late-night forward-dated to Sunday, 18 November possibly into wee hours of Monday, 19 November.
This was probably a Very. Bad. Idea. The last thing Draco needed in his life was to deal with Severus's mess. It wasn't news to Severus that he had no idea how to be anything approaching a 'father figure' to anyone. Though he'd repeatedly said that Draco was the nearest thing he'd ever know to a son - and meant it most sincerely - he never meant it to imply that he thought Draco should or did view him in that light.
His own issues were far too fucked up to make him even a tolerable friend, let alone anything more meaningful.
But there was no way he was going to pass up any opportunity to try to make amends. No, not make amends. He'd hurt Draco too deeply and received his share of wounds as well. Perhaps they were both expecting something unreasonable from the other; perhaps they were both seeing what they wanted to see rather than what was. Perhaps this was an opportunity to try to start healing what they'd broken in a more realistic, honest way. He knew Draco would never trust him as he had done, might not ever care for him as much as he had before, but it meant so MUCH to him that he was willing to even suggest that they ought to speak.
And so he'd stripped out of his pyjamas and pulled on one of his old brewing robes and Apparated directly to Draco's doorstep. Anxiety had his palms sweating and his heart racing and his stomach clenched to the point of nausea. He was determined that he would chew his tongue bloody before he would say a word to hurt this young man any worse than he already had done.
With a deep, shuddery breath, he rapped smartly on the door.
