WHO: Regina Black and Kirley Dukehope
WHEN: Tuesday, late morning
WHERE: Compound Courtyard two
WHAT: Reg interrogates Duke.
WARNINGS: TBD

Duke was up to something, and Regina knew it. He had to be. There was no logical reason for him to be so secretive with her. She had to find out what he was plotting.

The memory she had chosen that morning was of her sixth birthday party, her favorite party. It had been princess themed, and her mother and father had really pulled out all the stops. She got a beautiful tiara and a pretty party dress, and everything was perfect. She lived the memory through her mother's eyes, and though Reg no longer believed what her parents did in regards to blood purity and societal hierarchies, it was nice to relive some of the happier moments when her family was all together. She did still love her parents, after all.

Living that memory had put her in a great mood, much better than the day before, so as soon as Duke let it slip where he was, she headed out of her room to find him, stopping first in the block common room to grab a banana on her way out. She needed some sort of breakfast after all.

First she went to the courtyard by the pool and gym, but couldn't see him anywhere. There were a few people flying around on broomsticks, and she was really tempted to join them, but figuring Duke out was a bit more important at the time.

So she headed to the second courtyard and spotted him quickly, sitting under a tree off in the corner.

Walking over to him, she sat herself down next to him and poked him in the side. "You are in trouble, mister," she said with a grin. "Keeping secrets. Very rude."

Duke honestly wished she would stop asking because it wasn't him being mean, it was actually him trying to help her. And he wanted to keep that secret but she seemed hell bent on finding out what it was.

The memory for today hadn't been a good one. He lived it from his own perspective, albeit a different him, to see Amie when she was younger. But she wasn't too young when things were bad and he was furious at Kirley for being the dick of a father he was. If he ever came back, Duke wouldn't hesitate to hit him, despite his Hufflepuffness.

Tomorrow, at least, he was going to see something happy with her.

"Maybe you should learn to mind your own business," he grinned over at her once she was sitting down. "But before you try to get those answers out of me, how about I tell you some other stuff for a minute? Or you can choose the order, I guess."

Reg stuck her tongue out at Duke quickly and then began opening her banana. "I always mind my own business," she said with a shrug. "But Your unwillingness to tell just makes me want to know more. You're doing this to yourself, you know."

After opening her banana, she tucked a bit of hair behind her ear and looked over at Duke. "You can tell me whatever you want to tell me, in whatever order you wish."

"Not on purpose," he grumbled, making a face at the banana because it was something healthy. Honestly, Duke was surprised he wasn't dead yet from not eating the best stuff and constantly drinking. Well, not constantly. But most days. Anyway, he just didn't like fruit or vegetables and never had.

"Fine, fine." Letting out a breath, he shifted to get more comfortable for a few seconds. "Well, there's a girl that was saying something about not getting a good snog in awhile, and I hate when anyone isn't happy and it's something I can fix, so I offered to take her out for fun, though I'm really trying not to do that anymore. But Marek doesn't care. He's not the jealous type and neither am I and we're not really together or anything. It kind of sucks. But when I told him that possessiveness can be sexy, he said he'd take it under consideration. So, hum. Maybe that will change." Duke could only hope.

He wasn't sure exactly what he wanted with Marek yet. He liked him and they had fun together, but did that require being just with him? Duke had a lot of thinking to do, that was for sure.

"Ahh...as for you, m'dear, I'm trying to find you a man."

Reg gave him a wink at the face he made at her banana and took a generous bite. She liked junk food, of course, but she'd always liked fruit as well, and it was quick and easy to eat when she didn't feel like going to the cafeteria for actual food.

"There are lots of girls around here that haven't had a good snog in awhile," she said with an eye roll, then pointed to her face. "Case in point, my friend. I think you were the last person I snogged. Unless something happened at the party in Slytherin the night before the flip. I don't think anything happened, but it all got a little fuzzy, so I can't be sure."

She shrugged then. "But if he says he's not the jealous type, then I don't think you have any reason not to believe him. I mean, I was the one hurt when I found out you were shagging both of us, not the other way around. Do you want it to change? If you do... you need to tell him. And not take out anyone just because they say they're unhappy with not being snogged. Snogging is nice, but not a requirement for survival."

When he told her what he was up to, Reg grinned, a bit of pink creeping up into her cheeks. "Oh really?" she asked. "Why?"

"I know, I know," he sighed, reached over and ruffled her hair. The compound definitely didn't seem equal in the number of men and women, or unrelated men and women, or maybe when it came to sexuality. Duke didn't know the exact problem, but he couldn't really fix it either way. "You and your alcohol," he added with a shake of his head. He pretended to look disappointed.

There was a pause before he answered. "I don't know what I want. As long as he's around, I guess I don't really care, but maybe I do want to really be with him...which is something he's not into." So it made perfect sense. Duke always liked the ones that were harder to get, or even impossible.

"Because I'm not letting you become an old maid," Duke laughed, throwing his head back.

"Don't you start about alcohol," she said, elbowing his side. "You're the one that took advantage or poor, drunk, me in Greece. Even if I was a willing participant..." She grinned then.

She took another bite of her banana and pulled her legs up to her chest as he spoke, nodding, then grinning. "A ha," she said. "Look who's on the other side now. Wanting something you can't have. Sounds very familiar. I wonder why."

Reg smiled then, and got a bit more serious. "Just because you want him, doesn't mean that you should have him. If it gets to the point where you truly only want him, and he's not okay with that, then you need to let him go. You're never going to be happy if you're settling for not being the only one when you really want to be. Trust me. I know these things."

Rolling her eyes, she finished off her food and tossed the skin off to the side to throw away later. "I am not an old maid," she said. "Though if you'd have asked my mother before I came here she would adamantly disagree with you. Finding me a match was going slowly, and she was very worried."

"Any takers so far?" she asked then. She couldn't help but be curious, after all.

"Exactly. There was no advantage-taking." And Duke drank more than almost anyone else, something he was starting to consider - was it a problem? Did he need to do it less? Would that fix anything? Was there anything to even fix?

"Ha ha," Duke rolled his eyes with the sarcastic, pronounced laugh. "I always get myself into that situation. First it was Tau, now him. It's a terrible addiction." He let out a sigh as he listened to the rest, knowing it was true. "That doesn't work well for me. If there's something, someone, I want then I'm not going to stop trying. It may not be the best, but hey, at least I'm not a quitter."

Giving a genuine laugh, Duke reached over and draped his arm around her shoulders, giving a shrug. "Just taking preventative measures. One Harry Potter said he'd take you dancing, but he thinks of you as family because your sister is his uncle in another world or something. Doesn't sound like it counts to me, and then there's another bloke who I haven't talked to much. Mostly I just got girls wondering the same thing." That was even more hilarious to him, but he kept that to himself.

"I get being persistent, I do. But there comes a time when you have to give up, or it'll drive you crazy. Knowing you can't have something and still going after it is not healthy," Reg said. It wasn't like she was trying to discourage Duke from what he thought would make him happy, but she didn't want to see him keep going after something he would never get and eventually would make him miserable. He was her friend, even if they'd taken a strange route to get there, and she cared about him.

"Well that's what happens when you leave a journal open to the entire Compound. You really should learn to ward, you know."

Leaning over into his arm, she laid her head against his chest. "I am not related to Harry Potter," she said. "First of all, he's a girl in my world. Secondly, I died before he was even born. It doesn't count. But I do like dancing. Who's the other bloke you were talking, to, do you know? Which Harry was it? I've not spoken to all of them, but I've spoken to most."
