RP: Dinner!
Who: Susan, Dean, Eddie, Ernie, Hannah, Justin, Megan, Rolf, Rose and Seamus.

Where: Susan's flat

When: Friday 5th September, 7pm

Rating: SFW

To say that Susan had had an interesting day was perhaps one of the greatest understatements since 'Hey, if we point sticks at one another our magic is scarier!' Her day had been equal parts annoying, awesome, and confusing, and the prospect of having her friends around for dinner had been one of the things that had kept her powering through her sleep deprived state. The brandy and wine at Rose's had helped too. Still, she had just enough time after seeing Rose to rush to the supermarket and buy panic buy enough products to feed a Quidditch match.

Two hours later: her kitchen smelled amazing, and she'd managed enough just enough downtime to slip into a cute little dress. She was just vaguely wondering where all the people were when the doorbell rang, and the first of her guests arrived.

Rose’s eyes went wide when Susan cut right to the chase. “Dammit,” she cursed under her breath, before she returned the kiss and disappeared into Susan’s hug. “I tried sobering up, even took a cold shower!” she murmured against the older witch’s shoulder. “And you look so hot tonight. You’re really not making it easy, you know?”

Keeping a tight hold on Susan’s hand, Rose followed her into the living room, where she was about to greet each of them with a kiss to the cheek before she realised that that was definitely too familiar, and instead send them a smile. “Not all the time,” she tried defending herself, “but I do remember Seamus.”

Looking to Susan, she shook her head vigorously, almost instantly regretting that and found her calm again by focusing on Susan’s eyes. “Noooo hair,” she said, once again swallowing down a giggle. “Some water would be lovely, thank you, love.”

When Susan returned, Seamus had to press his lips together to keep him from asking 'Eddie?' He wasn't about to share Susan's personal life with Rose unless Susan indicated it was okay. Still, he couldn't help but raise his eyebrows a little at Dean. Because yes, Eddie was hot (gods, so hot) but... weren't he and Susan friends?

"I know everyone," Seamus assured both women with a wink. "Come sit down, Rose. Dean and I are making ourselves at home." Also, Seamus had been on his feet all day and they were starting to hurt.

He glanced up at Rose, trying to decide if he knew her well enough to tease. Probably not, but hair of the dog would certainly explain why Susan had been spilling details of her love life at them so casually. "How was your day? Any new adventures to tell us?"

“Thank you, handsome,” Rose gushed, thrilled for the offer and very pleased to get off her feet – boots made her legs and ass look amazing but she was beginning to think that maybe she should have gone for something with lower heels. “I told Susan to do the same this afternoon and-“ Rose cut herself off, looking from Seamus to Dean and back again, figuring that they probably didn’t know about Eddie or the drinking that had followed and that that wasn’t her place to share. “-we talked. She talked-we talked. There was a lot of talking.” Oh sweet Helga, if she could just get her mouth to stop babbling and where was Susan with her water. “And that was my day.”

She sent a beaming smile across to Dean, before she nodded. Talking about work wouldn’t be so bad, at least she wasn’t prone to blather out personal information. “Well, I did just come back from Peru, and I don’t think I’ve gotten all the mud washed out yet, but that’s not important, how are you two doing?”

Dean had very much joined Seamus in a raising of eyebrows at Susan's revelations about Eddie. This was definitely a question that deserved raising, and soon. Preferably while Susan was feeling drunk and talkative.

He smiled at Rose. He didn't know Rose all that well, but he'd served her a time or two in the pub and his gut instinct was to like her. Her description of the afternoon though, that was amusing. "Hi, Rose," he said quietly. "Am I right in guessing there was also drinking with the talking?"

"That sounds like me and paint, but sadly it's a bit of a more regular problem," he said, flashing her a smile when she mentioned difficulty removing mud. "And I'm okay thanks, busy day, it's nice to sit down."

Susan walked over to the sofa, a jug of water and two plates of hors d'œvres floating in front of her. With a flick of her wand she brought a side table over and placed one plate and the water in front of Dean, Seamus, and Rose, and then walked over and placed the other in front of Ernie, Frank, and Rolf - talking to them for several minutes.

When she returned she noticed the slightly awkward silence hanging over their heads like a bad smell. "For Helga's sake," she said with an eye roll. "Seamus, Dean, Rose knows I slept with Eddie. Rose, the boys found out kind of because I am still quite a bit drunk."

"Now," she said, settling down in an arm chair and munching on a fig. "What's this about paint?"

Seamus, as usual, had forgotten to eat so he reached for the food immediately, washing it down with a mouthful of beer before looking at Susan seriously. "You slept with Eddie." He was still trying to wrap his mind around it. "But you and Eddie are friends..." What had changed?

He realised he wasn't being the most sensitive, here, but his experience with relationship talk was pretty limited. Ginny had a boyfriend and Ron was still with Hermione, but most of his friends were single. He looked at Dean, a wordless plea for help.

"Dean gets paint everywhere," he explained without really thinking about it. It was less important than their other topic of conversation.

Looking at Dean, Rose shook her head, almost regretfully, then held up two fingers, barely half an inch apart. “Little bit,” she admitted, “a little țuică, some red wine, and… more țuică.” She really hadn’t meant for it to go like that, but there was no way she could possibly plausibly deny it, not when Dean had called her so accurately on it. That concern, however, was quickly pushed to the back of her mind when Dean revealed something about himself that not only did Rose not know, but it also intrigued her greatly. “You paint?” she burst out with a bright grin. “Oh, I never got the hang of using a brush, so I’m sticking to pencils and quills.”

And just as she felt dangerously close to another blather attack, dear, sweet, blessedly gorgeous Susan appeared and saved her. Rose breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that Seamus and Dean already knew, and quickly poured herself a glass of water.

“When he paints,” she oh so helpfully concluded Seamus’ statement about Dean, then looked to Seamus, though her eyes went back and forth between them as she continued, because maybe they could help out here. “But yes, yes, she was being Susan and Eddie was being Eddie and that’s why we had the țuică and the red wine and the țuică and he’s still being Eddie-“ Rose cut herself off and looked up at Susan. “Shouldn’t Eddie be here tonight?”

"Thanks, Seamus that's a wonderful way of explaining it," he said dryly. He turned to Rose and smiled. "Yes, when I'm not serving drinks in the pub I'm a professional artist. I have a bit of a tendency to get paint all over the place. Including myself. I cleaned up for tonight, but mostly I end up with some somewhere most of the time," he said, finishing rather sheepishly.

"But back to the topic at hand. Our lovely hostess over here slept with the admittedly rather attractive Eddie, and now possibly has feelings for him, hmm?" he said, looking at Susan and raising his eyebrows pointedly.

Susan tilted her head and sent Rose a significant look. "You haven't lived until you've wandered into Dean's studio to find him butt naked and covered in paint, industriously making," she paused and pointed to her favourite piece of artwork in the house. "That lovely painting over there."

She felt herself begin to blush, but lifted her chin defiantly. "I wouldn't say I have feelings for him," she lied blandly. "But he did look at me at one point and it... Well it reminded me of when I was nineteen before all the bad stuff went down and it's left me very confused." She smiled sardonically, absently pouring herself a glass of water. "I never let anyone I'm screwing make me feel things, that's what I have you lovely people for. I feel things about all of you because doing so is nice and safe."

Seamus wasn't entirely conscious of the way his face relaxed into an expression of relief. Obviously mixing friendship and sex and feelings was a recipe for disaster. Any two out of the three could work together, but all three was always going to cause trouble as far as Seamus could tell. Susan might be confused, but at least she was still sensible.

"Maybe you're just getting over it?" he suggested, not realising until it was too late that his words weren't the most delicate. "Maybe it was just coincidence that it was Eddie." That would be good, wouldn't it? If Susan had managed to get back to a place where she wasn't so wary?

Rose quirked an eyebrow, highly impressed by the painting Susan had just pointed out and turned to let Dean know just that, only to find him with his head in his hands. “It’s amazing,” she told him, gently patting his knee in an attempt to comfort him. “And I’m a Cursebreaker, so when I’m out on a mission, all depending on the climate and the weather I usually have either mud or dust everywhere. Not just the easy to reach places either.

Dean, however, wasn’t the only one looking uncomfortable; Susan had him easily beat there, though for some reason Seamus look almost relieved. Without thinking, Rose shifted a little and let her fingers thread through Susan’s as she nodded; Seamus’ take on things actually made sense to her, and she had already heard this uncomfortable part about feelings from Susan. “You felt things for Eddie before too,” she reminded her. “He was your friend as well.” Maybe this wasn’t nearly as bad as she had first thought, at least not from the Susan angle. The Eddie angle, however, had the potential of being very uncomfortable, if for no other reason than him and Susan being something was a risk of him being distracted whenever away from her, and Rose didn’t like that aspect one bit at all.

Dean had muttered almost soundlessly in mortification when Susan had announced she'd found him painting naked and dropped his head into his hands. It meant he hadn't seen Rose's knee pat coming and he jumped slightly, head rising. He realised she was meaning to comfort him though and he gave a little quirk of a smile. "Thanks. I feel like I should point out it was only because it was an insanely hot day and spells on or too near paintings not under stasis charms are a monumentally bad idea," he said, trying not to look too embarrassed.

"Anyway, er, back where everyone has their clothes on... or, er not, as the case may be," he said, glancing apologetically at Susan. He took a deep breath and ploughed on. "Pushing through that bit, I think they have a point. And also, you know you're allowed to be happy, it's not that you've forgotten, but sometimes the hurt can fade and that's okay." He was looking at Susan, but it was reminding himself any the others too. It was a very hard lesson to learn.

Susan, who had dissolved into a poorly hidden fit of mirth from the moment Rose had tried to comfort Dean, broke into proper peals of laughter. "There's nothing to be ashamed of, handsome," she chortled as she finally brought herself under control. "You have an extremely nice bum. Right up there with Seamus', Justin's, and even Rose has a lovely pert backside." She tilted her head quizzically for a moment, then grimaced, "Of course what you make of the fact that I've seen the arse of every person at this party is entirely up to you."

Susan felt knot forming in her throat as she reached over and took Dean's hand. "Thank you, Dean. You're a star. I'll try and remember that I'm allowed to be happy, although Merlin knows what I'll do without any drama. You all know how I thrive on it."

Seamus slipped his arm around Dean's shoulders, as if he could protect him from embarrassment somehow. Though Susan was right, he really had nothing to be ashamed of. And they both knew Seamus had been caught in far worse circumstances. "Not everyone, unless there's more going on between you and Rolf than I knew about."

Seamus looked between Susan and Dean, teeth digging into his lower lip for a moment. "Do you think Eddie can make you happy?" he asked seriously. It still seemed fraught with danger to him, and he didn't want Susan to walk in blind. To lighten the mood - because maybe this was a conversation Susan should have sober - he added, "As for drama, you'll just have to make do with ours for a while."

Rose bit her lip hard and sent Dean a smile of apology for startling him like that. She would definitely keep that in mind the next time she saw him: Dean was skittish. Of course, that look of apology gave way to one of not really understanding. “Why?” she asked him. “Why’d you need to explain that? It’s not like I’d cast an Impertubable on myself when working on a Curse even if it was during the Monsoon.” Besides, if she had the chance and opportunity to paint naked anywhere, she would take it without hesitation.

“Without knowing all that much about these fine gentlemen,” Rose continued Seamus’ addition, “I’m sure we can create enough drama to last you for at least a ye-we-uhm... day. Maybe two.” She looked up at Susan. Yes, they had been hitting the țuică pretty hard, but that didn’t mean that what Susan had said hadn’t seeped in along with the alcohol. The difference was, that now it had had time to settle in. So could Eddie make her happy? Rose didn’t doubt that Eddie could make just about anybody very happy if he put his mind to it, it was what happened when whoever he was making happy was out of sight. Then again, maybe Susan was the one who could hold his attention longer than the average length of a mission.

Susan went tense as Rose reached over and touched Dean, but felt herself relax when he merely looked up. Progress she thought to herself, rather proudly in all truth. "Exactly Dean, it's nothing to be embarrassed about. If your ditzy friends don't bother to knock on a thirty-degree day than they deserve the sight of your bum, really."

She rolled her eyes and patted Rose on the arm. "Thank you, Rosie. I greatly appreciate that. You know how my people feed off the drama." She watched the cogs whir behind Rose's face, and almost felt bad for Eddie, because she was growing increasingly certain that he and Rose would have words. Scary words. Words backed up with wands. "Anyway, let's have a change of topic. I'm thinking of changing the colours in here, what do you lot think?"

Dean opened and closed his mouth a few times as he almost leaped to defend himself some more, but he couldn't quite make himself say the words, and instead he deflated with a sigh. "Oh, never mind," he muttered. He honestly wasn't shy about his body, just had trust issues and didn't want to give the impression he ran around naked all the time.

He decided he was also going to skip on the rest of the Eddie discussion. He wasn't good at relationships to start with and the added friendship element had him way out of his depth.

"Depends on how much you want to change," he said, latching onto the new topic. "You don't want to clash with the art, or anything, but the furniture is already fairly neutral."

Seamus could feel Dean's tension in the set of his shoulders, but there wasn't an awful lot he could do about it except keep his arm around his mate - and not let the conversation linger.

"Talk to Dominic," was the only advice Seamus had on the interior of Susan's flat. "Once you know what you want, he can help. Maybe before you know what you want." He looked around the room, though he knew his own eye for colours and design was basically non-existant. His own flat was a mishmash of things from the old pub, gifts and new generic items of furniture. "Or you could paint the walls white and let Dean do murals."

Susan groaned and looked at Dean. "I am going to shut up about your arse now, okay Dean?" She took a long drink of water and grimaced. "Drinking fățată țuică with Rose will always make my mouth run off. So please, accept my apology handsome. Everyone here knows that you don't actually habitually walk around naked."

"I think I will talk to Dominic" she agreed after a moment's thought. "I'm thinking of changing the green out there," she said, pointing over her shoulder to the reception room and stairs, to either a sort of light, dusty blue, and change the colour in here to a really pale, washed out honey colour?"

She grinned, glad that the conversation had moved away from dangerous and embarrassing waters. "Can I get a drink for anyone?"

Rose opened her mouth to let Dean know when it came to naked bums, she was convinced that he had nothing to be ashamed of, though opted instead for a long drink of her water when it occurred to her, that maybe that wouldn’t be the best comment for someone who most of all looked like someone wishing the cushions would swallow him up.

“Dominic’s amazing,” she smiled, because Dominic helping out Susan with the redecorating of her home was probably one of the best ideas she had heard today. Except she hadn’t meant to be this obvious about it, and once again stopped herself by drinking her water, this time finishing off what she had left, and could have wept with joy when Susan returned to perfect hostess mode.

“Water, please, thank you,” she smirked. “For the love of all things Hufflepuff, let’s get some more water here. Maybe you could go a little bolder than ‘really pale, washed out’.”

Susan snorted at Rose. "My house isn't that bad," she said, slightly defensively. "I just want to change the neutral in here to something warmer, and Slytherin green out there to something more palatable." She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "But you're right. Dominic is amazing."

Susan laughed as she walked out of the sitting room and into the kitchen, grabbing several jugs for water and ice. "Maybe if we drown ourselves in it, we'll sober up?" She called out, as she re-entered the room.
