Go Go Appleby!
Who: Seamus, Susan & Dean
What: Listening to the Quidditch
Where: Seamus's flat
When: Saturday afternoon
Rating: Bad language.

After a surprisingly busy lunch shift, Seamus raced up to his flat to make sure everything was ready for Susan and Dean. Despite how little time he seemed to spend there, it always managed to get messy. He had a bad habit of dropping wet towels wherever he happened to be when he decided he was dry, and his socks and shoes rarely made it to the bedroom. A few of his mam's best tidying charms, though, and everything was clean and presentable - not that Susan would have cared, and Dean certainly wouldn't have done.

A wave of his wand tuned the wireless to the right station, pre-match coverage had already started so all Seamus had to do now was wait. There was some of Dean's lasagne left for dinner, still under it's chilling and preserving charms until it was needed and there was (as usual) a wide variety of juices and mildly alcoholic beverages. He kicked off his shoes in the kitchen, somewhat ruining all his hard work, and mixed himself a Virgin Mary.

Dean gave Susan a raised eyebrow about Susan's sudden free time. "Oh? No work today?" He knew she often at least dropped in at work even when she hadn't got a full day on a Saturday.

He made a face about the conversation with the chef, it was really getting to the point Seamus needed to replace him. "You would think he couldn't get much worse, but clearly you would be wrong," he said, curling an arm around Seamus and briefly resting his head on Susan's.

He sipped his drink idly and caught the commentator's run down of a vicious bludger hit and winced, rubbing up and down Seamus' side absently. "Glad I'm not on the end of that one," he said with feeling.

"Thank you, dear," Susan said, taking her drink gladly and having a long sip. "My but that is very good! You're an excellent drink mixer Seamus, it's almost like you should open your own bar! I'd even be willing to invest, again" she said, her voice absolutely deadpan.

She looked at Dean and shook her head in wonder. "Well that's the thing innit, I went into work but all my paperwork for the deposition tomorrow had been filed by one of the new clerks, so I went to the shops and it was quiet, so I went home and had basically the entire day to myself!"

"I'm sorry charming, but I think it may be time to actually face facts: the man is at the very least a impertinent dickhead if he reacts to being asked to lift his game by dropping his game. You don't have to put up with someone like that!"

Susan winced and gasped. "Goodness, I hope poor Davies will be okay. The bats are playing viciously, I hope they-" she paused to listen as the Arrows' beater scattered the Bat's chasers, allowing an apparently irritated Flint to score a goal." She clapped and kissed Dean on the forehead. "That's more like it. Now, tell me all about this apparently divine jewellery that the French lass of yours makes."

Seamus rolled his eyes at Susan. "Almost," he agreed. "Maybe this time I'd let you." He did not want to open another pub, one was more than enough work.

"Is this one of the benefits of being promoted?" he asked Susan, grinning. "People do all your work for you, because that would be great. You'd deserve it." More time off would be no bad thing, for any of them. Despite the fact Susan was the only Hufflepuff among them, they all worked hard. Too hard, sometimes.

He winced. He knew the chef was almost certainly going to have to go, it would only damage Finnigan's if he stayed, but that didn't make the actual conversation informing him of that fact a more pleasant thought. "I thought he was really trying," Seamus admitted. "The mistakes he made were easy enough to understand but now..." His shoulders slumped and he let himself lean into Dean's hand against his side. "You think I can convince Hannah to give up Healing and come work for me?" He looked up at Dean. "Or you?"

Really, the last thing he wanted was a conversation about jewellery, but Seamus kept his mouth shut. He didn't even correct Susan's 'of yours'. Instead, he munched on the celery from his drink, hoping they'd get it over with sooner or later - or that the Arrows would do something exciting.

"I'm with Seamus, someone to take away the boring work is brilliant. You totally deserve it, just to get a bit of extra free time," he kissed the top of Susan's head. All of them worked hard of course, but her work was usually far more fraught with danger than his or Seamus'.

Dean sighed, not that he hadn't thought of offering to help out with food given how terrible the chef was, but he didn't want to get caught there. Not that he thought Seamus would make him, but it wasn't his passion. "I think we both love our jobs too much, I mean if you get rid of him and can't find anyone I might be able to do you some soup you can stick on and serve up yourself, but only until you find someone." He really didn't want Seamus to be left in the lurch, but he needed to do his own job really.

"Don't be daft, Susie, she's not mine," he protested, his skin feeling warm, eternally thankful he didn't blush. "The jewellery really is pretty though. It's mostly matt porcelain, decorated in tiny flowers. it comes in all sorts of colours and there's a bit of everything. She makes vases and plates and things too, but mostly the jewellery. I've not seen much yet, but she brought some things with her, and she had a load for the kiln the other day. Getting it there is a as bad as moving a painting without stabilising it!"

Susan smiles rosily at their praise. It was always nice to have your hard work and dedication recognised professionally, but it always felt nicer from your friends. "Thank you boys! It's entirely possible I may occasionally have a full weekend to myself, which I'm more than happy to share with my friends."

She nodded emphatically, sympathising with Dean's startled look. "Hannah and Dean would make excellent food, but I don't think they'd be the best fit in terms of the whole already having jobs thing." She grinned across at him, knowing full well that he was internally dreading having to fire the cook. "If he does leave you in the lurch, I'm sure like handsome says, we could organise some sort of potluck situation where we give you enough meals to tide you over. Hades, I'd even fire the bastard for you if you wanted me to."

She patted Dean's arm effeminately, "You know what I mean, I don't mean she's yours just that you've talked about her," she said, patting his arm effeminately, before getting caught up in his description of the rings. "Those sound absolutely beautiful, I'd love to meet her and discuss commissioning some!" She was being quite sincere about wanting to get her hands on some of the jewellery, but Seamus' mutinous expression as they talked was a thing of absolute beauty. He couldn't have failed to notice the way Dean lit up at the barest mention of her, and if she couldn't be honest and open about her desire to get the two idiots beside her together, well she wasn't so averse to being a bit sneaky.

"A full weekend," Seamus breathed, his tone purposefully wistful. "I remember those." Nowadays, he mostly took Sundays as his only full day off and even then he was in the pub for Battlescars every week and the Business Bureau four out of five. He hadn't taken more than a few days off at a time since he opened. He wasn't really complaining, though. He'd known what he was getting himself in to.

He reach up with one hand to pat comfortingly in the vague direction of Dean's cheek. "Stop panicking, gorgeous. I was kidding. You know I wouldn't really ask you..." This petname think was coming to him a little too easily, but Seamus endeavoured to look cool about it. He turned his attention to Susan, shaking his head. "I can do it, if it comes down to that." He was a man, and a Gryffindor, and it was his job. "I'm sure I'll find someone else. Though if you know of any cooks looking for work..."

Seamus was about to give in to a grumpy sigh, to make it quite clear he had no interest in this topic of conversation, when Appleby scored again. His cheer was a touch exaggerated, given he didn't even support them, but would hopefully serve of enough as a distraction. "Dominic is going to be so grumpy if you win," he said, pointing at Susan.

Dean opened his mouth to say he'd make Seamus take a holiday, but then he realised he didn't exactly have a leg to stand on, holiday wise. The last thing he'd done that resembled a holiday was actually a painting trip for a couple of days in Cornwall. "And now I remember that I apparently don't take holidays, the lot of us are clearly mad."

When Seamus called him gorgeous he was thankfully not taking a sip of his drink, or he might have ended up coughing it up for one reason or another. Instead he swallowed hard and nodded, "Yeah, that'll work," he said, sounding slightly odd.

Rallying he nodded at Susan. "Sure, I'll let her know," he said, his words mostly lost in Seamus' enthusiastic cheering. He'd apparently taken against Ophelia without ever having met her, which was a pity since she was perfectly lovely.

"Yes, weekends," Susan said with a smile, "You remember those right? In fact next weekend I should invite you both 'round to my place, make a dinner party of it. What do you say?" Susan smiled, suddenly very taken with the idea of having people over to help fill out her ridiculously oversized house.

She laughed, amused at Seamus' lack of subtly, at least in the confines of trying to win The Bet. "Gorgeous is it? I'll have to remember that one, it's a great nickname for you Dean." Her smile turned thoughtful as she considered various people who might fit the bill. "Let me ask around," she told Seamus seriously. "I may know some people who would kill for a chance to work here."

She rolled her eyes and turned to give Dean a full compliment of Meaningful Eye Contact at Seamus' overzealous display of enthusiasm. "Ophelia sounds lovely, handsome. You two sound like you'll get on great." For a moment, she almost felt bad for the woman, but soothed her conscience with the reminder that she would buy a large amount of her jewellery.

She was about to say something else when the commentator suddenly began squealing with excitement as Appleby's seeker suddenly dived. A few seconds later, the match was over, and Appleby had won. "Well," she said, grinning like a maniac, "Shall we eat?"

"Sort of." Seamus frowned, mentally scanning both his and Dean's schedules for the upcoming week. He had both of them memorised, even before they were affixed to the notice board in the staff room. "We could do Friday. At least, neither of us is working Friday evening." He glanced up at Dean again, assuming that if his friend had plans he'd already know about then. "You're not busy, are you?"

If he flushed slightly at Susan's questioning, it could easily be put down to how warm his flat was with the three of the squashed on his sofa like this, or to the spice in his drink - which he took a large gulp of instead of making any reply. "Will your brother be at this dinner party?" He liked Edgar well enough, but this habit of his friends' siblings developing crushes on him was both disconcerting and a little frustrating. He'd really rather people his own age were developing crushes on him, but of course he had no such luck.

Seamus cheered again when Appleby's seeker caught the snitch, this time genuinely caught up in the excitement. "Congratulations, Susan," he said, making a little bow with his upper body. "But don't think this means you're going to beat Kenmare to the finals." He got up with only a minimum of reluctance. "Would you like a celebratory drink?"

Scrubbing a hand over his face Dean tried to remember if he'd agreed to do anything else on Friday. Clearly he wasn't working, Seamus would know that. "Not that I know of. We still need to take Jess and Cat out at some point though, or I'll start getting phone calls when I go to the pool." Dean had a mobile phone that his family could leave messages on for him to pick up when he was out of magical interference, which mostly happened when he went swimming.

He could tell that Susan was trying to communicate something really important or significant to him, but he couldn't interpret her look, so he brushed it off. If she wanted to say something she could. It might lose her the bet if his guess was right, but she could say something.

His mind's eye helpfully conjured the image of the rapidly diving seeker for him and gave a little whoop as the announcer relayed his success. "Excellent, that goes nicely with West Ham winning too! And yes. Food, please. Brilliant though it was that brownie only filled a small corner!"

"Excellent," she crowed, "I'll invite a few other people around too." She shook her head slightly at Dean's mention of his mobile cellphone, and then grinned at the thought of Jess and Cat. "I haven't seen Jess and Cat in forever! Why not bring them around too?"

She rolled her eyes at Seamus' rather transparent question. "I'm sure I can convince Edgar and his girlfriend to come over yeah. Why's that, charming? You're still not fanning your ego on the fact that he used to have a crush on you are you?" She winked wickedly at him, vastly amused at the propensity of the siblings of Seamus' friends to develop crushes on him. She looked at Dean and shook her head, patting him on the knee.

"Oh West Ham won as well?" she asked, high fiving Dean. "I think we all know Appleby will kill it in the finals, and to confirm that, why don't we get handsome here a drink and eat some lasagne!"
