Go Go Appleby!
Who: Seamus, Susan & Dean
What: Listening to the Quidditch
Where: Seamus's flat
When: Saturday afternoon
Rating: Bad language.

After a surprisingly busy lunch shift, Seamus raced up to his flat to make sure everything was ready for Susan and Dean. Despite how little time he seemed to spend there, it always managed to get messy. He had a bad habit of dropping wet towels wherever he happened to be when he decided he was dry, and his socks and shoes rarely made it to the bedroom. A few of his mam's best tidying charms, though, and everything was clean and presentable - not that Susan would have cared, and Dean certainly wouldn't have done.

A wave of his wand tuned the wireless to the right station, pre-match coverage had already started so all Seamus had to do now was wait. There was some of Dean's lasagne left for dinner, still under it's chilling and preserving charms until it was needed and there was (as usual) a wide variety of juices and mildly alcoholic beverages. He kicked off his shoes in the kitchen, somewhat ruining all his hard work, and mixed himself a Virgin Mary.

Susan was, in a spectacularly surprising and deeply suspicious turn of events, not late in getting to Seamus'. She'd gone into the office to properly file some paperwork, only to discover that it had already been filed. Then she'd stopped off at the Muggle supermarket near her home to do her weekly shopping, and had managed to do it all without any incident. She went home to a house that was already clean thanks to her housekeeper, and at a loss at what to do, had a two hour bath, read, and made brownies so chocolatey that they were illegal in twenty-four countries.

Thus it was a supremely relaxed but also suspicious Susan who knocked on the door to the flat. "Hi Charming," she said, leaning forward to kiss him on both cheeks, before depositing the plate of brownies in his hands, and slapping him in the rear almost absentmindedly.

Seamus frowned slightly at the knock. He'd expected Dean to arrive first, being slightly better than Susan at getting places on time - but Dean would never knock. "Susie," he greeted, kissing her back and then looking down at the brownies with delight. "What would I do without you?" He was starving. There had been so many complaints about the food at lunch, and dishes sent back, that he'd been rushed off his feet apologising and hadn't had time to actually eat anything.

He collapsed onto his sofa and greedily picked up the topmost brownie, biting into it with many exaggerated noises of pleasure. "Match hasn't even started yet. You want a drink?"

Susan smiled as Seamus' look of confusion turned to delight at the sight of her brownies. She'd picked up on a definite increase in the number of plates being sent back the previous night, and thought it was rather likely that Seamus wouldn't have actually have eaten that day. She tilted her head and considered his question seriously for a moment, then grinned. "You'd probably be thinner, worry less, and more bored?"

She grinned triumphantly as he launched into his first brownie with a noise not unlike a that made by a Lethifold upon coming across a lonely traveller at night. "I would absolutely love something with gin in it, Charming, thanks," she looked around curiously as she snuggled down next to him. "No Dean yet?"

"You calling me fat?" Seamus asked with a huff, pulling Susan into his arms once he'd finished the brownie in record time. He knew he was going to have to get up in a moment to make her a drink, but he never turned down affection from those close to him. "Because if you are, take it up with Dean and Hannah. And yourself."

He hauled himself to his feet and reviewed the ingredients in his fridge, wondering if he ought to be worried that he had more drinks than food by quite a margin. He didn't drink that much, most of the time, but it was so easy to order extra bottles of this or that from his pub suppliers and so difficult to have food in stock without it going off. "How about a jam jar?" he asked, he'd only just learned how to make them but according to Dominic they were delicious. "And no, no Dean yet." The roar of the crowd from the wireless indicated that the match was starting and Seamus grinned. "Shall we go demand his presence immediately?"

"I would never call you fat darling," Susan said with absolute focused conviction, before smiling easily as he drew her into his arms. "You are my dearest companion, and even if you were fat, which you very obviously are not," she said, poking him in his obviously taut stomach, "It wouldn't matter to me in the slightest."

She leaned to one side obligingly to let Seamus get up, snorting slightly at the sight of his refrigerator filled with alcoholic beverages. "A jam jar sounds lovely," she replied enthusiastically. "Not that I know what a jam jar is beyond a jar used for the storage of jam, you understand." She frowned delicately at Dean's lateness. "I hope he's alright," she mused as the crowed roared over the wireless. "I think demanding his presence is a very intelligent idea!"

Dean hadn't had a good night. He'd slept for a while only to wake from a poorly remembered nightmare and be unable to shrug it off and sleep again. He'd tried for a while but given up in the end and spent the next few hours making sesame chicken to last the week, and some lemon sugar cookies to take with him for the quidditch get together later.

Then of course he'd poked his to-do list and got some stray laundry done, only to start gulping down far too much coffee and heading for his studio. He remembered to take the cookies with him so he could go straight over to Seamus' but got caught up painting a portrait of a friend of Braith's who had agreed to sit for him a few weeks ago and lost all track of the time. The only thing he paused for was coffee, and grabbing more paint. His music played, and sometimes he hummed or sang along, but mostly he just painted.

Seamus and Susan apparated together, arriving at Dean's studio mere seconds apart. Seamus hadn't even bothered to put on shoes, which was probably a mistake given the amount of paint on the floor of Dean's studio. "Told you he'd be here," Seamus said as soon as he spotted Dean. He hadn't actually needed to tell Susan. They both knew that Dean being late meant a Dean distracted by his work, especially at that time of day.

"Seems like he loves us less than," Seamus said loudly, walking up to Dean's shoulder and peering at the canvass. "Than this charming woman," he finished, not recognising the subject of the piece. He made puppy dog eyes at Dean, pouting out his lower lip. "Did you forget about us?"

Susan rolled her eyes, and delicately stepped over a smear of what she rather detachedly thought could pass for blood. "Of course he's here," she retorted with a smirk. "Time is an illusion, doubly so when Dean is painting."

"What are we going to do with you Handsome," she asked with mock exasperation by way of greeting, coming up to peer over Dean's other shoulder. "My she is a, uh," she groped around blindly for an inoffensive adjective. "Yeah, let's go with charming."

She patted Dean's shoulder gently and mirrored Seamus' expression. "You totally forgot us, didn't you?"

Dean was blessed with some thankfully chatty friends given his jumpiness about being approached. When first Seamus and then Susan approached his shoulders he stifled his initial flinch and rolled his eyes. He looked at the clock on his wall and winced. "Sorry."

"I didn't forget you, not as such, I just... got in the zone or whatever." He looked critically at the portrait and gave a pleased nod. "I made quite a bit of progress too. And she's a lovely lady. Friend of Braith's, tells fantastically dirty jokes." He set his palette aside and whipped out his wand to put the necessary stasis charm on his work.

Then he turned around and gave a slightly chagrined smile. "At least I'm predictable."

"Twenty seconds and I can grab the cookies and go." He started automatically preparing to leave by banishing his cleaning jar to the sink and protecting the palette from drying out before doing a quick visual inspection for anything he'd forgotten.

"Don't need to apologise to me, handsome," Seamus said. He'd decided early (before lunch, when there'd still been time in his day to think) that adopting Susan's nickname for two weeks was just one of the many ways they could try to drive her into losing their dare. "But if we get back and Appleby have scored you may have to grovel to Susan."

Even though he could still taste the sweet chocolate of the brownie on his tongue, Seamus visibly perked up. "Cookies?" He looked around and spotted them, heading over to pick them up - and resisting the urge to stuff one into his mouth. "Anything weird in them?" They didn't look like there was anything weird in them, no green flecks of basil or thyme or rosemary. Still, it was good to be sure.

Susan tilted her head at the boys' continued 'mock' flirting. She was about to say something scathing when she had a sudden flash of insight, and felt the beginnings of an idea take hold in her mind. Smiling like the cat that got the golden snidget. She nodded imperiously in response to Dean's bow. "You can grovel by telling me how things are going with that charming Frenchwoman of yours," she replied sweetly, before smiling at Dean. "He is very handsome, it's true."

She laughed a silver little laugh at Seamus has his eyes glazed over at the thought of her brownies. "You two can knock yourself out - not literally, I didn't accidentally put any sleeping potion in this batch like someone once did, Dean - as long as you save me one." She felt her own stomach grumble appreciatively. "I am looking forward to that Lasagne, and I'm looking forward to the game."

With a last, enigmatic smile at them, she disapparated back to Seamus' flat and settled herself on the sofa, just as Davies scored Appleby their first goal.

"Yes, yes, I'm gorgeous, get over it," Dean said, waving them away with a roll of his eyes. Now that he'd realised he hadn't had food it was becoming a slightly more pressing issue.

Dean's smile shifted as he bit his lip at the mention of Ophelia. "Oh, she's, you know, nice." He was hesitating, slightly embarrassed that he'd clearly given away that he had something of a crush while he was drunk. "She's settled in a bit better now, I helped her get some things into the kiln the other day, I think you'll like her jewellery." He smiled softly, remembering the way Ophelia kept tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and forgetting the English words for things.

"That was only once, and I keep my potions well away from the kitchen now," he muttered petulantly at Susan's reminder. As she apparated away he rolled his eyes and shook his head at Seamus. "Go on, I'll be along in a sec."

Only a minute or so later, after checking the wards on both his own studio and the building as a whole, Dean apparated after the other two.

The look Seamus shot Susan when she mentioned Dean's new studio companion was intended to be merely exasperated. Dean had mentioned her all of one time, it wasn't as if... But then he caught the way Dean bit his lip, the way he smiled, and Seamus's eyes narrowed. He hadn't been Dean's friend since they were eleven without learning to recognise that look. It was the way he'd looked in sixth year whenever anyone brought up Ginny Weasley. Seamus's expression went fiercer and he glared at Susan. Only because the way she was right all the time was bloody annoying.

Once she'd gone, he rubbed his free hand across his face and nodded at Dean. "We're going to totally win that bet," he informed him, now more determined than ever. "Today." The 'crack' of his apparition was slightly louder than normal.

Back in his own flat, he set the lemon cookies down on the table and grabbed for another brownie. Dean had said 'as soon as possible' after all. Once he appeared, Seamus offered it to him. He contemplated feeding it to him but with his luck that would be more messy than affectionate and just make Susan laugh at them. Once Dean's fingers had closed around the treat, Seamus smiled. "Save me a seat, handsome. I'm going to make Susan her drink. You want anything?"

Dean blinked at Seamus' sudden declaration and departure. He stared for a second at the empty space where Seamus had been, convinced that the apparition was louder than usual, but shaking it off and working the wards before following.

He was a little surprised that Seamus was waiting for him, and couldn't help but smile, especially when he presented him with delicious smelling brownie. "'Course I will." He shrugged, trying to work out what would go with both brownie and lasagne. "Yeah, surprise me. No alcohol for me though," he added, his party had included more than enough for a while.

He bit into the brownie he'd been presented with and groaned with pleasure. "Merlin on a fluffy cloud, that's good. Susan, you're brilliant," he said with feeling, and made his way over to sit on the sofa with her, leaving a gap for Seamus to fill.

Susan smiled prettily as she watched Seamus put the cookies down and grab a brownie, no doubt to feed Dean in a horrendous display of affection purely for her sake - not that she hadn't come across them feeding one another before. Surprisingly, he merely handed the browny over and instructed Dean to sit down while he made Susan her drink. "Can you put an umbrella in mine, Seamus. I feel like being utterly-" she froze as the bats scored a goal. "No you bastards," she groaned, before giving Seamus her most devastating puppy dog eyes. "Can I have an umbrella Seamus my love?"

Obligingly, Susan moved to one side as Dean bit down into his brownie, almost levitating from pleasure as he moved over and snuggled in next to her. "You're welcome, darling. I had a lot of extra time today, so I decided to make my boys something nice."

Resting her head on Dean's shoulders, she looked over at Seamus. "So how was your day dear, the cook still causing you trouble?"

Seamus, already making Susan another cocktail, threw a cherry at her. "I didn't know he had a girlfriend now!" He tugged his t-shirt down and focused on mixing the lemon juice and the jam. He hadn't been 'fanning his ego', but it had been nice to think someone fancied him, even if that someone was ridiculously inappropriate. Maybe he should make time for another trip to one of London's gay bars, not that he'd ever had much success there. Still, he might get a dance and a snog out of it - and Ernie still hadn't come up with any likely candidates for more.

These thoughts kept him quiet as he finished off Susan's drink, poured another Virgin Mary for Dean and her more alcoholic sister for himself. He set them out on counter separating the 'kitchen' from the 'living room' and promptly presented the heated up lasagne to go with them. "I could get some garlic bread from the pub," he offered, then scowled. "Unless chef's burned it or contaminated it with mint or something."

"Don't see why they can't come if it's a Friday. They might have plans, what with Jess forever at goodbye parties these days, but I can ask." He shrugged, having no actual idea of what his sisters were up to.

He frowned at Seamus' apparent change in mood, not sure what had set him off. Rolling back through the conversation he couldn't pinpoint it, so he just got up and joined him, nudging him with a friendly hip canted sideways and a gave him a hopeful smile.

"Thanks," he said, taking his drink and crunching on the celery from the first one.

"Yeah, they won one-nil, had an early kick-off. I checked earlier, before my brain got lost in paint fumes apparently!" He knew his mind had a tendency to get caught in painting mode and blew it off as a joke.

He looked a the dish of lasagne. While it would feed all three of them Dean was feeling pretty hungry. "Might be a good idea, I mean, unless it's gone to crap."

Susan dived and caught the cherry neatly in her mouth. Getting up, she did a little victory dance and then flopped back on the couch. "Yeah, her name's Eva, she's one of the Dyer girls. Really nice girl actually kind of grounds Ed a little bit.

"Why on earth is she going to goodbye parties," she asked, puzzled. "Tell them I'll set them up with some fit Auror lads if they come," she added, sticking her tongue out at Dean.

Susan almost felt bad for Dean and Seamus. Almost. But if she'd learnt one lesson in her life it was that sometimes you just had to help people, even if they didn't want to be helped. To that end, she blithely ignored the tension in the room, nodding absently at Dean's self deprecating joke.

"I think some garlic bread would definitely help fill us out yeah?" she said, brightly moving over to hug the two men. "And Seamus, if he's done something to the food, tell him that he can have a forty minute head start before I come for him."

Seamus's sudden onset of self-pity lifted a little as Dean came over to check on him. He might not have a love life, but he had great friends. He returned the smile and added a little gesture meant to convey that he was fine.

"You know fit auror lads and you haven't set me up with them?" Seamus asked Susan, but his teasing fell just a little flat, despite Dean's comforting presence. Time for a change in topic. He was done thinking about his state of perpetual sexual frustration for today.

He wrapped his arms around the both of them in a group hug and then wriggled away to head downstairs for additional supplies. He was gone for nearly fifteen minutes and when he returned it was without garlic bread. "We ran out," he growled. "So in his infinite wisdom, he decided to just stop serving pasta for the day. I had to put more in the oven myself! Fucking garlic bread, it's not like it's difficult or he didn't have time."

Dean couldn't help but applaud Susan's catching skills, at least briefly. "Jess is off to uni, and all her friends keep having different goodbye parties because they're going to different places. I'm pretty sure it's mostly an excuse for more parties, but she's having fun. No setting them up with Aurors though! Cat is fifteen, fifteen, Susan. Jess, I will concede is eighteen and can make her own decisions even if I don't agree with them all, but she's about to move to York."

"See, set him up, not my siblings," he said, pointing sharply at Seamus.

As Seamus pulled away from the group hug Dean disengaged too and went to grab the plates, warming them with a charm.

"Oh, for fuck's sake!" Dean said. "At this rate I'm going to hex him. It's a fucking business, it's not like it takes three hours to make and you have to end it for the day, I know he has the bread pre-made the adding garlic bit isn't exactly hard." Dean threw his hands in the air in exasperation. "Please tell me you sacked him, or at least yelled at him?"

Seamus shifted to nudge Dean with his shoulder. "She hates me," he said, his tone an exaggerated whine. "But I don't blame you for it handsome, don't worry." He nodded. "Susan's right. She's far worse than I am." He did try not to distract Dean from his work - unless it was necessary. Sometimes Dean forgot that eating and sleeping actually mattered and then Seamus had to take matters into his own hands.

Seamus sent the finished plates of lasagne away to wait in his sink, amused by how well they worked together without any of them needing to say anything. "We all put up with each other," he said, as if that decided things. "Even when we're being grumpy, or ruining perfectly good strawberries with vinegar, or being annoyingly good at winning bets." This last he said with a look at Susan who had still - somehow - managed to hold her tongue about the two of them!

"Come on, Susie. We all know you've got a Gryffindor side." He waited until she'd tried the cookie, then reached for one of his own. "Mm. Lemon and chocolate. You both spoil me." The cookie was as good as it looked and he gave Dean a wide grin. "Perfect."

"Strawberries and balsamic vinegar are a totally valid food combination. I didn't make it up myself!" Dean protested. Admittedly they were a less common combination, but he'd quite liked them. Seamus rather less so. Dean joined Seamus at giving Susan a pointed look, her ability to hold her tongue was annoyingly good.

"Would the two of you not look so bloody terrified I did something to them. I told you they were perfectly normal cookies and I don't screw it up that often." He grumpily took a huge bite and made exaggerated mmmm noises. He was somewhat placated when they both said they liked the cookies, but still he crossed his arms and looked grumpy anyway.

Susan snorted and shook her head. "At least when I come and bother Dean it's to bully him into letting me buy one of his pieces, not because I'm begging cuddles."

"I will admit, that the strawberries and balsamic where actually pretty nice. Unusual, yes, but nice nonetheless," she said, a victorious grin blooming across her face at her friends' mutinous expressions. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she said with a vast amount of dignity. "You both told me that a facet of my behaviour was distressing to you and I endeavoured to change it to be more pleasing to you both."

Susan grinned at Seamus, well to be completely honest the term 'grinned' rather significantly tarted up what she did with her mouth. A more accurate phrase , she thought, would have been that she bared her teeth at him. Regardless, she leant forward conspiratorially. "The hat nearly put me in Gryffindor you know?" she said at last. "If Hannah hadn't been sorted into 'Puff then I probably wouldn't have hesitated when it asked me where it should place me." She grinned, taking another bite of her cookie - pleased that her inane comment had suitably distracted Dean from his mood.

Seamus did his best to look affronted - which was tricky, as he'd just stuffed his mouth with lemon cookie. "Oi!" he objected after he'd swallowed. "I don't have to beg. Well, hardly ever." Dean was very obliging with his hugs, often providing them unprompted when Seamus most needed them.

He rolled his eyes at Susan's defence of the unholy strawberries and balsamic combination, but then Seamus didn't like vinegar at the best of times so maybe that one was down to him. "Your behaviour has been distressing to us for the past five years," Seamus pointed out. "It's not as if we've been keeping it secret. You never changed before." Nor did he believe Susan wouldn't go back to her old ways as soon as the two weeks were up.

Seamus shifted stool to be closer to Dean and looked up at him with big, adoring eyes. "Forgive me," he begged. "You know I could never live without delicious treats. I'd waste away to nothing and then what would mam say?" He grinned, flashing Dean a quick wink before turning his attention back to Susan. "And it nearly put me in Ravenclaw. Good thing it didn't, though. Can you imagine?"

"Sadly he doesn't have to beg, he just stands there and looks pathetic, and I have to hug him before I feel any worse!" Dean teased, but then felt guilty and slung an arm around Seamus in apology.

Dean couldn't help but give a huff of laughter. "I, for one, am very distressed. On a regular basis." Then he snorted and laughed again. He didn't often make a joke of his problems, but once in a while it felt good just to laugh. And then Seamus continued and he couldn't help laughing so more.

"Yeah, apparently I didn't register much as anything else, I think it might have considered Hufflepuff briefly, but very briefly." Dean shrugged. He could definitely imagine Seamus as a Ravenclaw having seen how hard he studied when he needed to. And Susan as a Gryffindor was just as easy to imagine.
