Go Go Appleby!
Who: Seamus, Susan & Dean
What: Listening to the Quidditch
Where: Seamus's flat
When: Saturday afternoon
Rating: Bad language.

After a surprisingly busy lunch shift, Seamus raced up to his flat to make sure everything was ready for Susan and Dean. Despite how little time he seemed to spend there, it always managed to get messy. He had a bad habit of dropping wet towels wherever he happened to be when he decided he was dry, and his socks and shoes rarely made it to the bedroom. A few of his mam's best tidying charms, though, and everything was clean and presentable - not that Susan would have cared, and Dean certainly wouldn't have done.

A wave of his wand tuned the wireless to the right station, pre-match coverage had already started so all Seamus had to do now was wait. There was some of Dean's lasagne left for dinner, still under it's chilling and preserving charms until it was needed and there was (as usual) a wide variety of juices and mildly alcoholic beverages. He kicked off his shoes in the kitchen, somewhat ruining all his hard work, and mixed himself a Virgin Mary.

Dean couldn't help but applaud Susan's catching skills, at least briefly. "Jess is off to uni, and all her friends keep having different goodbye parties because they're going to different places. I'm pretty sure it's mostly an excuse for more parties, but she's having fun. No setting them up with Aurors though! Cat is fifteen, fifteen, Susan. Jess, I will concede is eighteen and can make her own decisions even if I don't agree with them all, but she's about to move to York."

"See, set him up, not my siblings," he said, pointing sharply at Seamus.

As Seamus pulled away from the group hug Dean disengaged too and went to grab the plates, warming them with a charm.

"Oh, for fuck's sake!" Dean said. "At this rate I'm going to hex him. It's a fucking business, it's not like it takes three hours to make and you have to end it for the day, I know he has the bread pre-made the adding garlic bit isn't exactly hard." Dean threw his hands in the air in exasperation. "Please tell me you sacked him, or at least yelled at him?"

Susan bowed floridly. "The lucky girl," she said with a hint of envy. "Surrounded by all those pretty, pretty boys. She'll cut a swathe through them, mark my words. What's she studying at York?"

She narrowed her eyes and looked at Seamus thoughtfully for a moment. "Well there is a couple of lads who would jump at the chance for a snog et cetera with a handsome lad like you, charming. Maybe I should set you up, although you're firmly against anyone below the age of twenty-one aren't you?"

Susan obligingly took the plates and set them on the counter, summoning cutlery with a flick of her wand.

Susan looked at Seamus with a very dangerous glint in her eye. "He's still downstairs is he Seamus dear? I think it might be time to head down and show him my scary face." Pausing, she took off her cardigan as the flowers detracted somewhat from her menace. "I'll be right back."

Seamus caught Susan's wrist before she could charge downstairs. "No." He was going to run this business and while he appreciate Dean and Susan looking out for them, he didn't need either one of them to do this for him. "I shouted at him already. If you go down there now he'll quit and I'll have no one to do Sunday lunch tomorrow and you know what Sunday lunch is like in this place."

He guided her firmly to one of the stools by the counter, kissing her cheek before moving away. "I love you, and thank you, but no." He set the lasagne onto the plates Dean had warmed and then sat down, reaching for Dean's wrist to tug him over as well.

"New topic," he announced with a smile. "I haven't seen Justin in forever. Is he overworking himself again?"

"She's studying Biochemistry of all things, apparently she got the science-type skills that I lack. And please don't mention the boys thing. She's an independent adult and can make up her own mind, but I'd rather not think about it too much." Dean shrugged, he was really proud of Jess, but he wanted to be big-brother protective and it would only get him yelled at.

Dean allowed himself to be led towards a plate of food.

"It's Justin, he probably is. Not that any of us have a lot of room to talk though," he said, pointing around at each of them. "We should probably mount some sort of rescue at some point if he doesn't turn up soon. Unless you've seen him, Susie?"

"Oooh Biochemistry, really? That's exciting," Susan crowed with delight. "That's so exciting!" She tilted her head and gave him and extra special dose of her patented Really? look. "She's a gorgeous young woman, handsome."

Pouting, she allowed herself to be led over to the plate. She sat there fuming for about thirty seconds until the adrenaline left her system, and she looked over at Seamus. "I'm sorry, I just get toweringly angry at people who hurt my friends okay?"

She took a bite of lasagne, chewing thoughtfully. "I saw him about three or four days ago, when he was called in to treat some freed slaves for shock at a joint bust with the Hitwizards and the Aurors, we didn't get a chance to talk much but I think he's been working extra shifts?"

Seamus didn't pay too much attention to the conversation about Jess. He'd heard it all first hand when they all went out to dinner, whenever that would be. Best let Jess have the pleasure of telling him herself exactly what biochemistry was - and just how much smarter it made her than he was.

"I'm not hurt," Seamus pointed out, spreading his arms wide as if to display his lack of physical injuries. "Grumpy, a bit, but that's what you two are here for. And brownies and lemon cookies." He gave them each a considering sort of look, then grinned. "Mostly the brownies and lemon cookies, really."

He bit into his own lasagne - which was only slightly less delicious than when it had been hot and fresh. "Well, at least we know he's alive. Can't we force him to take some time off? I know we're not shining examples but... one day? Or even just an afternoon?" If Seamus had some selfish reasons for wishing Justin got more time off, he didn't think it necessary to mention it.

Dean responded to Susan's look with an I know, I know look of his own. "I don't need the talk, I've already had the talk from her. I'm not interfering, just don't want to think about my little sister and a load of possibly irresponsible men."

He played idly with his lasagne, squirreling out some of the meat from the bottom layer to eat and shoving it in his mouth.

"Sure, sure, he only loves us for the food!" he said, touching his chest in mock pain.

"Don't know about forcing him. I mean we could drag him out but it's undignified. We could organise time to do something together, I guess."

"I wasn't going to give you the talk, handsome, at least not that talk. I was going to give you the talk where I tell you that I know a number of very tall, very frightening Aurors, Hit-Wizards, and Cursebreakers who will happily scare the absolute hell out of any pumped up little knob who even thinks about hurting a hair on her darling head. So if you need anyone to stand behind you, I can hook you up."

Susan took a moment to casually break each individual layer of her lasagne apart, so she could eat the pasta and meat separately.

She mirrored Deans mock anguished expression with one of her own. "He does only love us for our food, Oh handsome!" Her pretend anguish was somewhat ruined by the fact that she was actively struggling not to smile.

She lifted a hand imperiously. "If needs be I'll go to St Mungo's next time I'm injured and invite him out. Either way, he'll be at mine on Friday."

"He's already tall," Seamus pointed out. "Don't give him any more tall. He'll give the poor lads heart attacks." He ate his lasagne the normal way, none of this breaking into layers or eating from the bottom up - honestly, his friends were weird sometimes. "Don't you have anyone like Braith? Sweet looking but with a drop-dead stare? Or you could just take Braith! I'm sure she woudn't mind."

He balled up his napkin and threw it at Dean, rolling his eyes. "So long as I love you, does it really matter why?" he asked, sticking his tongue out at them both. "Besides, if I don't tell you how much I love your food you both get grumpy at me!"

Feeling better already, able to almost forget about the Chef Problem, Seamus leaned back on his stool. "That's good. I'll grab him on Friday and see if he's got time for me in the next few weeks."

"I'm sure that Braith would think I'd lost it. She'd probably do it though. She likes Jess." Dean shrugged and went to eat the rest of his lasagne normally, making little mmm noises at the crispy cheese on the top.

Dean automatically caught the napkin and put it down on the table. "Well, no not so much. I just like hearing it," he said with a grin. It was a half-hearted play at getting Susan to comment, but it really did always make him smile.

He smiled at the plans for Justin, grabbing a sip of his drink. "Well, that's organised his liberation then."

"Heart attacks are good. Very good, especially for men who break young girls hearts," Susan said, with a hint of savagery in her voice as she stabbed viciously at her lasagne. "I do like the idea of Braithe coming along though - she's so lovely, but I bet she could be scary if she wanted to be." Eying Dean's meek return to boring pasta eating with a contemptuous snort, Susan defiantly continued to eat her lasagne her own weird way.

She rolled her eyes at Seamus' obvious attempt to get her to loose The Bet, and merely clapped Dean's excellent catching. "Must we throw napkins at the table, children," she asked archly. "We love you too, by the way."

"I am very good at freeing people from oppressive work schedules," she agreed, taking a long sip of her drink. "It's one of my talents, wouldn't you say?"

Seamus opened his mouth to suggest that Susan was overreacting, then shut it again when she stabbed at her plate. Sometimes it was too easy to forget what she had been through, she hid it away much better than Seamus or Dean. "Braith is terrifying," he said instead, sipping at his drink. "I don't think she likes me."

He honestly hadn't been trying to trip Susan up (that time) but he gave Dean a warm smile nonetheless. "That's why I say it so often," he lied. The truth was that he said it without thinking. It would never occur to him not to say it - even when that got him weird looks from guys he was dating. "And I know you do, Susie. Sure you wouldn't put up with me otherwise."

He nodded, well pleased with their nebulous plan to 'free' Justin from his work. "You try, but we're very stubborn."

"I've told you, Braith likes you just fine. She just thinks you distract me or something. Blatantly not true, but I can't convince her. Sorry," he pouted pathetically at Seamus and gave him his best puppydog eyes.

He was about to mention that the garlic bread might be done, but then he realised that going down to the kitchen again right now might not be the best plan and he held his tongue. Instead he just focussed on eating his lasagne. Finishing quickly he picked up his wand and summoned the desserts.

"I didn't try these, you know, I hope they turned out okay," he said, picking up a lemon cookie. A least they looked okay, not burnt or anything. He bit into it and chewed thoughtfully for a second, then smiled slightly.

Susan rolled her eyes at the pair of them. "Braithe likes me though, which is weird as I probably come and actually legitimately distract you than Mr. Curlyhead, Esq. here." She shrugged delicately, taking a another bite of lasagne. "No accounting for taste I suppose."

She watched Dean and Seamus smile at one another like the lovesick idiots they were, and forcibly shut down her impulse to tell them to shag their brains out. "Put up with you," she asked instead with an airy laugh. "More like you put up with me!" She took a last bite of her lasagne, and summoned more plates for the desserts, casting a cooling charm on them.

"You didn't even try them," Susan asked, quirking an eyebrow, and taking one with carefully hidden trepidation. It wasn't that she didn't love Dean's cooking, it was more his propensity to occasionally add more esoteric elements. She bit into it and then smiled. "They taste fine to me, dear."
