Go Go Appleby!
Who: Seamus, Susan & Dean
What: Listening to the Quidditch
Where: Seamus's flat
When: Saturday afternoon
Rating: Bad language.

After a surprisingly busy lunch shift, Seamus raced up to his flat to make sure everything was ready for Susan and Dean. Despite how little time he seemed to spend there, it always managed to get messy. He had a bad habit of dropping wet towels wherever he happened to be when he decided he was dry, and his socks and shoes rarely made it to the bedroom. A few of his mam's best tidying charms, though, and everything was clean and presentable - not that Susan would have cared, and Dean certainly wouldn't have done.

A wave of his wand tuned the wireless to the right station, pre-match coverage had already started so all Seamus had to do now was wait. There was some of Dean's lasagne left for dinner, still under it's chilling and preserving charms until it was needed and there was (as usual) a wide variety of juices and mildly alcoholic beverages. He kicked off his shoes in the kitchen, somewhat ruining all his hard work, and mixed himself a Virgin Mary.

Seamus shifted to nudge Dean with his shoulder. "She hates me," he said, his tone an exaggerated whine. "But I don't blame you for it handsome, don't worry." He nodded. "Susan's right. She's far worse than I am." He did try not to distract Dean from his work - unless it was necessary. Sometimes Dean forgot that eating and sleeping actually mattered and then Seamus had to take matters into his own hands.

Seamus sent the finished plates of lasagne away to wait in his sink, amused by how well they worked together without any of them needing to say anything. "We all put up with each other," he said, as if that decided things. "Even when we're being grumpy, or ruining perfectly good strawberries with vinegar, or being annoyingly good at winning bets." This last he said with a look at Susan who had still - somehow - managed to hold her tongue about the two of them!

"Come on, Susie. We all know you've got a Gryffindor side." He waited until she'd tried the cookie, then reached for one of his own. "Mm. Lemon and chocolate. You both spoil me." The cookie was as good as it looked and he gave Dean a wide grin. "Perfect."

"Strawberries and balsamic vinegar are a totally valid food combination. I didn't make it up myself!" Dean protested. Admittedly they were a less common combination, but he'd quite liked them. Seamus rather less so. Dean joined Seamus at giving Susan a pointed look, her ability to hold her tongue was annoyingly good.

"Would the two of you not look so bloody terrified I did something to them. I told you they were perfectly normal cookies and I don't screw it up that often." He grumpily took a huge bite and made exaggerated mmmm noises. He was somewhat placated when they both said they liked the cookies, but still he crossed his arms and looked grumpy anyway.

Susan snorted and shook her head. "At least when I come and bother Dean it's to bully him into letting me buy one of his pieces, not because I'm begging cuddles."

"I will admit, that the strawberries and balsamic where actually pretty nice. Unusual, yes, but nice nonetheless," she said, a victorious grin blooming across her face at her friends' mutinous expressions. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she said with a vast amount of dignity. "You both told me that a facet of my behaviour was distressing to you and I endeavoured to change it to be more pleasing to you both."

Susan grinned at Seamus, well to be completely honest the term 'grinned' rather significantly tarted up what she did with her mouth. A more accurate phrase , she thought, would have been that she bared her teeth at him. Regardless, she leant forward conspiratorially. "The hat nearly put me in Gryffindor you know?" she said at last. "If Hannah hadn't been sorted into 'Puff then I probably wouldn't have hesitated when it asked me where it should place me." She grinned, taking another bite of her cookie - pleased that her inane comment had suitably distracted Dean from his mood.

Seamus did his best to look affronted - which was tricky, as he'd just stuffed his mouth with lemon cookie. "Oi!" he objected after he'd swallowed. "I don't have to beg. Well, hardly ever." Dean was very obliging with his hugs, often providing them unprompted when Seamus most needed them.

He rolled his eyes at Susan's defence of the unholy strawberries and balsamic combination, but then Seamus didn't like vinegar at the best of times so maybe that one was down to him. "Your behaviour has been distressing to us for the past five years," Seamus pointed out. "It's not as if we've been keeping it secret. You never changed before." Nor did he believe Susan wouldn't go back to her old ways as soon as the two weeks were up.

Seamus shifted stool to be closer to Dean and looked up at him with big, adoring eyes. "Forgive me," he begged. "You know I could never live without delicious treats. I'd waste away to nothing and then what would mam say?" He grinned, flashing Dean a quick wink before turning his attention back to Susan. "And it nearly put me in Ravenclaw. Good thing it didn't, though. Can you imagine?"

"Sadly he doesn't have to beg, he just stands there and looks pathetic, and I have to hug him before I feel any worse!" Dean teased, but then felt guilty and slung an arm around Seamus in apology.

Dean couldn't help but give a huff of laughter. "I, for one, am very distressed. On a regular basis." Then he snorted and laughed again. He didn't often make a joke of his problems, but once in a while it felt good just to laugh. And then Seamus continued and he couldn't help laughing so more.

"Yeah, apparently I didn't register much as anything else, I think it might have considered Hufflepuff briefly, but very briefly." Dean shrugged. He could definitely imagine Seamus as a Ravenclaw having seen how hard he studied when he needed to. And Susan as a Gryffindor was just as easy to imagine.

Susan rolled her eyes in the manner of someone who was unable to decide whether they were horrifyingly enchanted or enchantedly horrified. "Why is it that I don't get demands for hugs then? You two are obviously hardcore hug dealers and yet where's my sugar?"

Susan gave them her very best serene smile and swore to utterly unnerve them by not returning to her old ways, at least outwardly. To underscore her point, she didn't reply, merely looked. It was a stella look, one that a now retired Auror had taught her as a trainee. It promised the possibility of either great placidity or unspeakable violence, in terrifyingly equal and uncertain measures. "Indeed," she asked at last.

She snorted. "You would have made an excellent Ravenclaw, Seamus. Dean, you basically could be a Hufflepuff now," she said, pausing to eat a brownie. "And yeah I could be a Gryffindor. I think it kind of proves that whatever house we're in, we focus on the traits it supposedly brings out, as opposed to letting us focus on brave Slytherins, and cowardly Gryffindors, and ditzy Ravenclaws, and nasty Hufflepuffs, you know?

Unperturbed by their insults, Seamus used the advantage of Dean's arm around him to snuggle closer. It wasn't easy on the stools and he had to throw his arm out to grip the counter and stop himself tipping backwards, but he managed it. It was purely a show for Susan, but for all that it wasn't exactly a hardship. "You're too scary," Seamus told her. "I know Dean won't hex me."

He considered Susan's point, then shrugged. "Are there nasty Hufflepuffs? It's hard to imagine." The hat had considered him for Hufflepuff too. He always wondered what had eventually tipped the scales for Gryffindor - and whether the hat could possibly have known he would meet Dean there. Could it tell the future, or did it only decide based on a student's personality at the instant of its choice?

Dean rolled his eyes at Susan, clearly he needed to hug her more if she was complaining. But he didn't always want to hug people. Seamus was usually safe though.

He gulped a little bit at the look Susan gave them, which he decided to ignore completely. It seemed safer.

"There have to be, right? I mean the song didn't actually specify they had to be nice at any point. Although most of the ones I know are very nice," he said, tipping his head to Susan. Would he have been a different person as a Hufflepuff. Maybe. Would he still be sitting here with this group of people? Maybe not. That thought made him feel slightly sick.

Susan looked slightly offended. "When was the last time I hexed you Seamuse Finnigan," she asked, not without a certain amount of heat, before pausing and grimacing. "It's been at least two months."

"Loyalty, justice, and hard work don't actually necessarily make you a nice person," she replied thoughtfully. "Think of... what's that Muggle comic nutter with all the black called? Batguy? Manbat?" She shrugged and smiled encouragingly at Dean. "It doesn't really matter though, the past won't be changed."

"Two months isn't that long," Seamus said. "And it hurt." Well, a little. Probably more than Susan had meant it to, but she'd been having a bad day. He didn't really hold it against her.

Seamus looked at Susan, obviously confused. "Batman," he supplied helpfully. "It's really hard to imagine Batman as a Hufflepuff. I mean, the colours are right, but... who is he loyal to?" Besides, like Dean all the Hufflepuffs Seamus knew were just downright nice and friendly and loving.

"Okay, okay, enough of that. Since you're complaining you don't get enough, beautiful, it's time for group cuddles on the sofa. And yes, gorgeous, that does mean all of us. Also possibly the cookies," Dean said, turning to face first Susan, then Seamus.

He stood and picked up the cookies, going and planting himself in the middle of the sofa and waiting for the others to join him.

Tiredly, Susan wandered over and snuggled down next to Dean. There were days where the innate, tactile nature of her friendships at Hogwarts made her actively seek physical affection. Now was one of those times.

"This is nice," she said with a yawn, resting her head on Dean's shoulder and looking over enquiringly at Seamus.

Seamus watched his two friends retire to the sofa, his eyebrows drawn together. Did Dean just...? He shook his head and tried to ignore the way his cheeks suddenly felt warm. He puttered around for a few moments, refreshing glasses and setting the plates to washing before he felt Susan's eyes on him.

"Alright, yes, I'm coming." He grabbed the brownies and handed them to Susan, then fitted himself into the space on Dean's other side, leaning against the armrest with his bare feet curled up and pressing into Dean's leg. He munched on another cookie while he surveyed his friends. Satisfied that everyone was happy and comfortable he tipped his head back against the cushions and closed his eyes.
