Who: Ted and Andromeda
What: CHRISTMAS!!!!
When: December 25, 1971
Where: Ted's flat
Warnings: AWESOMENESS
Status: In progress

Andromeda showing up at his flat had been the last thing Ted had expected when he'd been cleaning up the kitchen the morning at the start of Christmas hols at Hogwarts. In fact, he wasn't sure that he'd get to see Andromeda at all until she'd graduated. However, the moment she showed up, trunk in hand, Ted was pretty sure he understood what had happened. So, while happy to have her, he felt a certain sadness in knowing that she would no longer have her family.

Today was perhaps one of his favourite days outside of Andromeda's birthday: Christmas. He loved having the chance to get presents for Andromeda and planning things for Andromeda, and he could do both without getting a look from her on her birthday and Christmas. He'd gotten the present with the intention of owling it to her once she'd returned to school, but as she showed up, he figured he could give it to her in person now.

He'd been up early, making tea and breakfast (pancakes and sausage) so that it would be perfect. Everything had to be perfect because it was their first Christmas together. Alone but together. Nothing was allowed to mess this up, and he hoped that she was happy when she woke up. He wondered idly if he should wake her, but it was Christmas. She could sleep in on Christmas. There were charms to keep food warm. Once more Ted checked to make sure that everything was set up perfectly before feeling that everything was as perfect as it could be. He just hoped she liked everything.

Funny that he thought she brought out his inner child, because Andromeda was fairly certain it was the other way around. That was the joke, though; the truth was, he brought out the best in her. It wasn't hard to see the best of Ted, though - he was amazing, impossibly amazing, happy and energetic and generous and loving.

"You've done that before, haven't you?" she asked, amused. She could picture him when he was younger, stomach full of food, trying to run around and throw snowballs at people, probably his siblings. She poked him gently in the stomach. "Something tells me you have a habit of trying to have too much fun before you've properly digested."

She sat down, legs folded under her with her feet tucked beneath her knees. She had plenty of table manners, and she did use them, but being free to sit comfortably in her chair was one of the things she loved about staying here with Ted. She also didn't hesitate to show her appreciation and eagerness to try the food he'd made, which would have been frowned upon in her house. "Oh. You made pancakes! And sausage, mm," she said happily, serving herself. She paused before reaching for the syrup to smile at him, warmly. "I really love being here with you, Ted."

Ted gave Andromeda an innocent look. "I don't know what you mean. I always wait the proper amount of time before physical activity." Perhaps not. It wasn't like it was something he did all the time, however. He just got really excited. His mother had warned him each time, but he had just done it anyway.

Sitting down at the table, he smiled at Andromeda's excitement. He liked to see it, even if it was only a little. He liked knowing she was happy, knowing he'd made her happy. If that could be his job for the rest of his life, Ted would be happy to do it. "I wanted everything to be perfect," he said quietly, starting to put some food on his own plate.

I really love being here with you, Ted. He could feel his heart swell in his chest and all he could do was stare wonderingly at her as she poured syrup on her pancakes. After a moment, he recovered enough to say, "I love you being herewith me, Andromeda. It's my favourite."

Andromeda laughed and proceeded to drown her pancakes in syrup. It was Christmas, after all, a day to have sugar. Everything in this flat was the embodiment of what the spirit of the holiday should be, she thought - good food, a bright and shining tree, warmth and comfort, and love. Not just what the holiday should be about, but what life should be about.

And oh, that look he gave her - the one that didn't look past her appearance, her Black features, but saw them as a part of her, and saw her heart and soul too - it never failed to make her feel special and beautiful, even in her near-clashing stripes and antlers and bunny slippers. It made her feel like the center of the universe, his universe. And in the Ted universe, everything was happy and warm and delightful and deliciously sweet, while the world she had left behind was a whole galaxy away, unable to touch her.

"Everything is perfect," she assured him, as she took a bite of his pancake. Mm, that was delicious. "It really is. I'd stay here forever if you wanted me to." And she would. Well, she wanted to finish school - no matter how hard it would be. Even more than before, she needed an education to find a job, to do something with her life. So that she could have money, more than the amount she'd managed to save up and squirrel away once it had occurred to her that she might run away. Since that had happened before meeting Ted, she had a good amount stashed away, but this holiday alone had diminished it significantly.

Ted was happy. In fact, he was more than happy. He didn't know the word for that, but whatever it was, that's what he was right now. The tree was lovely and he couldn't lie that he was excited about the pancakes (because they were delicious), but the best part was that Andromeda was sharing with him.

Lightly tapping her hand with his finger, he let out a small laugh before stealing the syrup from her. With anyone else, he would never have thought to do such a thing, but it was different here. Andromeda was different from other people. She would think it was funny and so he knew it was okay.

"I'm glad," he replied, amusing himself by stabbing a bit of sausage with his fork and eating it. He'd been focusing on trying to stab another piece when Andromeda spoke again. "Forever?" It was another moment before he smiled widely. "Well, one day I figure we can get something bigger than this flat." He looked down at his food nervously for a moment. "I mean...if you were already planning on staying, we might as well figure on a house or something with a yard and everything."

Andromeda did think it was funny. She was enjoying all the little differences between her old life and the new one that she was embarking upon. Those were big differences, such as sharing a bed with someone and not having a house elf, and small differences, like not needing to worry about table manners. Even so, after she grinned at him and turned her attention back to her food, her movements with her fork and knife and the way she ate were still fairly refined out of habit, even if she did it with more gusto and less care for appearances than usual.

"Yes," she said. "I mean - I don't ever want you to feel obligated to let me stay with you, or even be with me at all, just because of what happened with my family. I love being here, but I only love it so much because it makes you happy, too." She smiled at him. "I don't ever want to make you unhappy."

"Although," she added, as she cut up her sausage; she took a bite, chewed, and swallowed before continuing, "I was still planning to go back to school after the hols. But after that, forever. If that's how long you'll want to have me around."

Ted would have to remember that pancakes really were the best choice when it came to breakfast. Though, he might choose waffles sometime. He liked breakfast. Maybe they could do breakfast for dinner...but...something else, perhaps. He didn't know. He just liked that when he was planning meals, he was planning for more than himself. That and having someone to talk to was nice.

"Obligated? No. No, it's not like that." As if to emphasize the point, he shook his head. He did not think of it as an obligation. "I wouldn't ever get tired of you. Not even a little. I am very happy. I promise."

Ted didn't want Andromeda to think she had to do anything like find other living arrangements. He intended to keep her around if he could. He didn't want her to go away. Not even for a little. However, he was quite aware that was very selfish of him, so he drew in a breath before letting it out. "Of course. Must finish your studies. I'm sure you'll be brilliant at whatever it is you choose to do. And of course you can stay forever after that." Already his mind was going over how to save money. Perhaps he would start giving his mother money to put away for him. The thing that held true, was he was going to save money so he could make sure that Andromeda would stay.
