c.brent @esthershaw ... At the library, I have a shelf of monthly recommendations I rotate out. If you need more.
c.brent @esthershaw [...] Not that I think I have any real authority on literature but

esthershaw @c.brent Oh, I'm sure you're selling yourself short. Besides, I'm always looking for book recommendations. If I keep to my own eye, I feel that I never get the true variety that I like.
esthershaw @c.brent I'll be sure to come by the library tomorrow to see what you have on offer.

c.brent @esthershaw I suppose that's true. Wha- actually, do you mind if I direct message you? If not, I understand. It's just that my Instagram isn't private and I wouldn't want to ask questions for you to answer in public.

esthershaw @c.brent Of course! I don't mind at all.

c.brent I'm sorry - I was just going to ask what you were currently reading.... And to maybe warn you that The Chasm is on the shelf this month.

esthershaw I'm just self aware enough to know that I would have been a bit disappointed if it wasn't, so I'm happy to hear it. 😉
esthershaw Right now I'm reading "The Bird King" by G. Willow Wilson, which is really good despite that it's taken some time for me to really get into the meat of the story. This year has not been a good one for me to get through my ever growing TBR pile.

c.brent It has a queue of 28 on hold for it, it isn't just me.
c.brent You did just publish a book, I think it can be forgiven. I read that this summer! I wish I had enjoyed it more, I liked the writing style and the characters, but it was a little too fanciful for my tastes in historical fiction.

esthershaw I'm dangerously close to blushing. I don't think I'll ever totally get used to the idea that people actually want to read my stories.
esthershaw I understand completely where you're coming from. Sometimes I just need a little fanciful, but just as sometimes I want something rooted in reality, especially with historical fiction. I'll probably finish it before I go back to Chicago, though. I haven't decided what I'll pick up next.

c.brent...when is the next one again?
c.brent Oh, no judgment from my end. I enjoy fanciful at times myself, and look at it similar to you. It might depend on what alignment the planets are in or what week it is...

esthershaw When is the next one being released? I'd tell you, but my agent would sense a disturbance and appear in front of me looking very crabby. (Though the last three have come out mid-October every year, so I would be very shocked were that not the case again.)
esthershaw Such is the burden of the well read. We're eclectic in our taste at any given time. Or, at least, that's more or less my own tagline.

c.brent Your agent must be the bloody Mary of book agents. I'm just impatient.
c.brent it's a good estimation. I'm eclectic on my best days, a so-called 'picky bitch' on my worst.

esthershaw More or less. It's very uncanny. I'm glad that you enjoy them enough to feel impatient, though. That's the best sort of compliment.
esthershaw There are worse things to be called. Of course, I say that as an absolute 'picky bitch' myself, so I may be biased.

c.brent I've been trying to not appear overly eager or annoying while you're enjoying a vacation.
c.brent I suppose I would rather be a picky bitch than a judgmental one.

esthershaw That's very kind of you. Technically this isn't a vacation sort of trip, but I appreciate the thought all the same. Not all are as conscientious.
esthershaw So very true.

c.brent Raven Rocks is good if you just want to sit and stare at scenery from an amazing view - but it is a few miles of a hike. Potomac Heritage Scenic Trail is very nice this time of year and no extensive hiking needed to appreciate it. There is also a winery north of town that is said to be haunted by Civil War ghosts?

esthershaw Ah, perfect. I'm not afraid of a bit of a hike, so I'll have to carve some time out of one of my days to check that out.
esthershaw Though, Civil War ghosts. That's intriguing.

c.brent Be sure to bring water and supplies.
c.brent I have never actually seen one there, but er- I watch a great deal of paranormal shows and it seems like the perfect catalyst.

esthershaw I can handle that.
esthershaw I can't say I've ever seen a ghost ever, but I also haven't gone exploring potentially haunted vineyards. I may not be living my best life.
