We just got it settled days ago. Point wasn't to shut her up here. Point was to get her on a plane to daddy, for him to deal with her and lock her up like Eloise or something real similar. But that doesn't matter, because I doubt your brother even meant to go through with it. So, it just made me look like I'm betraying them again, and folks that betray those people don't live long. I risked my life to help you, and I'm real sure my shelf life got even shorter just now. And for what? So I could get gunned down in the street like something that doesn't matter? And this is only going to make things worse. You got to see that. Why the heck can't you see that?

I appreciate you sticking that target on me, when I was just trying to help, and then I appreciate whoever in your damn family took a shot at me. Really. You taught me a real nice lesson about helping. I won't make the mistake twice. Next time, I keep looking out for my own ass instead of believing lies about islands and peacekeeping.

You didn't get a damn thing. You didn't leverage for peace. You told her you had it, and then you did nothing. So all that happened was them knowing I gave it over, because none of them would, and you didn't do a damn thing to try to use it against them to keep things calm. And now someone's shot Chloe, and Alex thinks it's my damn fault for giving you the bank papers in the first place.

Chloe's going to walk away from this with a damn band-aid, and they'll find a way to pin it on one of yours, and Alex is going to put a bullet in my damn head for causing it all.

It was still leverage. You wave that in front of the news, in front of the cops, then they'd go hunting. It would make Alex and Chloe need to live clean and behave, because the whole damn world would believe they'd gotten off on a technicality. They couldn't have risked raising one damn hand against yours with that kind of doubt on them. And they would have agreed, just to keep you from sullying their damn name.

My daddy is a politician, so, yes, the name means something. You think poor folks can buy hotels in Vegas? They'd all get disinherited quick as could be. It was good leverage, and the cops would have been breathing down their necks hard once the media raised a fuss. Sometimes you don't got to use violence to get things. It would have gone a whole lot further for ruining them and showing them who was boss than shooting some damn bullets. Leverage is power, and it would have given you power, sugar.
