[Not long after he gets back to Vegas, Thursday morning (the wee-ish hours).]

[Max M]
[Via work email, as always. Short and sweet, not even a wayward "Sir".]

I'm back.

[There's a delay from when the cursor glows to life and when he finally writes something.]

Tell me your Christmas was better than mine.

A taxi back to the airport worked just fine.

It was a quick turnaround.

[Almost defensive, not that the tone carries very well over the email.] I stayed for dinner. Had some conversations. It was more than long enough.

Another day in enemy territory. I'm used to it by now. At least no one tries to physically blow me up when I'm in Texas, so that goes into the positives column.

[He sends the email and then rereads it. Another one follows the first shortly.]

Sorry, Sir, that email was hardly appropriate. I'll be in in the morning and I'll have [...] things better in hand.

Kid, I possibly have the worst relationship with my parents that is known to man. At ease.

Right now I'm feeling like I might win that contest, but it's probably because it's so recent.

[...] What time are you going to need me in the morning? I'm probably going to have a beer or two too many and maybe invite someone over what the fuck and I don't want to be drag-assing my way into work late.

You're sure? [...] I was under the impression you weren't exactly great with me taking the time off in the first place.

There aren't any recruits coming until Monday. Sleep off the visit home.

Okay. [...] You have my phone if anything changes.

Thanks, Main.

[He thinks about saying something else, but figures what he wants to say wouldn't be received well. He ends up not sending anything else.]
