Who: Kozue and Toru
What: Catching up on that summer homework. Chatting. Gushing.
When: Before Obon
Where: School library? idek
Why: For talking about hot boys. Clearly.

Kozue had put this off, put this off, and put this off, and then put it off some more. But part of the Kondo Family Obon Tradition was her parents and grandparents interrogating her about what her summer homework was, if she had started it, and why she was out having fun when she hadn't started it. And there were precious few days left until she had to go home and face the yearly music (well, it was more than yearly, but this particular tune was an annual favorite).

Thus, she had finally dragged herself back into the school, and down to the library, and for the first time, cracked open her books. She actually hadn't the slightest idea what the homework was, and now she was set up at a table with an iced coffee from one of the vending machines, staring at her texts in a mixture of confusion and resigned glumness.

Ugh. Every year she hoped it was an elaborate hoax and the assignment sheet would actually read "You Fell For It! No Homework!"

Thus far, she had been disappointed every year.

Oh, that room. Kozue nodded, understanding. "A little like he booby-traps his room," she clarified, "at least the front door, and I bet there are all kinds of weird traps on, like, the windows and the closets, too. It'd be dangerous staying there for very long."

There were mitigating factors, of course; Max, and, maybe this was indelicate, "But he does look very good with his shirt off." Her matter of fact tone seemed to suggest that she thought Toru wouldn't be particularly moved by this information, but it should really be a matter of public record.

	"Traps? Wow." Somehow, Toru was not surprised. "I-I am suddenly very glad I didn't try to go there." And then some filter inside his mind apparently shut off. "Yeah, h-he really does! 	"I know, he's—" It took her own brain a moment for certain listening and decoding filters to kick in, and she stopped mid-sentence and blinked at Toru. "Wait. You think Sagaki-senpai looks sexy with his shirt off." Just to confirm. Her voice was a bit incredulous; she was staring in something between fascination and bewilderment. Toru sat there, just as wide-eyed and incredulous as Kozue was, trying to hunt for the right word.

"N-no, I... he.... er... what I meant was..." He trailed off, furiously blushing. It was too late to outright deny it; the grave was already dug for his reputation, and further flustered denials would just be lowering himself further into the coffin.

"Y-yes, I-I do. B-because, well... who wouldn't?"

Kozue furrowed her brow and stared a little—kept staring a little longer after she caught herself staring—before clearing her throat and trying to find a … well, what should she... what was she supposed to...

So Ishinomori's Shadow hadn't just been trying to screw with the team when it had called Reizo its favorite—he really felt that way? About boys? It had to be that, and not a slip of the tongue, judging by how flustered and almost fuschia-red he looked and how hard he was trying to get out a full sentence, and with how little success.

How was she supposed to react to this, exactly? Standing up and shrieking was what they did in movies, but it seemed overblown and very, very rude. (She had no doubt that that's exactly what her grandmother would do, too, which was another tally against it.) She bit her lip, instead, and decided maybe careful neutrality...? But then they were talking about Tom shirtless again, which was a topic that, yes, all people should agree on. "He's totally ripped. He should, like, be in magazines." She grinned. And yet she hadn't managed to make any comment on Toru—Toru's—whatever it was.

It seemed to Toru that Kozue was deliberating over something, based on her shifting facial expressions and overall silence. He deserved it, probably. His classmate was definitely the wrong person to say such things to, and he'd gone ahead and done it because he wasn't socialized well enough to have a goddamn filter when he actually managed to speak. Great going, Ishinomori. She's just as tongue-tied as you are.

He choked on his words, appropriately enough. "T-t-totally! He's got a body like Ku... Er, a-an athlete or a movie star or something. B-but with more scars." Inwardly, Toru sighed in relief that he managed to catch himself before he compared Tom to a fictional character, as he was conditioned to do. "But, I-I dunno. Scars look pretty cool!"

"He does look like a movie star," Kozue agreed, enthusiastically, partly because he did and partly because it was something she could say that wasn't rude or stuttering or entirely mean for no reason. And it was actually… well, when she'd talked to Kiriko about this they'd disagreed and ended up talking about character and now here was someone who agreed with her (apparently) that Tom's stomach muscles were, like, kind of Adonis-like.

"There's definitely something about 'em. I mean, when they're not really awful, it like… adds a sort of mystique. It's very action movie-y." A pause. "Which fits with Sagaki-senpai, really."

If she didn't interrogate what she was doing too hard, it was just like gushing with another girl. A very tall, very alto girl.
