it's my party and i'll cry if i want to...
Who: Kozue and the adoring public You
What: Festivities
Where: Bar Kidnap
When: July 21
Why: Because of presents and alcohol.

True to her word, Kozue had established herself in the VIP area of Bar Kidnap—still pretending to be blissfully unaware of the frightening or ominous implications of the name. She hadn't gone to much (or any) trouble to prove that this was a birthday party, however; she was dressed up, in an outfit a bit scantier than her normal going-out attire. She was sporting a green, sequin-covered minidress and a pair of heels of a ridiculous height. And her hair was even more carefully arranged than normal.

The VIP area was situated on a balcony, overlooking the rest of the club; from there, Kozue was engaged in chatting amicably with one of the older girls from the tennis club, but her attention kept drifting to the entrance downstairs. More people should show up. There weren't nearly enough for the party to be genuinely successful. So, every few moments, she cast a nervous glance downstairs.

The club itself wasn't all that packed; it was a weeknight, after all, and if any of the actual grown-up patrons noticed the steady stream of highschoolers, they weren't making a fuss. And the bouncers had either been bribed very efficiently, or were under instructions not to care, either.

Her glance was cool and unreadable as she turned towards the bar, swirling the ice in her colourful drink before taking a sip and then setting it down. She propped her chin up on her wrist, thin fingers playing idly with the jewelry looping her neck. Truth be told, she was still a little irritated with him, however silly the whole thing was. As far as she was aware though, her presentation came off as thoughtful more than hesitant.

"You know, I always knew he was a creep, but basically he told her he'd only been hanging out with her because he was hoping she'd lay him."

Another sip.

"So he said he didn't want anything to do with her and called her a slut in front of everybody."

She broke eye contact for the second part. It was an odd topic to broach with someone who was guilty of much the same, so she slid instead into quiet passivity and waited for a response.

He actually burst out laughing at that. Not quiet, amused chuckles, but raucous, full-blown, gut-busting laughter. He’d always known Sagaki was a screwball, and overconfident to an almost crippling degree when it came to some things, but overcoming the mountain that was his creepy personality just because he was hanging around a girl with a reputation for finding and losing boys as she pleased? That was really good.

So he spent a few moments calming down, and then a few more throwing around a glare sharp enough to make people quit staring at him. It didn't take long until people were 'ignoring' him again. He slumped back down into his chair proper again, and flicked his eyes over her face and then down to the necklace she was playing with.

“So he got frustrated over being a virgin and called a girl a slut for not sleeping with him? I always knew he was short a few cards from a full deck, but that's really great."

Kiriko was very suddenly posessed with the urge to move a few seats over, but settled for resting her forehead against the back of his hand and pretending to be invisible until he got a hold of himself again. She straightened somewhat, or at least unslumped her shoulders, when she felt eyes turning away from where they were sitting, taking another quiet sip of her drink.

"What a piece of work, huh?" She leaned back in her chair with her hands still against the bar, stretching and rolling her shoulders. "I never liked him, but to go that far? And on her birthday, too?"

She leaned forward against the bar again, threading her fingers together and resting her chin on them.

"Anyway, you should ease up on comments like that for a while, given the circumstances." It was a casual suggestion accompanied by quiet behaviour, but she still couldn't be sure of the response.

“Mmrm,” he grunted in near quiet agreement. He’d never cared for the little shit either, but he doubted anyone was in the dark with that. Anyone trying to play delinquent or whatever the hell it was that guy was trying to do automatically went onto his shit list, and were generally watched closely from there on out. Not personally or anything, but just how they behaved in the streets and if they ever tried to make a grab for power.

When she spoke next and requested something or whatever it was she attempting to do from him he just fixed her with a calm stare and tilted his head. He smiled at her, and chuckled lightly. She’d been acting a little distant for awhile now, well, more so than usual, and now she was gently suggesting he avoid calling Kozue a slut when any other time she’d be likely to tell him flat out.

“And what do I get out of it?”

She clicked her tongue in irritation, crossing her arms and leaning forward to put both her elbows on the counter.

"I shouldn't have to tell you what the benefits to our... group getting along are."

She rubbed irritably at her arms, unfolding them to take another drink. The cup was rapidly emptying. She'd been pacing herself all night and though she could feel a faint buzz, it was getting to be a bit of a drag. Still, big parties loaded with people she knew, almost all of whom loved to gossip, were absolutely no place to lose her head. She was pretty sure she didn't look drunk enough to make promises she could weasel out of later, too. Doubly unfortunate. She finished the rest, and her squirming ended with it. Once again, she propped her chin up on her hand.

"Just do it, you brat," she grumped. "I'll pick up your tab for the rest of the night."

Another laugh. This one more a bark than a string, but he still sounded just as amused as he had earlier. Luckily it was brief enough to not draw any lingering states and embarrass the company he was keeping that much. He leaned in towards her and the bar from across his table, arms lifting so he could rest his elbows on it and prop his chin up in his hands in some mockery of her.

“You’re kinda cute when you’re drunk, Ikeda…” he started, eyes dropping from the half-drunk flush of her face to her legs, then back up to her face again. He stared at her for awhile, head canted at an angle and thick cigar burning merrily away as he puffed on it, obviously considering her offer. She was double-time in the hole with him, and now here she was again. Did he really need another favor off her? There’d be more chances later.

“But just bein’ a cute drunk ain’t gonna get you what you want. Maybe if you come sit at the table like a normal person and look me in the eye when askin’ for something you might have a better chance of getting it?”

She considered this and decided that oh yeah, she'd definitely need another drink for this. Temperance be damned, she grabbed a fresh glass and a refill. After a long drink, she slid off the barstool and into the chair across from him. She turned her drink in one hand and crossed her legs under the table, settling into the new seat with discomfort that had nothing to do with the chair.

"Thought you didn't want my company, Shirai," she grumbled, "or am I supposed to get up again once I've played by your rules?"

She continued to swirl her drink moodily, considering she must honestly be entering "drunk" territory to have allowed herself to say that one out loud. She took another drink all the same, then sighed.

"Just ease up, okay?" She relaxed her shoulders, leaned back in her chair and forced her eyes up to his face. "It's not like she deserves it."

He was a little disappointed she hadn’t put up a fight, or even made some exaggerated show out of it for mocking purposes. Well, surprised, anyway. He heaved out a sigh and a heavy cloud of smoke, both directed squarely in her direction and then leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms across his chest and giving her a hopeless look.

“I guess you’re right. But I ain’t ordering shit from this place. You can treat me out somewhere else.”

Then he went quiet for a moment, and his eyes flicked to behind her shoulder and to the birthday girl and then right back to Kiriko. He leaned over the table towards her conspiratorially, hand dipping into the inner pocket of his jacket to retrieve a handsome gift box, which he then slid to her across the table to her with all the subterfuge he could muster.

“Give this to your undeserving friend then,” he told her, and once it was safely out of his hands and without nametag he leaned back into his chair and regarded her with a curiously playful smile, “and why so upset? You been missin’ me?”

With the more-or-less amiable treatment she was recieving she could feel her mood moving away from Grouchy and Irritable and back towards something more giddy and befitting of the current atmosphere. She decided she would forgive the previous slight against her and shift her mental energy towards making sure she did not enter "drunk enough to dance" territory.

The giftbox was somewhat surprising. She looked at it, then over her shoulder to Kozue, then back to Reizo, suppressing her smile.

"If there are drugs in here, you better take the fall if I get caught," she declared flatly as she slid the box in her purse, giving it a little shake under the table to try to discern its contents. He wouldn't possibly be handing out drugs, right? Then again, given the nature of the party... Maybe she should hand it over outside the dorm just to be safe.

"Why so curious?" She returned the playful smile as she spoke. "Hoping I'll say yes?"

His smile grew a little wider, curled, and finally settled into a proper smirk. Half of the reason Ikeda was fun was because she knew how to bat and play without crossing any lines(mostly), swiping but hardly without any claws. She got a little bossy sometimes, but not to the point where he’d want to squash it out of her.. But the opinion most of the ‘team’ carried around about her control over him was definitely something to be worked on.

“No,” he hissed out, giving her a reproachful look as he pulled out a plain cigarette and lit it and hung it from his mouth. “I don’t deal drugs,” technically he’d never actually sold them out of pocket, “and even if I did.. Well, look around, giving out some in a place like this’d be redundant anyway.”

His feet came down off an adjacent chair and he finally sat up proper to face her, before he reached over across the table to steal her drink and gulp it down. It was almost impressive that he didn’t even need to remove the cigarette jutting out of the corner of his mouth to do so.

Once he’d drained it he reclined bonelessly back against his chair again, roguish smirk returning. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

"I didn't think you did - It's hard to imagine you standing still in one place for that long."

She watched with a quirked brow as he stole the rest of her drink. Downing it with the cigarette intact must be practiced. Either way, it was probably best that she didn't finish that.

"Hmm, how sad, you didn't miss me too."

That pretty much counted as answering in the positive, but she kept her face more or less unreadable nonetheless. Her head rolled to one side, in the direction of the glass he'd just replaced on the table, which she was now pointing to.

"You like girly drinks, eh?" She grinned. "Who knew. Should I keep it a secret, just between us?"
