it's my party and i'll cry if i want to...
Who: Kozue and the adoring public You
What: Festivities
Where: Bar Kidnap
When: July 21
Why: Because of presents and alcohol.

True to her word, Kozue had established herself in the VIP area of Bar Kidnap—still pretending to be blissfully unaware of the frightening or ominous implications of the name. She hadn't gone to much (or any) trouble to prove that this was a birthday party, however; she was dressed up, in an outfit a bit scantier than her normal going-out attire. She was sporting a green, sequin-covered minidress and a pair of heels of a ridiculous height. And her hair was even more carefully arranged than normal.

The VIP area was situated on a balcony, overlooking the rest of the club; from there, Kozue was engaged in chatting amicably with one of the older girls from the tennis club, but her attention kept drifting to the entrance downstairs. More people should show up. There weren't nearly enough for the party to be genuinely successful. So, every few moments, she cast a nervous glance downstairs.

The club itself wasn't all that packed; it was a weeknight, after all, and if any of the actual grown-up patrons noticed the steady stream of highschoolers, they weren't making a fuss. And the bouncers had either been bribed very efficiently, or were under instructions not to care, either.

Iburi’s alleyways were never known to be particularly safe, or clean. The city was positively bursting at the seams with street vermin of all sorts, with the most noticeable and notorious walking on two legs. Still, rats weren’t the only animals to watch out for in the back streets if you kept your ear low to the ground, and maybe that wasn’t why it was so surprising when one of them came strutting out of the shadows and into the light, the jagged scar on his mouth just as striking as the bright red fur-lined coat he wore.

“Ooh, that sounds nice senpai,” he said, chomping down on his cigar and flashing them a bright, toothy grin. “Wouldn’t mind visitin’ your place.” And taking an inventory.

Then he regarded the girls, mostly Kozue, with appraising, curious looks. “You should really use a mirror, Kondo-chan. Even pros make mistakes sometimes."

Then he frowned, gave his head a quizzical tilt, and asked them: "What're you three doin' out here?"

Kanaye looked at Reizo and smiled. "I'm sure my parents and the armed guards stationed there would LOVE to see you, Shirai-san."

He shrugged. "Tom was a douche, Kozue ran out here, we came to prevent her from doing something stupid. It's the way things work, yaknow."

Kozue sighed, but between new shoes and having just sobbed her heart out, she was actually mellow enough to deal civilly with Reizo. "Just… taking a breather. Um. From that." Kanaye had to be honest? Great. "And I'm just going to fix that problem." She gestured to her face. Ugh. It must be bad. A pause. "Did you actually come for my party or were you just passing by?" Lurking was what she'd wanted to say, but hadn't the nerve.

And ooh, the new shoes were comfortable. Really comfortable. She wiggled her toes; Kiriko must have figured out her size before buying.

Kiriko sighed inwardly. She'd already dealt with one disaster for the night, really, that should be her quota. Any more handling of people and they should pay her extra. She turned around to look at Reizo and had to double take.

"... Nice jacket. It's July, you know." Coupled with the cigar the whole thing was trying rather hard, but she decided it was best to move on from the topic as quickly as possible.

"If you want to know about it, I'll tell you more inside."

The look he fixed Kanaye with was murderous and lingering, and the grin that sliced his face in two was just as unnerving. “Don’t be so mean, senpai, or I’m gonna drain away that pittance of money you’re so proud of away with dental bills.”

When he turned his attention back to the less annoying two the grin melted, and feigned hurt instead. “Aw, Kondo-chan, you didn’t even invite me to your party? I thought we was friends. I’ve even been in your room an’ stuff.”

He left the follow up about how he could see how that might not mean much to her given half the school had the same privilege out. Well, it was her birthday after all, and even yakuza could respect things like that.

“Just ‘cuz it’s July don’t mean I shouldn’t look nice,” he told Kiriko, then flicked his eyes over her and grinned wide, with significantly less malice, “though it’s refreshing to see you leading by example, Ikeda.”

Then he nodded towards the door as if to say lead the way.

Kanaye was not impressed. "You'd be surprised. My dental insurance is AMAZING."

Either way, he turned and walked back into the club.

Kozue shrugged, "I did invite you. You didn't see? I invited the whole school." She felt oddly discomforted, mostly because hey look the yakuza was threatening people a few feet from her, but at least he wasn't threatening her.

Kiriko didn't manage much more than a scowl and a "tch" as she led the way indoors.
