Who: Kozue and Tom
What: Sneaky Conversations. Or conversations and sneaking.
When: Evening, after the dungeon and the angels and all
Where: The lawn outside Tom's room
Why: It's too stereotypical not to do.

Plink. Plink. Plinkplinkplink. Something was hitting the window of Tom's room with light force, and persistent, uneven rhythm; something was being thrown against the window. A pause. And the whole process repeated. Most people in the world probably wouldn't notice it, but Kozue was counting on Tom's extreme paranoia. He kept his room like a fortress, practically. He'd have to notice a weird sound. (And if he didn't the dog would.)

She was standing below his window, throwing handfuls of small pebbles up at the window every so often. And waiting.

Tom paused and put his hands in his pockets. he didn't look at Kozue as he spoke.

"Then we have to beat them ourselves. We'll always fear them as long as we don't understand them. If we know what they can do, we can come up with a plan to beat them. If we just hope they go away then when they do come we'll be doomed.

We either fight or we die."

He finally looked at her and frowned.

"If this is too much for you... just because you have a persona doesn't mean you have to do this. You didn't volunteer for this, and so it's not your responsibility. You have a choice."

She waited a moment, and then shook her head—it send her curls bobbing in every which direction, and some of them flopped into her face. With one hand, she brushed them back, and actually answered: "I don't think you're right. If people might die, and I can help them, it's my duty to help. People don't… volunteer, I guess, for responsibility. They just get it." At least, something this big? You don't choose it or ask for it.

She stopped, and looked around, waiting for Tom's response: another lecture about people not caring for one another? It seemed like it was in the cards.

Tom paused, and thought for a long time. He seemed to formulate his answer.

"If there are other people willing to go in and save those who might die, and you know they will, then you don't need to do it.

Unless I get killed you can be sure I'm going to go in after everyone who gets sent to paradise, so if you are afraid you can... give up."

"Thanks, sempai, for the offer, but I'm fine. Let's just go back to the dorm already."

She smiled down at Max, said something encouraging, along the lines of let's go home, Max-chan, and started walking. She was trying to figure out whether to follow the instinct that told her to be flattered that Sagaki was trying to protect her feelings, despite claiming not to care about anyone, or the instinct that told her to be insulted that he thought she was so pitiful that she'd quit just because she wasn't the only one who had a Persona…

In the end, though, flattered made more sense; He's just trying to be nice, and gallant, and gentlemanly. To be protective. You should appreciate that.

Tom nodded and walked back to the dorm. Max, with the encouragement from Kozue popped up and trotted after the two of them, sticking close to Kozue.

They walked back, and parted amiably enough at the door--Kozue, at least, was going to go in the normal-person way.
