Who: Kozue and Tom
What: Sneaky Conversations. Or conversations and sneaking.
When: Evening, after the dungeon and the angels and all
Where: The lawn outside Tom's room
Why: It's too stereotypical not to do.

Plink. Plink. Plinkplinkplink. Something was hitting the window of Tom's room with light force, and persistent, uneven rhythm; something was being thrown against the window. A pause. And the whole process repeated. Most people in the world probably wouldn't notice it, but Kozue was counting on Tom's extreme paranoia. He kept his room like a fortress, practically. He'd have to notice a weird sound. (And if he didn't the dog would.)

She was standing below his window, throwing handfuls of small pebbles up at the window every so often. And waiting.

"Of course it's karma, Shirai does something bad, and something equally bad happens to him."

Tom nodded. He had never seen a problem with him being an agent of karma.
He shook his head.

"I don't need checked up on. I'm not a little kid, I've been taking care of myself since I was six."
If I did, I would never admit it to either of us.

Kozue gave him a flat look at the first comment, but didn't bother saying anything. That wasn't quite how it worked. "Yes, but I need to see how you are." She scratched through the hair around Max's neck.

"And I wanted to find out what you thought about everything. Since you know about Christian angels, apparently, and you were the one who had a plan."

Tom was beginning to feel distinctly uncomfortable with Kozue. Mostly because just as in the past, he felt like she cared, she was interested in who he was, she wanted to be his friend, and he wanted to be hers. This was clearly the source of her popularity, and she had to be lying, no one could possibly care about other people like this.

Except Aoi.

"I'd had some passing knowledge on them from earlier research. I've been looking into it even more since Paradise. I don't have anything helpful, besides a pretty firm belief that they aren't actually angels."

"Hm. I guess that's pretty helpful, even…" She shrugged. "What do you think they were, then?" She pulled back from petting Max, putting her hands into her lap. It wasn't entirely helpful, but it was way more than everything else they had to go on.

Tom shrugged.

"Shadow's mostly. Possibly what happens to people who's shadows kill them, since denying your shadow turns them into a separate creature, maybe they survive. Or those monsters we beat up are sort of the weakest of the Shadows, and the powerful they get, the more sentient. We've already seen that a persons shadow is more powerful then the regular ones, able to talk and plan."

Kozue nodded, finding a stray thread on the hem of her skirt and beginning to fuss with it as Tom went on. It made sense, she supposed—and the pit of her stomach wasn't weighing in at all, not in the same way that it always seemed to drop when she thought of the possibility that these were real angels, servants of some real creator-god whom she'd never actually believed existed.

She wasn't sure if the dropping feeling in her stomach meant it was true or meant it was false, but it was a reaction, and Tom's theory brought about no such thing. "I guess… I hope we don't find out, actually, and they just never come back." Like that was going to happen, but. "Should we head back to the dorms?"
