Spreading the Good News (tag: Isis)
Anubis’ return had put Bast in an extremely good mood. There was nothing she liked better in the world than getting exactly what she wanted, and her brother coming home ranked pretty damn high on the getting what she wanted list. He’d even brought her a present. A real one.
Pleased with her present, with her brother, and with life in general, Bast decided that she deserved to celebrate. So she was going to go do something rather naughty, slightly dangerous, and a whole lot of fun. She was going to tug the tiger’s tail. She was going to tease Fatima.
Well not directly. Even Bast wasn’t quite that reckless or foolhardy. Her mother’s servant was not the usual sort that populated the rest of her staff. Oh, they were competent and efficient and all kinds of great things. Bast, though she’d never tell Isis, frequently recommended that her own servants follow their example. But Fatima was different, on a whole other level.
Frankly, she kind of scared Bast. But that’s what made this sort of game fun. The possibility of getting caught.
She started small, moving things out of place just enough that she knew the staff would have to move them back. Bast flitted from room to room with the stealth of the desert cat with which she was associated. Soon, the entire household was buzzing as her actions were discovered and corrected. Servants were taken away from their normal routine to fix what she had done.
Bast giggled softly as she slipped silently through the formal dining room. That was the first volley, designed to fluster Fatima. But it wouldn’t be enough to make her tug at her hair just yet. Crossing to the small closet, it was unfair to call it a china hutch, where her mother’s good dishes were kept, she went to work pulling them out carefully so as to avoid making noise. Once she had them all out, she was going to build a very pretty sculpture out of them while the others were busy with her other distractions. After that, she’d have to see what other problems she could cause.
