If Fatima had gotten any closer, Bast was prepared to hide behind her mother. Not that she was scared, it was just that Isis was more tactful about telling the servant what was what. That’s all. Though the comment about her beloved Cocoa Puff’s nearly had her following the woman out of the room to protest. She hadn’t done anything that bad!
But her mother’s comment needed correction, so Bast stayed in her seat. Barely. “Oh, no, Mama. That’s not why we need champagne. I told you, I know something you don’t know… and it’s a really good something.”
She paused, considering for a moment before adding, “Though, it will make you a liar. Because it’s probably going to be a further disruption. Maybe kind of a big one.”
Bast was having quite a good time teasing Isis, since it was rare that she had something this juicy and her mother didn’t have an inkling. But since Anubis just got here, she was sure that he’d not come to see Isis yet. She was going to squeal when she found out. A lot. There was no doubt in Bast’s mind that their mother loved him deeply and dearly. She was the best mom in the world.
And suddenly, the need to make Isis happy outweighed the fun of good-natured taunting. Just that quickly, Bast gave up her information. “Nubie came home.”
