It wasn’t often that Yuriko ventured out and about in the early afternoon. Most of the time she spent hiding in the background and watching the last preparations being made before the gates opened for the flood of visitors in the evening. She kept out of the way, then. Her job was to help with clean up at the end of the night, at the end of their stay and to keep any pests away from the food and the wires of the rides. Yuriko did love running around the carnival in the middle of the night, chasing off rats and other small animals that might want to try and munch on some wires or try and sneak into food stores that they weren’t allowed into.
Her stomach growled absently as she approached the tent where they did the catering. Helping herself to a little bit of the spread that was put out for the ‘staff’, she had a paper plate with a few sandwiches on it and was about to head back to where she kept her belongings when her ears pricked (well, metaphorically pricked anyway) at the sound of someone else nearby. A quick sniff of the air quickly let her identify the person near her as Ciaran.
She’d spoken to him a few times, they kind of worked together at points, and he didn’t seem to mind the way she watched him whenever he was giving pony rides to children. It was oddly.. .fascinating to watch. Her tail flicked from side to side as she debated with herself about leaving and disappearing to her own private space or actually trying to… talk to him.
It was hard, she didn’t really start the conversations a lot of the time. Especially with the newer people. She didn’t know them, didn’t know what they were like, but then Julian had told her that she’d never actually get to know anyone if she didn’t occasionally actually make the first move and talk to someone. So make the first move she would.
Grabbing another paper plate and putting some sandwiches on it, Yuriko shifted a little and steeled herself to walk around the edge of the tent to where Ciaran was. Her grip on the plates was pretty tight and her tail was a little puffed out, betraying her nervousness, but she was at least trying. Wouldn’t Julian be proud, she thought to herself as she cleared her throat.
“Hey,” she started, voice having a slight squeak to it before she cleared her throat and started again, holding the slightly more loaded plate out to the taller man, “Uh, hi,” she tried again. “I- food?” A little while ago, he’d shared his lunch with her, it was only fair to return the favour, right? The tip of her tail twitched nervously.
