Just a thought- maybe we are looking at this wrong. She had the baby as a pony. Are there any illnesses common in horses following a birth? Or something that would be dormant in a horse, but badly affect a human? Maybe we should be looking at equestrian medicine.

Wait, you lot are still working on her? And there's still no diagnosis? I would call you "idiots" but - well, my former boss is here for that, and has so much more fun with it, besides....!

Anyway's, well, that seems obvious enough a problem! I mean, let me Google it for "horse diseases" and get back to you, alright?

[Ten minutes later!]

No, sorry, I cannot find ANYTHING that would affect a human worse than a pony! I mean, I cannot find anything that would affect a human at all post-pony-birth....!

Although: I DO have a theory! I mean, horses tend to eat their placentas to replace blood volume and nutrients and such as, don't they? What if during the stint in Cartoon Pony land -- well - I think that it's possible that there wasn't a placenta to eat and thus- she's just suffering from blood loss and malnutrition after giving birth in that magical cartoon pony land, and then - coming back here, to the REAL world....!

Right, maybe instead of calling us idiots you actually could come down here and help.

We have obviously done blood tests for something so basic. Try again.

Sorry, sir... But I really have no idea, then...!

I do have one question, before I come down to the ER to help: Is Gregory House working on this case too? Because I swore that I would never subject myself to another shibari bondage remark from his mouth! It's part of why he's a "Former" boss of mine....!

Are you really so unprofessional that you will refuse to treat a patient depending upon who is currently on shift? The patient is your priority. Leave your personal life at the door.

I'm sorry, sir but - well - if House is there then- you don't really need me anyway's....! I mean, for serious: that man taught me everything I know about diagnostics - around the shibari bondage video cracks, of course!

Yes, we are still working on her. If you did work with House as you claim, then you would know that diagnosing a complicated case can take longer than one night.

Well, I'm no expert, but have you considered retained placenta?

What are her symptoms?

I'd be more than happy to come see if I can help. Quite good at diagnosing things and finding out what's wrong.

I think the midwife ruled it out, but I will check her file. It is more common in livestock, I believe. Good shout.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Common in livestock, yes, but not always obvious in equine. And if she gave birth as a horse and when reverted to human on coming back to the island... it could be harder to locate. If that's the case.
Or maybe a rapture or tear or bruising? I can't really be sure without seeing her myself.

Well, you humans could use a different mindset, and a different diagnosis tool. I happen to have both.

Low blood pressure, skin discoloration and cyanosis, problems with blood clotting and seizure is another possible one. She's imminent for a cardiac arrest if we can't figure out what's wrong. I thought it was preeclampsia but she's not responding to treatment.

Sorry to question a man of your obvious experience, Doctor Bruce but - what's the magnesium sulfate drip rate up to at this point? Because I would expect it to be full-blown eclampsia by now, and thus - well, you may not be giving her quite enough magnesium to combat it...!

I take it she wasn't given any medication as a horse? Could be that the dose is still in her system but too high for a human?

No, it was completely natural as far as I'm aware. How she managed it is beyond me. There is no infection, no fever, barely any outwardly visible symptoms. It's all internal.

It's a puzzle. A puzzle with a time limit.

Okay. I'm going to hit the textbooks. Anything comes up, or you need me, just shout. I'll stay in the hospital.

I asked Tony about it. Completely natural birth. She was in her family's barn at the time, actually.
