Just a thought- maybe we are looking at this wrong. She had the baby as a pony. Are there any illnesses common in horses following a birth? Or something that would be dormant in a horse, but badly affect a human? Maybe we should be looking at equestrian medicine.

Input from Sherlock. "I'm wondering if it might be the fact that not only was she pregnant, but she's changed her shape, as will the child have done in the womb, which may cause complications which haven't been seen before. Plus in a barn is hardly sterile."

That could cause something rare to become a commonality....

Definitely.

Could there be some sort of internal rupture that we can't diagnose without- How's the MRI coming along? I assume the midwife will have tried an ultrasound to no avail?
