You know it's shit, remembering everybody that's ever come to this island, right? Everyone who's died. Everyone who's vanished. Digging their holes in the ground. Making something to mark them.

I get riot act from one, because her son was here before. Because I remember him. I bothered to lie to her, and to her husband. I bothered to give a shit, about them. And just said he vanished. But he made an impression.

Why is she even reading the list of dead people? There are so many pissed off noises and not enough pissed off words to go with them.

	I don't know. I just do. It's part of the reason I got good grades in school. Because there wasn't a single fact that I could forget.
