Dear Sirs,

Having arrived yesterday morning, I would like to ask whomsoever should read this to confirm these particulars.

- We are circling a faraway star.
- There is no way to leave this place of our own volition, but we will someday leave.
- There are people here who should be long dead, or not yet born.
- Most of the property and goods here are unclaimed, and so taking them is not theft.
- Hamilton is

Thank you for your assistance.

A. Burr

Of course, I was starting to wonder when you’d show up. It’s not the same without you.

Yeah, I’ve done okay considering. Could’ve done with your help a couple weeks ago mind you.

Everyone needs a bit of healthy competition, although from the look of things I'm not sure that one lawyer is needed here, let alone two.

What happened a couple of weeks ago?

Exactly, I was starting to get complacent! A few people needing advice about marriage and divorce, perhaps. Someone did ask about a will. Nothing very exciting, unfortunately. Not even any tenancy agreements to sign off on.

It's probably easier if I show Some pretty heated disagreements about who should and should not speak, and about what, at the town hall meeting. Had to get some security in place in the end. Madness.

[Burr]

Take your own advice with Ms Walker. Talk less. Trust me.

All very dull-sounding, but I'll study the law here and catch myself up, just in case.

That's more volatile than I was expecting. If it's an open town meeting, shouldn't anyone be allowed to speak? I'm sorry I wasn't there to calm things. I'd say next time, but it's better there isn't one.

Hamilton, hearing that advice from you means I absolutely must take it. Is she unwell? All this about Norse Gods, I can't tell if it's mockery or something worse.

Yeah, about that. There is no written law here, apparently they were… happy to make the assumption that everyone had the same basic moral code, despite coming from different worlds, times, planets, cultures etc.

The whole place is a legislative mess.

They’d also not held any town meetings in years, from what I can gather. There will be another on the 30th of the month. Hopefully it won’t get so heated, but your support would certainly mean a great deal.

Yes, unfortunately. But not how you might expect. The things about the Norse Gods are not her imagination. I’ll get Liberty to make you a copy of the minutes for the meetings you’ve missed. That ought to help. Or further confuse.

A mess? That might be the understatement of the year. Let me guess, you've been trying to fix it all single-handedly?

The 30th. That gives me enough time to figure this place out, I think. If you send me your meeting plans in advance, I can tell you whether I support them. Regardless, I'll help keep the peace.

I swear, this had better not all be one big joke. Magic and pagan gods. Who is Liberty?

Correct. And may have ran myself into the ground so badly I ended up in medbay for two weeks hooked up to all sorts. Some sort of fever they call malaria. Apparently I was asking for you in my fever dream. I mean, maybe I wanted you to come and catch it from me, I don't know, but the thought was there. Ha.

Great, I'll be sure to do that. I know you will, you've always been a hell of a lot better at that than me. In that you actually try.

It's not. It's really not, as crazy as it all sounds.

Liberty is my good friend and secretary.

Isn't that something? More likely you were calling for me because you wanted me to come and take over your work here. Improve on it. Fix the mistakes.

Be careful though, Hamilton. Two weeks is nothing serious but you need to avoid any worse exhaustion if you can.

I think you wouldn't be bad at it, if you tried.

I'd suspect that I was the one really having a fever dream right now, but I know I don't have that kind of imagination. Still. Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks your Philip is much older than he should be?

Ah. Have him send me over the minutes then, yes. They'll be helpful.

Sure, sure, that must've been it!

I will. There are people here looking out for me, now. I think I gave more than just myself a scare.

Hey, I think you'd be pleased with me. I didn't let the ladies fight it out in person! No one duelled. No one even threw a punch. Not bad, huh?

My fever dreams were all of home. You're not the only one - last I remember he was but two years old. I haven't told him, and if he suspects something is up, he hasn't let on.

Her. Actually, why don't you come by the office. We'll get you the minutes, and a map, and whatever else might be useful, and then I can take you for a drink.

Good to hear!

That's not bad at all, if my first impressions of this place are anything to go by. Would the ladies really have fought?

I won't breathe a word of it to him then. Let him think I'm very forgetful instead. He seems like a clever little lad, though. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to have his suspicions.

Her? Hamilton, this is going to take some explanation! Over a drink might be best, I agree. I could do with one. Your office is on the third storey?

I have no doubt that they would have fought, had they been in the same room at the time. I've never known women quite like it, and I've been to some hella sketchy districts.

Yeah, he'll likely figure it out in time, but I'm hopeful that he won't hold it against me. He's smart enough to know why I would want to protect him.

Haha! Oh, yeah. Like you said, I'm doing pretty well for myself. You've got it, you really have been making yourself familiar.

I'd heard that educating women better would cultivate in them the best of our habits. Maybe it means they get the worst of them as well.

Yes, he'll understand. Possibly not immediately, but he will.

Pretty well is one way to put it! I was also told you're a lord now. That's a story I need to hear.

Familiar enough to know where to go, not enough to know I won't get lost along the way. But I'll be there as soon as I can.

Well, I don't know how educated they are. I know a little about the background of one of them, and it is as strange and troubling as you might suspect. There is that, too.

Ha, oh yeah! Word is spreading, it seems. Entirely by accident, I assure you. Should probably hate it more than I do.

Alright, see you soon.
