Hello everyone,

For those of you I haven't met, I'm Hannah Hale. I arrived here yesterday, and I've been told some very remarkable things about this place. It's utterly vast, and I think it would be very easy to get lost and never see anyone. I was told that this was an appropriate place to make introductions. I'm here with my seven children. It's just us. Their father died in the war. Most of them seem to like it here very much, not least because of the size of our living space!

I should also mention that if you have back trouble, or other persistent aches and pains, I'd be happy to treat them. I'm very good at it, and I can guarantee you will notice a difference.

I know that feeling very well. I can soothe it, but only temporarily. If it's the baby causing it, it's going to come back. We could meet regularly until it's time for the birth, though, and that will keep it away most of the time. Is this your first baby?

How lovely. Congratulations! You'll know just what to expect then. How old are your others?

My twins are six. I'm sorry that your children aren't here with you. That must be difficult. I don't really understand what seidr is - how can a baby become a grown man so quickly?

seiðr is magic. this place has magic and it can make people be older or younger than they should be, or it can make a man be a woman or a woman be a man, or it could make you and i switch bodies. it has never done these things to me, but my sister's husband is a seið-man and it changes him at times.

it sounds like a tale to be told round the fire, i know, but we live in the stars with the gods now and it is what we must expect.

If this is what happens here, why isn't everyone much more afraid? If you're right, then it could turn me into a five-year-old. My eldest girl is capable, but she's eleven. She won't manage the household if anything were to happen to me.

we are here until we are returned home and we cannot change that. just as we cannot change if or when these things may happen to us. to live in fear of them all the time? it cannot be done. back home, if i were to fear what the sea would do every time my husband or my sister or my brothers were away, i would do nothing, and that cannot be.

if it helps, everyone here would help you and your family if that were to happen. the people here are kind.

I worried for my husband every day that he was away. My worry didn't save him, but it didn't prevent me from doing what I had to, either. That you can't change a situation doesn't mean that you shouldn't feel anything about it.

Thank you. That's some comfort. Even if it doesn't lead to disaster, though, those things are just bizarre. Imagine turning into a man! You're saying that 'Darcy' is being entirely serious?

i am not saying not to feel. i feared for my family every time, but i had my children to look after and my home to run and the animals to tend to and fear does not let that happen. you understand, i know.

mr darcy is telling you the truth, yes.

Yes, I think we understand each other very well on that account.

I need to think about this. None of it makes any sense. I'm not calling you a liar, I just...it's a lot to accept.
