Forgive me if this is too personal a question for such a public space, but: has anyone else experienced a change in their dreams after arriving here?

One does not need magic to do great harm where I come from, but my calling is to help those with magic not harm themselves or others.

How do you do that? Do you fight against these demons before they can cause harm?

We do fight demons, yes. We also help mages learn to be strong in the face of demons. We keep them safe from physical threats and if needed we can counter, dissipate and block magic.

That sounds admirable. It is all with their agreement, I take it? Forgive my suspicion, but in my homeland, 'keeping safe' wasn't always as it seemed.

Most agree, especially as our protection not only guarantees food, shelter and a community but also training in their magic. But there are cases where persuasion is necessary. In the most extreme of cases we may have to sever a mage's magic, but it is usually a last resort. There have been difficulties recently, however.

I see.

The men who kept me in a cell told me that I was lucky to have food and shelter too. And my life, given that the rest of my family were slaughtered. They waited until two years into the occupation before they started severing magic. We were being difficult in fighting back.

I'm sorry you've suffered, but your situation and the situation of the mages who were under my care were different.
