Forgive me if this is too personal a question for such a public space, but: has anyone else experienced a change in their dreams after arriving here?

What kind of change do you mean? The content of your dreams? Actually dreaming where you didn't before (or the other way round)? Something like that?

I can remember them now, something I could only do in bits and pieces before. Is the connection to the fade thin here?

I'd need to know what the fade is, before I could answer that.

That is more than fair, though you not knowing already answers my question. If you're not connected to where dreams come from, where do yours come from?

I might have known it by a different name.

Most people would think that dreams are simply your brain sorting out your memories from the previous day. But I don't dream like that, I never have. My dreams come from my Shine. I have nightmares dream of ghosts and I have visions.

I don't sleep a lot.

So you are a mage?

No, I'm an orderly/janitor in a hospice. I help look after people who are dying. And here, I'm trying to become a therapist or counsellor or just someone that can help. I just happen to Shine as well.

Mage, as I understand it, isn't an occupation. It is more a state of being. We would see your abilities as magic and consider you a mage no matter if this was your only gift.

Right, okay. And is being a mage good or bad?

It is something like being left-handed, not terrible but it does make your life more difficult.

Well, that's an understatement

Do only mages dream, where you come from?
And now you're starting to dream (or remember them, at least), so are you worried that you might be a mage?

No, but their magic better connects them to the fade, which is were non-dwarves go when they dream. I would dream before, as far as I know, but I was less aware of it.

And no, there isn't magic in my family and it would have manifested much earlier in life. I was just wondering if it was because if I was somewhere so removed from the fade or if this was just the natural progression of my training.
