[Everyone is sent a link to this - it's web page style, more static than the regular network posts]

In the village of Privkat, before the dark times, the elders would teach the young people about magic. They learned how to shape it, and how to use it. By the time I arrived there, the practice had stopped. The magic we learnt was in secret, and was limited, and then there was none at all. I missed this part of learning. I see that there are many here with many types of magic.

This is what I propose. Once every seven days, on your Sunday for felicity, at [big open space on the station] we will gather and at least one among our number will tell the others about their magic. We will sit in a great circle and listen, as we would in Privkat.

Who is willing to take a turn? You do not have to be an elder, and it does not matter if nobody else here has the same talents that you do. You can demonstrate something practical and teach it to others who can learn, or you can tell us about the origins of your magic and how it works, or tell us about the history of your people and what magic has meant to them.

Everyone is welcome to join us and to listen, so long as they are respectful of others.

If you would like to speak more than once, and teach us different things, you can. If you would like a regular time to teach, you can have that. If you are interested, please tell me your name and each topic you would like to share with us, and I will organise the meetings accordingly.

I'm Zatanna, and I have some experience teaching magic but I'd also love to learn.

I primarily cast through what we call 'logomancy' which is just a more academic way of saying I cast through speaking my spells backwards. I'm skilled in elemental control, including light, darkness, time and reality. Psychokinesis. Healing. The list goes on, but will there a set of rules on what might be taught?

Greetings, Zatanna! Wanting to both teach and learn is perfect. It's what I hope to do myself.

As I don't yet know what everyone is capable of, I don't want to set out rules that might exclude anyone who wants to join us. So far the only requirement is that if you are leading a class, you need to have some sort of magic. Everyone is welcome to attend.

What might be a good idea for your magic is to have several classes over time, so that you can share a different skill in each. There is going to be at least one day set aside for elemental magic in various forms, and I know a class on healing would be very popular. You could start with an explanation of logomancy and how it works, perhaps. If some people are capable of it, then your next class could be to show us one category of logomantic spell, like healing, and let others try it out. If it turns out that it isn't possible for others to do magic as you do, you could simply give us a demonstration. But really it is whatever you feel comfortable with.

I know a little about bridging gaps in magical traditions so that shouldn't be a problem.

Would anything strictly offensive be off the table? I'm not eager to teach novices or even masters something like eldritch blast, but at the same time it wouldn't hurt to be prepared for the next door.

I think it is an extremely sensible idea, but I worry about repercussions if we do it openly. Maybe we could begin with self-defense classes, and move quietly to offensive magic once any observers with concerns have satisfied themselves that there is nothing to worry about, and stopped watching?

It sounds like a good idea. A part of me wants to know who would have concerns about us learning to better protect ourselves, but maybe I'm just being paranoid. Everyone here seems to come together when there's something wrong, disapproval of magic or not.

I haven't met anyone here who disapproves of magic, yet, but I know how quickly things can change. We'll see who stays to watch, and whether it looks like innocent curiosity or not.
