I guess I should get out with it now, since I'm not thinking clearly these days. I don't remember the name I was given, but certain people throughout history have started to call me Adam or Methos. So I go with those, even if the irony's not lost on me. I'm five thousand years old, if not more. My diaries only go back so far, back to the time when people discovered the written word in all its various forms. Makes sense, yes?

The things you should know about me include the following;

I'm not looking to get hitched, nor am I looking to date anyone- man or woman. Why? Because my dearest Alexa died only a month ago. Should a former ex, wife or husband of mine show up, I'll deal with it from there. But honestly, if the Island knows what is good for itself and all the inhabitants here, there shouldn't be a sudden influx of all of Methos' exes, wives and husbands here. I've had enough of some of my worst nightmares coming true, thank you very much.

I love my beer. The reasons for it are quite self explanatory, although the concoction was quite different from what is served nowadays. Think Egypt. Think slave. Think Pyramid. But I can definitely assure you that no aliens built these. And I always get a little nervous when archaeologists have discovered a new mummy. Stop. You never know who you might unearth.

I sleep with my sword under my bed. I always sleep with one eye open. As much as approach me when I'm asleep and you will feel my sword against your neck. So, do yourselves a favor and knock. I'm also not opposed to using handguns.

So there you go.

I think I'll be going for a walk now. It's a rather beautiful day, isn't it?

Perhaps. But time heals all wounds. And time is something I unarguably have.

I suppose that is true.

But I cannot imagine that wounds are pleasant, no matter how much time you have to heal from them.

I'm a big boy. Give me beer, some books. I'll be fine.

Of course you will be fine. But fine is a long way from well.

I've had a rough few months, but I'll be fine soon enough.

This island seems quiet enough.

But...perhaps not quite in a peaceful sense.

Well, let me put it this way- my past doesn't come back to haunt me in an extremely unpleasant way.

You on the other hand, are a very welcome reminder. I loved my years in Greece.

I wish that I could say the same - although I suppose my years were different than yours?

I studied with Plato, dined with Aristotle, won marathons and had a statue erected in my honor. So basically yes. Good years.

Yes. I suppose things were always better for men, and you sound like you were a special man, indeed.

I'm just a nameless man who managed to shake hands with history every once in a while. It was only later that I realized the significance of them. Not everybody makes it into the history books, after all.

I knew Achilles. I suppose that was my only claim to fame.

Because of Achilles, and Agamemnon, Odysseus and Hector, no doubt.

There's many kinds of bravery, Briseis. And not all of them are born on the battlefield.

I was not brave. I did what I had to do to survive, because I was too weak to end my suffering.

There's bravery in staying alive, you know. Even if you considered that weak.

Is there? I considered it weakness, bearing the pains that I was forced to bear, giving up my very autonomy just so I could awake on the morrow and do it all over again.

Getting up in the morning over and over again, fully knowing what to expect and never giving up by means of - let's say, suicide, that's bravery.

I think you remind me of my second wife. Or is it third-

You have had many wives? I had only one husband. He was not cruel, but I didn't love him, either. He was nearly fifty when we married, and was angry that I did not give him a child in the first year of our marriage. He never treated me the same after that.

And then, of course, there was Achilles. And after that, I shall never have another husband - of that, I am quite sure.

I've never been able to father children. That might be a rather good thing, considering I've had 68 wives. At that rate, half the world would've been related to me

Not all men are like Mynes and Achilles. Or at the very least, they actually grow up at one point in their lives.

I, perhaps, cannot bear children. I don't know. It seems unlikely, in that I have not had any yet.

I should hope that they are not. It seems terrible to say it, but Achilles caused many deaths with his temper-tantrum over me.

And do you regret that?

Well, even if I've been guilty of claiming women as war prizes in the past, I finally know better now. He should bloody well grow up and be told that you're not a commodity.

That, and I know his weak spot. And I have a sword I know to use extremely well.
