I hope I am not bothering anyone by posting this, but I am concerned over things that have happened tonight and thought I would ask. I know I am from a very different time than the rest of you, but it appears that I am not quite sure how things work here.

Is it considered wrong now to offer hospitality?

In my day, it was a great wrong to be inhospitable to someone who was in your land, or in your kingdom. Wars were caused - and averted - by such things. And yet, when I offered hospitality to a troubled man tonight I was insulted grievously. Have I done wrong? I hope I do not now live in a world where it is considered improper to be hospitable and kind to a fellow traveler.

Who was it that insulted you?

I perhaps shouldn't say?

I don't wish to be petty, or to anger her unnecessarily.

I'm only asking because there are people here that are intentionally rude just because they think it's fun. So depending on who it was, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

I...don't think she is one of those people.

When I have spoken to her before, she has been very kind to me.

Maybe she was just having a bad day, then. It happens sometimes.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it. You do what feels right for you and don't worry about anybody else. If your custom is to be hospitable, then be hospitable. Anybody that doesn't like it, can deal with it.

Bridget is a very sweet girl, though. I don't think she's the type to be impolite for the sake of it.

[Mr. Stark]

But she suggested that me offering this man food was little different than me offering him my body. Although she used far more vulgar words than that.

Ignore them. Feminism is a lovely thing, but the line should be drawn at cussing each other out for not adhering to your own standards.

I wish to fit into these times, but I cannot do it so very quickly. I do not always know what is the proper thing to do.

I say, do whatever you want. You'll find your way to it.

And in case I wasn't clear with my comment above, I was joking.

Bitten by many fleas, a fool put out the lamp, saying: - "You can'’t see me now!"

No, I know. I wouldn't worry about it, people here can be very, very touchy about the strangest of things. But see- she's not upset. You didn't do anything wrong.

Briseis, I apologize. It was wrong of me to criticize you for offering hospitality to a stranger in need. I would use the Irrational Pregnant Woman excuse except that it would imply I wasn't in control of myself and I was.

So please accept this public apology.

I am not angry at you, Miss Bridget, I simply feared I was somehow doing the wrong thing. I do not wish to look a fool here, and I do not know the customs of the day.

No, it was just simple kindness. You did nothing wrong and I was the foolish one.

Before coming here I was one of the people responsible for leading my tribe. We had a newcomer who had been treated very badly for years and the first thing she did was to move in with a man who continued to treat her poorly, despite mine and other people's efforts to ensure she knew she was free now, and there was nothing I could do about it. When I saw you were making the new Peter dinner, I remembered that experience and I suppose I took out on you. That was wrong of me.

And please, just call me Bridget. There's no need for formality on my account.

I am certainly not moving in with him, and Mr. Peter has never treated me poorly. I am sorry if my actions upset you, I truly did not intend for them to do so. He was simply new, and confused, and hungry, and I offered him hospitality.

That truly was all, Miss Bridget.

Thank you, and I believe you. I was just upset with him already for his attitude and then you went and made dinner for him, and I was irrationally upset about it.

Not your fault, mine. God I'll be happy when these two are out...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering kindness- in fact, I'm glad that you did. I would have, myself, but had other things I needed to take care of.

I'm sorry that others spoke so harshly to you about it.

I only wanted him to feel welcome, and as if he were not alone. And he needed something warm to eat; men are always nicer when they've had something to eat.

I would never have thought you would. I do believe it's quite possible that men and women can behave in a friendly manner without thinking about what the other looks like naked. Believe me, if you weren't, I'd probably be offering to bring him food myself.
