Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:adam young, dean winchester, lucifer, meri winchester (oc)

WHO: Dean Winchester, Lucifer, & Meri Winchester (with a cameo appearance by Adam Young)
WHAT: Lucifer is his usual "genial" self. Dean isn't really in the mood to play nice. Unfortunately, Meri ends up in the middle.
WHEN: October 15th; Evening
WHERE: The Communal Lodgings
RATING: R (violence, callous disregard for human life, character death)
STATUS: COMPLETE

Lucifer had plenty of practice in sitting and waiting. More than his fair share, he would be willing to say, and while he wasn't too keen on just sitting around and allowing whatever machinations were behind this plan of his Father's unfurl themselves naturally, he didn't seem to have too much of a choice in that matter. The people who tried to leave the city only seemed to end up right back where they started, and he wasn't about to risk being blasted into the nexus of nowhere just because he couldn't sit still. Besides, there were plenty of things to poke at here to keep him entertained. Adam had been fun, taunting him and threatening until he'd finally succumb to Lucifer's wishes. Mini golf had been enjoyable in and of itself, but Adam's terrified face as he was forced to play each round had just been the icing on the deliciously wicked cake.

And now, Lucifer was going for the ice cream chaser that was having a go at Dean Winchester.

The man seemed different from the last time he'd spoken to him. Harder, more weary. But really, as difficult as the varying degrees of broken little boy in Dean were to tell apart, Lucifer could still spot that there was something that had happened that he didn't have the knowledge of. And Lucifer was quite intent on filling that gap in the best way that he knew how: whacking the pinata until it breaks.

Sidling up next to the elder Winchester outside the communal building, unsurprised by his seeming unease at being cooped up with so many people at once, Lucifer shot the man a playful grin as he pushed himself in uncomfortably close, just drawing the line at throwing an arm around Dean's shoulders. He was taking a risk as it was, getting within arms length of the man. He wasn't about to give him something to hold onto in order to save an angel killing blade in between his ribs without him being able to twist away. "Dean, Dean, Dean. No baby brother, I see. Did you lose him, too?"

Meri had been outside with Gabi and Jack, because she was mostly sure that babies were supposed to get fresh air sometimes and she knew kids were. Sticking close to the building where they were staying, she hadn't been paying attention to any one particular thing at first. Sure, she'd noticed the two guys milling about, and had someone known they weren't really being nice, based on their body language. But it wasn't until one picked the other one up and started choking him that Meri felt any real desire to look at what was going on.

And then she felt compelled to do much more than look.

She wasn't sure why. She would never be able to explain it, not if she tried for a hundred years, but she felt like she had to put a stop to it. She didn't have her shotgun, though. She'd actually thought it was safe. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Eyes narrowing, partially out of frustration at herself, Meri clenched her hands into fists and glanced over at her brother.

"Jack," she said quietly yet difinitively. "I need to do something. Stay here, with Gabi. I'll be back before you know it." Then she tossed him a reassuring grin before steeling her expression, turning back to the two men fighting a good ten feet away, and marching directly up to them. Without pause, she reached up and grabbed the man's arm who was choking the other one.

"Let him go!" she demanded shrilly. "Stop it right now."

Was it stupid? Absolutely. Meri was appalled at her own actions even as she did it. Yet she couldn't seem to help herself. She had to get the guy to stop hurting the other guy. She just couldn't allow that to happen.

Jack couldn't do more than stare in shock as his sister went off to confront two grown-ups who were fighting. It wasn't that he was all that surprised she was doing it, because it was Meri and nothing she did surprised him - especially if it was reckless and probably kind of stupid and definitely likely to get her hurt. He wanted so badly to follow her, but he had Gabi to think about and he couldn't exactly leave her on her own or drag her into a dangerous situation. So all he could do was watch his sister go and silently hope that she didn't get herself hurt too badly. Or at all, but that seemed a little overly optimistic.

Dean, meanwhile, was laughing as much as he could with the air slowly being choked out of him. It was a bitter sound, devoid of humor, and his hands were reaching for the weapon from Purgatory even as he gasped out a response to Lucifer's words. "You've got no idea what you're talking about," he growled. "I would never hurt them. No matter what. I've had plenty of people tell me Sam was a monster. Hell, they told me I ought to kill him to stop you. But I would never do that. And it's the same with Adam." Except he'd left Adam in the pit, hadn't he. He'd left Sam there eventually, but he hadn't even tried to save Adam.

Before he could let self-loathing consume him, or stab Lucifer in his smug fucking face, a kid's voice piped up, demanding that Lucifer let him go. It was a shock, that a child was getting in the middle of this, and Dean's eyes widened. No matter how much Purgatory had changed him, he wasn't about to let a kid get hurt because of him. He had a responsibility to protect people, and he was going to do that as best he could. Besides, there was something about this kid that sent a surge of protectiveness through him. He didn't know what it was, but he wanted to keep her safe. It shocked him, and it took him a moment to speak.

"Get the hell out of here, kid," he snapped as loudly as he could. He couldn't let her get hurt. He didn't know why it was so important to protect this kid, but it was. "Go on, get away from here. I'll be fine, just run. Now."

Lucifer was a bit stunned by the tiny intruder, so stunned that his grip slackened on Dean, dropping the man back to his feet even as he pressed his hand back forward into Dean's chest to make sure that he couldn't run away. Glaring down at the girl that had interrupted, Lucifer couldn't help but feel an odd swell of pride and the urge to declare her feat of involving herself in the situation impressive before he flicked the feelings away. There was nothing in him that gave him any reason to feel sentimental towards humanity much less tiny, loud mouthed humanity, and there wasn't any reason that this should feel any different. But it did. There was something tickling at the back of his mind that he couldn't name that was telling him this was different, so while, normally, he may have killed her in an instant for such insolence, Lucifer merely narrowed his eyes at the girl.

"Back off, kid. This isn't your problem," Lucifer hissed before punctuating the statement with a flick of his hand. It was enough to bat her away from them, to get her outside of their realm of space, and likely enough to send her bowling head over heels and bruise more than a few things, possibly even break something if she landed the right away, but it was a pulled punch. It was a pulled punch, and even Dean would be able to see that, and the realization hit Lucifer like a ton of bricks descending from the heavens.

"Don't think your little girlfriend is going to save you so easily," Lucifer said, grasping Dean's jacket and tugging him forward before reaching to try and find whatever weapons he had on him. He was a Winchester. He would have to have at least one. "You might be a hunter, but I'm the one with the edge in this situation what with you stripped of all your fancy little tricks. Shortstack over there has no idea what she's getting herself into. What do you say I show her? Maybe a little demonstration for what you'll be suffering later?"

One minute, Meri had been about to tell the guy getting choked that she wasn't leaving then, the next minute, she was leaving but certainly not because she wanted to. Being flung head over heels, bouncing off the pavement a few times, she finally landed in a heap. Everything hurt and, for one second, she honestly felt like crying. Then she heard the man running his mouth and got mad, instead.

Climbing back to her feet, she ignored the cut under her eye and the ache in her right wrist that told her it might even be broken, Meri narrowed her eyes at the man who had flung her somehow. Then she looked around, found a few rocks lying about, picked them up, and immediately threw one at him.

She was a good aim, of that there was no question. The rock smacked into his temple and Meri shouted as soon as it'd touched him. "Leave." She threw another rock, and shouted some more. "Him." Yet another rock. She raised her voice a bit, to put more emphasis on what she was saying. "Alone!"

Seriously, what the fuck was wrong with Lucifer? Flinging a kid around with no regard for her safety? Okay, that was sort of a dumb thought considering the guy was the fucking devil. Dean couldn't help but be concerned for the kid, and he pushed against Lucifer's hold, forgetting all about going to his weapon. He was too concerned about keeping Lucifer's focus on him and off the kid so that she could hopefully get away. If he died, so what? He'd done that already, twice if you counted Purgatory. That sure as shit didn't count as being alive as far as he could tell.

"Leave the kid alone," he snapped. "Your problem's with me. Not her. She's just a dumb kid...got no idea what she's getting herself into. Or what? Don't think you can handle me? Got to focus on the kids because that's all you can take? People who are too scared to fight back and little girls? Oh yeah, you're really fucking scary. Come on, and show me what you've got already! I'm waiting here. Your brothers must be really fucking pathetic if you took them down. Or maybe they let you kill them to avoid having to listen to your whining"

He had hopes that his taunting would keep Lucifer's anger focused at him, but then the goddamn idiot kid had to come back and start throwing rocks at the devil. He had to admire her guts, and her aim too, but that was buried under the surge of fear and dread. "What the hell, kid?" he shouted. "I told you to get out of here. Are you insane? What the fuck's wrong with you? Get the fuck out of here, right now!"

Lucifer had just been planning on having some fun, toying around with the kid a bit to freak Dean out before he became a pathetic little mess and offered himself up as an exchange to spare her. Because that was just the type of mortal that he was, wasn't it? Lucifer had been planning on doing that, and then the rock smacked into his temple. As he jerked around, another hit him right between the eyes and another to follow up after that smashed against his nose. Had he been pathetic and mortal like they were, he likely would have had more than a few dents by now, but it didn't really matter to Lucifer that he barely had even a scratch. She had pushed far past a line that should have been crossed.

She had wounded his pride.

"You should have listened," Lucifer said, shoving Dean back away from him and turning his focus entirely on the young girl. His brain was searing, something telling him that he shouldn't do this, but Lucifer never listened to his brain when he was angry. When he was good and properly angry, things just happened, forethought or not, and as he raised his hand and dragged the girl towards him, eyes narrowed and jaw clenched, it was obvious to see that something was about to happen.

"You should have listened to the Winchester," Lucifer said, twisted his hand as he pulled even more on his telekinesis, pushing it beyond pulling her towards him and into her form, crushing her body in on itself. "He knew what I could do, after all. Tiny, pathetic little ant that you are for me to crush under my boot, you should have listened," Lucifer hissed. "But," He paused, pressing in further, relishing in the snap of bones and what would soon come as the sight of all oxygen being choked out of her, "no matter. At least you can be a proper little example of what happens when people talk out of turn with me."

Meri wanted to tell the man that she couldn't just run, that something was making her stay. Demanding she get involved. She wanted to explain it but, there was no time. One minute she was facing down the jerk of a guy who'd hurt her, and the next pain exploded inside of her unlike anything she'd ever known before. Her eyes bugged slightly and she gave a soft grunt of pain.

A few seconds ticked by, his words nothing but a roaring sound in her ears. She was falling, then floating, eyes rolling back in her head. The pain had dulled, and in its place was an understanding that she was going to be just fine. Even if she knew, deep down inside, that she wouldn't be, because she was pretty sure she was dying and that meant leaving Jack and Gabi alone. She cried out, or tried to, but there was no sound. For a brief instant, though, the pain was back as she felt her knees give way.

Then there was nothing but darkness.

Dean stared, frozen in shock, as Lucifer killed the girl without the slightest hesitation. He knew the guy was fucked up, he was the devil after all, but somehow he hadn't thought he would just kill a kid like it was nothing. It had been stupid to think that, but he had, and now he felt a sick clenching in his gut. Bile rose in his throat and he fought it back as guilt clawed at him. This was his fault. He'd provoked Lucifer, he'd goaded him into this fight as surely as Lucifer had him and maybe even more so, and now a little girl was dead because of him. He could barely breathe he felt so sick from it. He just stared at her tiny body, feeling shame wash over him.

Jack, meanwhile, felt as though the world had dropped out from under him. Meri had yelled at that man and now she was on the ground, unmoving. He was ten but he wasn't stupid, and he knew she was dead. His twin sister was dead. Part of him wanted to run over to her, to shout at that man until he fixed it. Until he gave Meri back. But he was frozen in place. If he went over there, the man might kill him too. Or Gabi. Or both of them. As much as he hated it, as much as every part of him was screaming at the outrage of his sister being taken from him, he just stood there with Gabi. He had to be responsible. He was all Gabi had. The thought hit him hard. He was all she had. And she was all he had. He couldn't remember his parents. Meri was gone. He was alone, apart from his infant sister.

Dean fixed Lucifer with a furious glare, still not quite able to process what had happened beyond the wash of shame and guilt. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" he shouted. "She was just a kid. A fucking stupid kid, sure, and one who got in way over her head, but she was still just a kid. You didn't have to do that! Jesus Christ...there is something seriously broken inside you if you can just...fucking hell. She couldn't have been more than twelve. Probably younger. And you just killed her. What the fuck." He wasn't even thinking, just railing against the devil. If he'd been pissed on behalf of Sam, on behalf of Adam, he was livid now. That girl hadn't done anything to deserve dying like that. Without even considering what he was doing, he pulled out his weapon and took a wild swing at Lucifer.

Something seriously broken inside of him, was it? Yes. Lucifer supposed there was. As much as most people might have been happy to point to his actions as a giant temper tantrum, to say that he was acting out of little more than petty jealousy and wounded pride, to Lucifer, it was much more than that. It was a broken trust, a manipulation, and a betrayal that seared deep into him and tormented his very being. It provided a deep rage, a desire to get back what he deemed to be his, and while yes, that was all very horrible and selfish of him, Lucifer couldn't help but feel as though he was entitled. He had been here first. He was the one who had been scorned and cast aside. For Lucifer, all this was was one more human feeling the pain that had been leveled on him a thousand fold.

At least, for them, there was some release.

Before Lucifer could respond, though, Dean was lashing out, weapon drawn, but there was no calculation to the move, no intent behind it other than pure anger, and while Lucifer could appreciate that, it made it far too easy to shift out of the way, a playful little smile crossing his features. "Aw, you think I would really make it that easy for you?" Lucifer asked, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he chided Dean. "And here I thought better of you, Dean. Is it my turn now?" Lucifer asked, raising a hand to Dean and freezing him in place. "Because I'm just getting warmed up."

"That's enough."

The voice that spoke was young, clearly belonging to a child. Unlike Meri, however, something in his tone demanded compliance. Adam stepped through the doorway leading out of the communal building, his blue eyes locked onto Lucifer. "Leave him alone." There was a tremor in his words, a slight quivering as he struggled to keep his own emotions in check.

Hands shoved deep into the pockets of his worn out blue jeans, he calmly approached the duo. A glance toward Meri, however brief, caused a shadow to pass across his features. He turned his unblinking gaze back onto the fallen Archangel. "You didn't have to kill her," he said quietly. There was something there, something in his tone, that made it clear Lucifer shouldn't have killed her. Not just because it was awful but because he was going to regret it, now.

"You just don't got any respect for anybody," he tacked on severely, pinning Lucifer with a look before glancing to Dean. "And you shouldn't have let him get you all riled up, neither," he chastised. Clearly, though, his issue was with his father and Adam quickly looked back to the Devil.

"Way I see it, you need to learn a lesson. You need to figure out that you can't just go around, doing whatever you want to do, just on account of being able to do it." Adam's eyes flashed as he slowly smiled in a very knowing sort of way. "Way I see it, you could stand to not be able to do none of that stuff. Then you could see what it's like, being picked on just because folks can."

Dean was pretty sure Lucifer was about to kill him. He was actually almost positive of it. And he'd just about resigned himself to that, what with the way he was frozen and unable to move, when another kid's voice rang out. And Dean would have taken the slow, agonizing death Lucifer probably had planned over another child getting themselves killed because of him. What the hell was with these little bastards, tossing themselves at the fucking devil? And for a complete stranger? Were they insane? They needed to leave this shit to the grown-ups not act out tiny death wishes. The kid had to have seen what happened to that girl. What could possibly make him put himself in the middle of this?

Dean wanted to shout at him. To tell him to run away before the same thing happened to him that happened to the girl. But he couldn't, held in place by Lucifer. He was motionless, but on the inside he was freaking out. He couldn't just stand here and watch as yet another child was destroyed because Lucifer was batshit fucking insane. He'd rather Lucifer kill him than do that, and the problem was the devil knew that. For all Dean knew, the guy would kill this kid too just to add to the guilt he was feeling. Just to punish him for not falling in line. After all, death was far from the worst thing you could do to Dean. And Hell was all about finding the most rewarding sorts of torture, the kinds that hit the hardest. He'd learned that lesson well enough, and everyone knew Lucifer was the best when it came to the skills of Hell.

And then the weirdest thing happened. The kid spoke, lecturing Lucifer and telling him how he didn't have to do things just because he could, telling him he could stand to be powerless. But that wasn't the weird part. Some kids were just odd, too damn perceptive for their own good, and heck...the kid was right. Lucifer probably could stand to be taken down a peg or two. No, the weird part was how, when the kid spoke, it was like Dean could feel something. He couldn't quite explain it but it was like there was something tangible to the boy's words. All Dean could do was stare, wondering what he was because there was nothing human about that.

And then he could move. He was no longer held in place by Lucifer's power and he could move again. It was like the kid's words had actually had some kind of affect, which was just plain crazy, and it was all he could do to just stare. "Okay," he said after a moment, still stuck on the fact that some kid had yelled at Lucifer and now he was free of the guy's power. If he hadn't been so confused, he probably would have made a move to attack Lucifer again, but the fact was he was just too stunned to do anything but watch and try to work out what had just happened. "What the fu...uh...heck was that?" What? He wasn't supposed to swear in front of kids.

"Don't you dare," Lucifer hissed, but it was already too late. He didn't know exactly what Adam had done, but he could feel his power ebbing away from him before he had even had the time to protest. Narrowing his eyes at Adam, though not at all dumb enough to actually try and attack the kid when he was fully charged and Lucifer, himself, was clearly not, Lucifer just dropped his hand away from Dean and clenched his fist, taking a large step back away from the two of them, placing some distance between himself and the potential dangers currently within arms length.

Not that he really expected Adam to do anything. No. The kid was, regrettably, very much not the violent type. Dean, on the other hand, once he figured out just what had been done would most definitely take the opportunity to sink whatever blade he had on hand into Lucifer just to make a point that he could now.

"Whatever you did, Adam, undo it. Undo it now. Daddy doesn't have time to play right now. He's right in the middle of some important smiting. So be a good little boy and turn it all back on."

Adam ignored Dean for the moment, instead pinning Lucifer with a look that clearly said he wasn't at all interested in what was being said. "No, I don't reckon I'll be doing that," he replied with a slight shake of his head. "I reckon you can be human, for a while." He paused.

"It's not forever," he added reasonably. As though that was going to make it all better. Or maybe just to add insult to injury. It was difficult to tell. He was the son of the Devil, after all. Still. He felt only right, pointing out that it wasn't all bad. "Just until you've learned you can't go around picking on folks just because you can. That's all."

Finally, he glanced toward Dean. "Hey there," he said with a bright smile. "Name's Adam. Adam Young. Nice to meetcha. I don't think he'll be bothering you anymore, so you can go do whatever it is you were going to do and leave him be." He paused, considered, and added, "Not that I'm saying you have to go. You can hang around. It don't much matter to me either two ways."

Daddy? Holy shit, this kid was the son of the devil. Because it was pretty obvious that this was different than those demons who called Lucifer their father. When the fuck had that happened and why hadn't anyone told him? Seriously. The devil having a kid, especially one who actually seemed to be against the shit his father was doing, was the kind of thing someone like him kind of wanted to know about. Dean just watched the two of them, staring in blatant shock, taking in what could only be called irritated whining from Lucifer and calm replies from the kid. Then it hit him. Lucifer was human. He could be killed. It didn't matter that he technically wasn't a monster any more. The things he'd done didn't deserve forgiveness.

But then the kid - antichrist...or Adam he guessed - was talking to him. And Dean got the sense if he hauled off and murdered Lucifer when Adam was trying to teach him a lesson, the pint-sized powerhouse would have something to say about that. And Dean might have been kind of dumb at times, but he wasn't stupid enough to face off against the kind of kid who had the power to turn Lucifer human. Besides, this was going to last a while. Nothing said he couldn't take the devil out later if he provoked it. A plan in mind, Dean gave Adam a nod. "Nice to meet you too, Adam," he said. "Got a brother with that name. And...thanks. I'm gonna head on, but if you need anything, you just give me a call, okay?"

Leaving the former angel, now human Lucifer with Adam, he made his way over to the little girl's body, staring down at it. Like hell was he gonna leave her alone out here after she was killed looking out for him. Picking her up gently, he spared a glance at the other nearby child - a boy holding a baby - and tilted his head toward the building they were all staying in. "Come on, kid," he said. "We should get inside." They'd need to figure out something to do for the girl, he just wasn't quite sure what yet.

Lucifer figured he should be grateful, grateful that Adam had made it rather clear to Dean that he wasn't to be killed and that Dean hadn't decided that trying any way (at the moment, at least) was worth it, but he didn't feel anything even remotely resembling gratitude at the moment. Instead, he was glancing between Dean and Adam with a quiet fury and apprehensive raising in his gut. He was human. He was the thing that he loathed the most in this entire existence, and he was just going to have to live with it until his misbehaving son decided otherwise.

Since when was giving anyone more power than himself a good idea? It seemed like the worst idea ever at the moment. Maybe Father had been right in making sure that there was a clear pecking order in their birth order...even if Lucifer would forever be annoyed that meant Michael could keep him well under his thumb given the opportunity.

"I suppose just asking nicely isn't going to work, huh?" Lucifer asked, turning his gaze back to Adam as Dean left with heavy annoyance tainting the words. He wanted to lash out at Adam, do something, anything, but Lucifer knew that if he tried, this would likely only end up worse. Not that he could think of anything much worse than being human.

Maybe being a dog. But at least he could bite people then.

Adam shook his head, watching as Dean carried the dead girl away. The sight of her only made him even more sure he'd done the right thing. He looked back to Lucifer, a decisive gleam in his eyes. "You need to learn," he said in a matter-of-fact way. His hands slid back into the pockets of his jeans as he turned away and began making his way down the walkway leading to the street.

Pausing as he reached the sidewalk, Adam glanced back up and over at him. His expression was an unreadable one, his body language completely casual. He clearly wasn't bothered by how this was affecting Lucifer. Slowly, he arched an eyebrow and tacked on, "Try being nice. Maybe, if you're lucky, you'll find somebody willing to help you out."

Then he turned and headed away from the building, wanting to go for a walk and clear his head. Grown-ups, he decided sometimes, could be so stupid. Especially when they had lots of power. And now a girl was dead. Briefly, Adam thought of willing her back but knew, somehow, he'd get in big trouble for that one. So this was just going to have to do.

Unfortunately, he doubted it would stick. Someone, at some point, was going to kill Lucifer. He was all but sure of it. It was just a question of when.
