WHO: Thor Odinson & Loki Laufeyson
WHAT: The brothers unite... and most likely argue. Loudly.
WHERE: Outside the Library.
WHEN: After this this
RATING: PG?
PROGRESS: In Progress

Loki was far from happy to learn that his brother, Thor Odinson, had arrived in the mysterious city known as Colligo. While he did not hate Thor, no far from it, he loved his brother dearly, there was a great amount of discontent between the two. Or, perhaps it was merely on Loki's side. He was not jealous of Thor himself, but of the attention, applause, and love that all of Asgard bestowed on the once vain and selfish man. Thor was the king that all of Asgard wanted, which was fine by Loki, he did not want to be king. All he had wanted was recognition and to be his own man, powerful and respected, even adored, by others. Instead he was "Thor's brother", the tag along, the one who had to manipulate to get what he wanted, and was hated for it.

While this realm, this Colligo, was far from what Loki wanted, he was content with the idea that none of the other Asgardians were there. No snide looks, no cold remarks, no anger for making an elaborate scheme to allow the Frost Giants into Asgard so that he could destroy them. A plot that he had never intended, but had to craft because of his brother's recklessness. Yet, Loki knew the rest of Asgard would never see it that way. He would be the brother who betrayed his father, his King, and his brother. In Colligo, there was no such worries, and he was pleased with his position, even if the mortals in the city were annoying (he did not mind the immortals so much). Except, now his brother had come to the city. While Loki could admit there would have been far worse Asgardians to arrive, he was still unhappy that it was his brother that appeared.

Still, they were brothers, by bond if not by blood. Loki would not let his brother wander the streets lost, making a fool out of himself. While his brother had changed, Loki knew that there was still a streak of arrogance and pride within his brother. It was part of who he was. And so, dressed in mortal clothing - similar to the fashion he wore when visiting Thor on Midgard - Loki approached the Library. His hands were hidden by the folds of the coat, his hair slicked back as always, and green eyes searching for his brother.

Other realm travel was something that Thor had discounted entirely thanks to the destruction of the Bifrost. Without it, the Asgardians had no option but to remain within the eternal city. Not that they had any reason to leave. With Lefauy dead and Jotunheim in tatters thanks to his brother's schemes, whatever threat there had been to Asgard within the Nine Realms was now successfully crippled beyond any measure they had been before. With their king dead and presumably no heir to succeed him, they would be working to reconstruct their own realm for eons before considering taking on any other again. It was ironic, really, in Thor's mind that Loki's actions, something which the All-Father did not seem to appreciate in the least, were the very thing that were keeping them safe in the aftermath of this conflict.

But those thoughts were all a blink in his eye now with this new situation facing him. However it had been done, other realm travel had been accomplished in some way, and not only that, his brother that he had thought dead was present as well. To Thor, it was hope and far more than he had had in some time.

Spotting his brother approaching the library, looking very much like the average Midgardian moral to the unknowing eye, Thor beamed as it hit him that this wasn't simply some ridiculous charade. While the words and the voice had all rung true, it had been hard for Thor to believe until setting sight on his brother in the flesh. It took every ounce of willpower within him not to allow the child within him to race down the stairs and embrace Loki out of sheer relief. Instead, he stood at the top of the stairs, hands clasped behind his back and grinning like an idiot, until Loki had reached him.

Loki stopped at the bottom of the stairs and looked up at his older brother. He purposely kept the distance between them, as if it was to be a metaphor about their relationship. At least, with how Loki saw it; being forever in the shadow of Thor, being someone of less worth. In all fairness truth, Loki knew that was not how Thor saw him. Still, the recent events had tarnished his trust in his brother. Loki hoped that out of anyone, Thor would be the one to understand why he did what he did. It would seem to others that Loki would have wanted his brother dead, but that was far from the truth. Loki wanted his brother out of the way so he could, like always, clean up his mess.

With a deep breath, Loki raised his head slightly as if he were still a welcomed son in their father's house.

"Brother," he said, "how long has it been since we last saw each other? Days? Weeks? Months? Traveling through realms without the Bifrost can be rather... disorientating."

Days. Weeks. Months. They all blended into themselves back in Asgard especially when one's mind was so distracted with grief and worry and surrounded by celebration. But all of that didn't seem to matter right now as he peered down at his brother, alive, intact, and as deadpan as ever. His resistance failed as soon as it became obvious to Thor that Loki was going to stay stubbornly at the bottom of the stairs in order to keep a general distance between them. In a flash, Thor was down the stairs, wrapping his brother in an embrace that was coupled with a laugh, "Does it matter, Loki? You're alive! However long it's been, you're alive!" Thor exclaimed, pulling back and grasping his brother firmly on the shoulders as he beamed and admired him for a moment before yanking him back into a bone-crushing hug. "I feared we had lost you for good."

It had been one of the reasons that Thor had found it so difficult to be around his friends after the events. Not only did he have serious doubts about himself that they didn't seem to share, they almost unanimously believed that Loki's absence - they had always been very, very careful not to use the word 'death' in reference to it while within his presence - was a positive development for Asgard while Thor missed his brother immensely and believed that Loki's absence would only harm them should war return to Asgard. For what Loki lacked in brute strength, he made up for in brilliant strategic thinking, one aspect of battle which even the Warriors Three could not match him in. But right now, none of that was a concern. Sif, Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg weren't here, and Loki was. If anything, this would give him a chance to make up for himself without them insisting that he had nothing to apologize for.

With the bone-crushing hug, Loki sucked in a breath and braced himself. While it had been sometime since Thor had shown such affection, the reflexes were not lost to Loki. He shut his eyes for a moment, forcing himself not to break into a smile. No, he was supposed to be indignant and cold towards his brother, not enjoying the fact that they had been reunited without the cold gaze of Thor's friends and their father. The All-Father.

He went to speak but ended up shutting his eyes again and bracing himself for another hug. His eyes flicked upwards as he let out an inward sigh, reaching up and giving his brother a firm pat on the back. He allowed himself to show some manner of affection, even if it was small, he knew it wouldn't be lost on his brother. Thor knew him far too well... and yet, Thor didn't know him at all it seemed.

"By "we", you mean just you." Loki muttered and pulled back enough to look at the blond man. "You've no reason to hide the distaste that Asgard holds for me. We both know it to be as plain as day."

Thor tried to mask his reaction at Loki's statement but concealing his emotions had never been high on Thor's list of skills so the pained wince on his features was clearly visible before he struggled for something substantial to argue against the point. Sadly, there wasn't really anything that could be to combat a statement that was in majority true, "Mother misses you as well," Thor said, knowing that it was perhaps the least bit of reassurance that there possibly could have been. Had there been anyone else who would have missed Loki other than himself, it would have been their mother.

"They simply don't understand, Loki," Thor said, reaching out and settling a hand reassuringly on his brother's shoulder. Thor knew because he hadn't understood, either. He had been a warrior. He had thought with a warrior's heart and not what little mind he was capable of. So much would have been spared if he had simply paid his brother's opinions the attention that he had deserved. It wasn't as though Loki hadn't tried his best to make him see sense on most every occasion. "None of us did. And I'm sorry for that."

"They do not understand because they are Asgardians." Loki explained, meaning no malice behind it, simply a point: that he was not Asgardian. He had not told Thor what he truly was, he had only hinted at it. Not that he believed it would change their brotherhood, but in a way, Thor most certainly deserved to know. Loki kept far too many secrets from his brother as it was.

Loki gave a nod of understanding towards his brother, half turning as he continued. "Asgardians are taught that strength is what wins battles. The forget that minds do as well... therefore, of course a younger brother who cannot wield a sword in battle is of less measure than his elder brother who can wield the mighty Mjölnir. What they truly cannot understand, brother, is the fact that Asgard would have been destroyed by the Frost Giants. Yet, they are unwilling to be the underhanded manipulator that war needs." He looked back to Thor. "With father in the Odin sleep, and you banished, there was no one to lead them to war. I ended it by my own means! Yet, those means were the ones that will forever leave me an enemy to Asgard and it's people."

He reached up and placed his hand on Thor's arm. "Despite the brother and adopted mother who miss me."

Thor had never been one for quick thinking. Lightening reflexes, quick jabs, and flight feet, yes, but his mind often took quite some time to catch up with a problem that was presented to him. Not that it had ever been a problem before as he'd almost always had Loki at his side whispering in his ear the potential outcomes, strategies, possibilities that laid before him, and eventually, when he hadn't been so dumb to dismiss it all outright or formulate his own idiotic plan based off a completely incorrect summation of Loki's data, it had trickled through and prompted him into actions and ideas that were at least half manageable. But right now, even with the stresses that were being placed on words, Thor blinked at Loki in confusion, "Of course they are. It's what we've all been taught," Thor said. "Since we were younglings. Most of us know no way other than the warrior's way: strong, direct, frontal assault. But you adapted, brother. You did what none of the rest of us could," He said quietly as he dropped his eyes to Loki's hand and smiled lightly.

"With the Bifrost destroyed, your actions are the only thing preventing Asgard from being overrun by Frost Giants. Without Lefauy, without the casket, and with Jotunheim in ruinings, they won't be bothering us for a long time," Thor said quietly, his eyes still down turned. "And yet, they're celebrating me," He said quietly, turning his eyes back up to Loki with a heaviness in his gaze that had never been settled there before. Guilt, uncertainty, doubt, none of it had ever existed in Thor's psyche before, and yet, as an open book, all of it was laid clear to bare. "When all I did was cut off our access to the other realms entirely. Hardly a praiseworthy action."

The mood had grown maudlin far quicker than Thor would have liked even if it had been his own fault, but one to snap back from things quickly, Thor's contemplative expression slide slowly into a devious smile as he shifted his arm to wrap around Loki's neck and pull him down into a headlock and ruffle his hair. "Ye gods, I have missed you."

Before Loki could further explain himself, Thor had placed him in a headlock and began to fuss with his hair. Instantly, Loki's hands and arms shot up, gripping at his brother's arms as if they were small children again and none of the recent events had taken place. Just two of Odin's sons, wandering around Asgard, making merry of their situations and lives without a care in the world. Loki admitted to himself that he missed it, their relationship being so carefree and not needing to worry about the politics around them.

He chuckled; it was small and gentle, and perhaps only Thor could have heard it, but it was definitely there. Perhaps one of the most annoying traits about his brother was the inability to remain serious when the situation called for it. Still, Loki welcomed it. Perhaps in this strange realm they wouldn't have to compete or prove themselves to others. They could be two brothers again.

Loki gave a sigh. "You never were the one to remain serious for long." He commented.

"That is what I have you for, dear brother. You have more than enough maudlin temperament for the both of us," Thor said, the grin on his face deep and affectionate despite the apparent insulting undertone in the comment. Thor might have given his brother a great deal of trouble when they were growing up, but most had been in jest. And it was so easy to fall back into those same patterns now even though the tone had been softened, and he also no longer had his friends to join in and level insults on top of his playful commentary. "Besides, I have had far too much seriousness in the last few weeks. I do not know how blind I must have been to think I could ever take over for father with any level of competence."

"But let us not worry over such matters, brother," Thor said with a laugh. "We are here, and home will come when the Norns so decree. Until then, let us bask in a place where we have no titles, no duties, and no expectations."

"Father had no wars to worry of, only the fleeting hope of an alliance between the Asgard and the Frost Giants." Loki said, reaching up in an attempt to pull himself from the headlock. While the affection was appreciated, Loki had never been one for an extreme amount of affection. Recognition was all he needed. And he suddenly found himself thanking the realm for not bringing Thor's friends with him. Loki was not sure he could handle that level of mockery after all that had happened. Not without brash and dire consequences.

"You suggest that we be brothers." Loki glanced up at him. "And not the sons of Asgard... then, might I suggest, dear brother, that you look the part that you are suggesting. Walking about in this realm in your royal garb is not the most humble way of doing things."

Thor laughed again, finally releasing his brother and giving him a playful shove, "It isn't as though I've had much time to change," He said. "I have only just arrived. Besides, this armor has no pockets, and the item I was given is very uncomfortable jammed under my breastplate," He said, shifting awkwardly as if to illustrate the fact. Glancing left and right from the library, Thor furrowed his brow, though, he suddenly realized that he had absolutely no idea where to go from here. The library was the starting point, and he'd gotten a handful of details. But there wasn't really anything useful as far as day to day operations went.

"Of course, in order to do that, I would need something to change in to," Thor said, turning his attention to his brother with an expectant gaze. Because, yes, this was the name of the game when they were just Thor and Loki. Thor gets them into a situation, and Loki gets them out. It was a formula that he worked magically for years. Why mess with a classic?

"Of course." Loki rolled his eyes slightly. How typical of his brother: lean on the others and he would carry them the rest of the way. Nobel. He turned after fixing his hair, gesturing for Thor to follow him.

"Our gracious host has assigned us rooms to live in while we are kept." He said, choosing his words carefully and pointedly. "The information should be in the device you were given, although I doubt you have taken the time to divulge yourself into such matters. Let me see it." Loki held his hand out for the communication device.

Falling into step behind his brother, - willing behind for once, not an irritated behind where he's constantly waiting for a misstep in order to thrust himself out in front - Thor shifted in order to dig the phone out from where he'd stored it under his breastplate and placed it into Loki's outstretched hand, "Tis possible my luck with the contraption only extended to operating the voice function. Nothing else appeared to cooperate even after that gentlemen told me to be gentler."

In truth, Thor hadn't the first clue what he was doing with the item. Such equipment was hardly standard in Asgard, and he hadn't had much of a chance to do more than observe the use of the instruments while in Midgard. His knowledge of equipment fell primarily into the weaponry category.

"Not everything can be solved by swinging your hammer and making noise, brother." Loki stated calmly as he navigated easily through the device. He had taken the time to learn the device thoroughly before using the network to find what little answers he could. Then again, he was the thinker and Thor was the doer.

He gave a sigh. "It seems as if we are to share living quarters. Most likely there will be suitable attire waiting for you."

Ever the mature heir apparent, Thor screwed up his features at Loki's comment, making a face at the back of his brother's head. As if he'd even swung his hammer. The device was still in one piece, after all. If he'd tried to solve the problem the way he usually had, it wouldn't be. Thor had been about to make a comment to that effect when Loki spoke again. The sigh first had been a practical indication of the words that were coming. It was of those long-suffering ones only practiced by individuals who were constantly put upon by a situation and loved to make it known just how fussed they were over it.

Even when they really weren't.

"It seems as though this place has decided we benefit by each other's presence," Thor said, chuckling as he fell in step next to Loki and cast him a sideways glance, trying to hide the amusement in his features. "I certainly hope it isn't too off putting for you, brother. I promise I will be on my best behavior."

"It is hardly upsetting. Unless I have to babysit you all the time." Loki said dismissively, handing the device back to Thor.

They both knew that Even though he made it sound like a chore, Loki did indeed enjoy spending the time with his brother. It would be nice to have time between them that was not judged by others.

"Come now, brother. Do not act as though you have not had at least a little bit of fun beguiling in order to get me out of situations I completely bungle," Thor said, an edging of teasing in his tone. It was situations like that where Loki's gift had come in the most handy, keeping him from getting into petty disputes or getting him out of ones that he'd already brought on himself. "And no one is going to try and kill you here because of my stupidity."

At least, Thor could only hope that no one would take him that seriously. It didn't seem, upon first glance, like a place with many people who would react so severely to him putting his foot in his mouth. He wasn't going to say that it didn't seem like somewhere that someone who offer him a challenge, though. His brother was here, so it was hard to say whom else they might encounter.

"I certainly hope the many occupants of this city are far above that." Loki agreed. "From what I can tell this place is far too civil. What would make anything, mortal or immortal, so quaint with being trapped and kept in a cage?"

Loki looked to his brother, hoping that Thor would have the answer. He could understand what would make people content in a city for some time, but for years? Loki was unsure as to why there was no rebellions or anything else of that matter. To him, it made little sense. Thor, on the other hand, was far better at empathy with others.
