"Brought back" might be the wrong way to put it. I was rebuilt over two years by a human supremacy-oriented terrorist group.

Rebuilt? Do you mean like genetic reconstruction, or like bits and pieces rebuilt?

I really hate supremacists.

You'd have to ask the scientists that. I wasn't exactly awake to find out.

I do too, but they were right in this case. Human colonies were going missing and the goddamn bureaucrats wanted to do nothing but argue about whether it was even worth investigating.

Learned my lesson, though. I cut ties from them when their big boss discovered I wasn't going to compromise my ideals for the sake of technology.

Sorry, yeah, you don't need to get into that anyway.

Amazing how much damage bureaucrats can do, isn't it? Still, they didn't have to go bringing you back unasked to do it. At least, I'm assuming unasked. You didn't leave some contract around asking for it, did you?

Not that I know of. I think I would've remembered making a contract like that.

Terrorists or not, they gave me the resources to put a stop to the abductions when the Council didn't, and eventually the abductions would've hit other species. We were just the first. Something about genetic diversity.

Probably just a tad memorable, yeah.

Were they collecting "samples," then?

Not exactly.

They were harvesting humans. We took out their baseship from the inside, and it was... I saw things in there nobody should have to see, Jack.

Shit. That kind of collecting.

I really hate that shit.

Turns out genocidal machines bent on wiping out all organic life in the galaxy will do some pretty horrific things.

Yeah, believe me, I'm very familiar with the type.

The thought that somewhere out there are more giant machines hell-bent on harvesting organics isn't very comforting.

Yeah, that really wasn't comforting, sorry. Not-so-giant machines, in my universe and some similar ones, but still... I've been a bit too up close with them.
