Easter is approaching. I understand the religious meaning, but I must say the idea of an Easter bunny leaving gifts is a funny thought. I keep imagining a giant bunny hopping from house to house.

This is another one of those Earth traditions I'm not familiar with, isn't it?

Appears so. Easter is a religious holiday for Christians who believe their savior, Jesus Christ, rose from the dead on that day. The Easter bunny came from German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania. The idea is the Easter bunny brings sweets and gifts to children while they sleep, sort of like Santa Claus for Christmas.

We have Rabbits in Oz, but I can't see any of them bringing children sweets and things. How odd. I wonder what the reasoning for this tradition is, or is it just for fun?

It seems to come from a German "Easter Hare" about a rabbit judging whether children had been "good" or "bad".

Oh, so it really is very similar to the folklore of Saint Nicholas.

Yes. A tale to scare children into behaving.

I guess I'm not surprised that some things carry over from universe to universe. We have our own scary stories in Oz, but nothing that I would consider a way to bribe children into being good.

I am not surprised either. It is a bit comforting to think some things remain similar.

I suppose on some level we are all the same, no matter where it is we're from.

May I ask, why do you think that is?

The mind stone grants me humanity. I like to think there is a spark in me that creates my humanity as well, something like a soul for humans.

I imagine there is. That mind stone can't be the only reason you are the way you are.

TECHNICALLY it originated as a pagan tradition in celebration of the spring ekwi equinox and it got taken over to celebrate Jesus and that's why the day always changes and why it's always near passover.

Most holidays originate in the pagan traditions it seems.

Well they have been around for a super long time. And a lot of holidays take a lot of their traditions cause I think the Christians were trying to make pagan people like being Christian which seems weird but whatever that's about.

The tradition of the Easter Bunny probably comes from 17th century Germany, with the Osterhase as an egg-laying hare. The word Easter came from the goddess Eostre, who was celebrated at the beginning of spring. And then it all came to America and got sort of thrown into the cultural melting pot and we get the Easter Bunny.

I'm sad the boys are too old for the tradition now. They will still get sweets and presents, but they know it is from me.

Aw, I bet it is sad seeing them grow out of stuff like that. Nicole and I haven't talked about kids yet, but... I can almost imagine.

(And oops you'd already told that Easter Bunny origins to someone else, Vis, you gotta be like 'Waves I already knew that' because I'm so not used to having other nerds around!)
