Entry tags:*complete, 2025 12, character: rose granger, character: scorpius malfoy

RP: Rose and Scor
Who: Rose Granger, Scorpius Malfoy
Where: Granger-Weasley Home, London
When: 8 December 2025
Summary: Scor comes to visit Rose

Her weekend had been miserable; the worst since her hospitalization. While Lily's death left her in a void of emotion, her talk with Bryn left her sinking deeper than she though possible. She had been making progress, but with idea of actually losing Bryn kicking her in the head, Rose lost a little more hope that recovery was even worth it. Her family sent many things to help cheer her up, which she appreciated. Yet, nothing seemed to do much help.

By the time Wednesday rolled around, she was feeling semi-social and human-like, which was a good thing since Scor was coming by for a visit. Therapy that morning had gone well. They discussed the possibility of getting a new job; what interested her and where she could see herself working for a long period of time. By the time the session was over, Rose realized she had gone an entire hour and hadn't thought of Bryn once.

Afterward, she walked around London as part of her routine before returning home at noon. Even though her appetite was still lacking, Rose set out to make lunch for herself and Scor, who she imagined would be starved after practice. Whipping up a meal of Shepherd's pie, Rose slid the dish into the oven in time for it to be complete by her friend's arrival.

Scorpius was looking forward to seeing Rose, even if she was depressed. He was hoping to cheer her up. He had stopped to pick up a box of hot chocolate and two mugs, one of which was for him, to remind her that she had friends, even if Bryn was not there. He had magically etched their names on the mugs, and brought extra marshmallows in a second bag.

He knocked on the door, waiting for her. In a way, they had both been through a lot. While his situation was a little bit different, he was doing much better. He didn't speak of Lori much, although he still missed him, and it had taken everything he had not to send him an owl, or ten. He had to keep moving and that was what he intended to do. It was also what he wanted for Rose, to be able to keep walking, even when there were rough patches.

When she opened the door he smiled, holding up the gifts. "I brought presents," he announced, with a bright smile, leaning down to drop a kiss on her forehead.

Rose was pulling lunch out of the oven when she heard the knock at the door. Carefully, she placed the hot dish on a cooling rack on the counter before crossing over to the front door. She gave a small smile when she finally saw her friend; it seemed like ages since they were last together.

"Thanks," she said as she stepped aside to let him in after he gave her a kiss on the forehead. "I made some lunch. It's cooling in the kitchen." Shutting the door behind her, Rose gestured for him to follow.

"How was training today?"

"Training was good. I was actually really smart to spend all that time in the gym at Hogwarts. I wasn't so far behind when I had to start training here. I'm in pretty decent shape, turning into all muscle." He laughed at the joke. He was built just like his father, and even though he had toned up, he would never be big.

He walked in and took his things out on the kitchen table. "This is desert," he told her proudly. "There is one for both of us. Whatever you have cooking smells really good." He knew that she could cook, but that smelled great. If she was anything like her grandmother, it would be great.

"How are you feeling?" he asked her, with a small smile.

Rose busier herself with pulling out plates, silverware and some glasses as she listened to Scorpius talked about training. "What exactly did you do when you went to the gym?"

After giving them each a serving; Scor's portion larger than hers, she turned to see what he had brought. Smiling, she told him the mug was wonderful. "It's just Shepherd's pie; nothing extravagant."

Placing the plates on the table, she thought about how she was feeling. "Heartbroken," Rose answered truthfully. "And sad and unsure." She crossed over to the sink and poured them each a glass of water before returning to the table. "I don't know, Scor. Nothing is right any more. It's like the whole world is upside down."

"I worked mostly on endurance and stamina exercises. It turns out that Jazz is an excellent personal trainer," he smiled and then realized he probably shouldn't mention that. "Seriously, he helped me a lot, and I am stronger and my reflexes are even better."

"It smells good and I am starving," he grinned, taking a bite. His parents might turn up their nose at shephard's pie but he didn't. He had eaten like a poor man when he was on his own. "It's actually really good." He was eating more now, reflecting the increased level of activity.

He took another bite and reached over, taking her hand. "Do you remember how you were with me when I was the same way? I didn't know what to do with myself. We had all these plans. Lori and I were going to live together, and then it was just gone. I would have bonded with him, but now I realize that I shouldn't have. You told me that it would get better and it did. It will for you too." He really wanted to help her, knowing all too well how it felt.

Rose hadn't really been the type of girl who went to the gym. Even when she was practicing tennis; it was with Bryn in one of the empty rooms or by herself. Dr. Keller said she needed to exercise, so Rose was thinking about joining a gym somewhere nearby. "Jazz is a good man."

Nibbing on a small bite of food, she watched Scor dig into the meal. "I'm glad you like it," she replied, not caring one way or the other actually. "There's plenty if you want more."

Although Rose squeezed his hand when he reached over, she didn't think her situation was the same. While the two of them were in love, Lori and Scor didn't split up because one of them was depressed or sick. He never said that he never actually loved you...

"I don't want it to get better if he's not there when does. What would be the point?"

"Yes, well - just, yes," he said with a color to his cheeks. He had told her about that before, and she did seem alright with it. It was just a fun fling, and it had really helped him get his head back. "It did help me with the quidditch workouts too. It made them much easier."

He continued to eat, hoping she would too. "You know, even when I was training as an auror, I wasn't really hungry, but I wasn't really happy. Now, it's a lot different."

He looked up and tipped his head, not really sure what she was thinking. "The point is that you have you. A lot of people tried to tell me that. I was trying to make Lori happy and twisting myself into a pretzel over it. I was trying to do too many things. Having this time made me realize that I needed to do something for myself that I enjoyed. You need to get better for you, no one else - except maybe me." He laughed, teasing her gently with the last bit. "It doesn't seem like much now, but looking back, I understand it."

"That's good. Obviously, it worked," she said with a slight smile. "it's been suggested that I exercise regularly."

Rose shrugged; she knew about not really eating. "My appetite hasn't been around much in months," she said. "I'm sure it will come back eventually."

Everyone kept telling her that, yet saying she was focusing on herself was far easier than actually doing it. Every time she thought about herself, guilt ate away at her insides. "Nothing makes me happy anymore." It just reminds me of where I failed...my job...my marriage...my life...

"If it takes the rest of life to get better, you'll still be my friend right?"

"You should. It give you a great boost of energy," Scorpius grinned. "I thought it would just make me tired, but it doesn't. Now when I don't get in anything during the day, I get tired."

He arched his brow. "I know how that feels too. I always thought I was doing what was right. I lost my family, my job, some of my friends, my boyfriend. I never felt good enough, even though at times, that was not the case. Anyway, once I started putting myself back together, I felt better. You will find something, even if it doesn't seem like it right now. You are also stuck with me. You stuck by me and now it's my turn."

He offered a friendly smile. "Who ever thought I would be the one playing counselor? You were always better at that."

Rose sighed; that was what Dr. Keller said. Suppose I will have to go find some place now, she thought while at the same time having reservations about the whole thing.

Listening to Scorpius talk, she realized he did have some points even though their situations were much different; she still had her family. "It's nice to hear you'll be around for a while." Rose took another bite of food before snorting.

"I hate it when someone has a problem," she replied. Solving other people's problems are easier than dealing with my own. "I want to help and see if I can make things better."

He kept eating, taking a little more as well. "Where did you think I would be? I am not abandoning you because you feel bad." He bit his lip, cursing himself for the choice of words. Scorpius always seemed to say the wrong thing, especially when he didn't have to mind his thoughts so much. "I didn't really mean it like that but still."

"You like to make things better, but I'm sick of having problems. I think this is the first time the shoe has been on the other foot and it will probably be the last." He laughed thinking of how crazy he must have seemed. "You did put up with all of that."

"Do you know what I learned? I learned how to keep walking. You just take what you have to, and keep moving, and pretty soon, you don't have to force yourself to get up in the morning."

She didn't mean to, but she flinched at his words. "I know you didn't mean it that way," Rose said, reaching over and squeezing his hand. "It's one of my biggest worries; that I'll never get better."

Listening to her friend, she nodded. "You might be wearing that show for a while," she replied, her lips turning down into a frown.

Just like Aunt Audrey, he made it sound so simple. Yet, Rose kept coming back to the fact that she couldn't imagine a life without Bryn so how could she go on pretending it wasn't a factor. "I don't force myself out of bed every day."

"You will though." Scorpius said it easily, wanting her to believe that it would happen. "I was there. Things would never get better. I would always have all of this stress, and I was depressed. The trick is to believing that it will end. You can get through it."

He arched a brow. "I forced myself out of bed everyday, because waking up alone is awful. I didn't want to move. Now, I have too much to do. It gets better." He could only keep reassuring her, and she really had done the same for him.

"Have you talked to Bryn at all?" He wasn't sure he should ask, but it might give him a better picture.

Rose would have given anything to have it all to be over; for things to go back to when everything made sense and she wasn't so sad anymore. "It's easier to believe that on some days than it is on others."

Nodding, she told him that she still wasn't sleeping the way she used to. "I still want to see his face in the morning; feel his arms around me." Up until her talk with him on Friday, the hope that it would happen soon kept her going. Now she wasn't so sure.

"We spoke briefly last Friday," she replied, glancing down at her plate. "It didn't go well."

"I know," he nodded, continuing to eat. "There were days that I felt fine, and then it would hit out of nowhere." He really did love Lori. He wanted more for them than this, if Lori hadn't been so immature, and - . He didn't want to finish the sentence even in his head.

Waking up in the morning to someone you were in love with was one of the best feelings. Getting up without it was a chore that he didn't like. Now it was better but there were days that he would pay to change it. "Just keep going, and find other things to look forward too. You have to keep going for yourself."

He hoped it would go better for her. "What did he say?" he asked, thinking of all the times he wanted to talk to Lori and hadn't yet.

Rose knew that exact feeling; she would be working on something and she'd be reminded of a fallen family member or Bryn and she'd fall apart. Getting settled into a routine helped with some of the moments while talking in therapy helped with the others.

"I'm trying," she replied. "I looked forward to lunch today."

She didn't want to say it; it hurt so much. "He thinks we don't each other very well. That his proposal was a mistake," she said, unable to stop the tears that fell down her cheeks.

"I always look forward to seeing you," Scorpius said honestly. With her, he didn't have to pretend, or play games.

He had to force himself to swallow when she spoke. "He is so full of shit. It wasn't a mistake. The only mistake was us thinking he was more of a man. If things aren't going perfectly, you work them out, you don't go fucking anyone else, even if you are lonely." He stopped talking and bit his lip, realizing that he was talking about Lori, and all those things he didn't really say. "I'm sorry."

After taking a deep breath, she sniffed and wiped the tears away quickly. Frowning, Rose reached her arms over and gave him a hug. "I'm sorry you had to go through all that," she said. "And I'm sorry talking to me brings all those bad memories up again."

She gave him a final squeeze and looked down at her plate. She barely ate half of her small portion, yet she felt like she couldn't take another bite. The thing was he was partly right; they don't know each other very well. Still, Rose always thought that was part of being part of a relationship; learning the strengths and weaknesses about the other person until even their flaws make you love them despite the fact those same flaws probably drive you crazy.

"It's my fault really; I pushed him into getting married," she finally said. "I thought if there was just a little bit of happiness and joy in the world; I wouldn't be so sad anymore."

She let out a bitter sigh. "Some brilliant witch I turned out to be." No wonder Mum sees you as such a disappointment.

"I know, and it's fine. I can say that now and mean it. He obviously wasn't half the person I thought and I should have seen it, but I learned. There are days when I still miss him, but I can say that I have moved on." He turned and smiled. There were no more tears, even if he felt a bit of residual sadness for what could have been.

"What did you do? Twist his arm and drag him? You didn't do that. You wanted to be happy." He would have done the same thing at one time. "You are not stupid, or maybe I was. We are both going to be fine. We find ways to be happy that don't involve men, except in the physical sense."

She knew he was trying to cheer her up; shine a little light into the very dark space Rose hid herself in. However, hearing him basically say she should move on and learn to live with Bryn, hurt so much. Of course, it had always been in the realm of possibilities, but she did everything she could to keep the thought away. Please Merlin, don't let that happen. Make me well enough that Bryn remembers why he fell in love with me...

"You were not stupid; you were in love," Rose said. "Love can make you stronger than you thought possible, but it can also break you into pieces so small it would take years to repair."

Years to repair, he repeated to himself. "It felt like it would take years," he admitted. He wasn't sure that he had a good answer to that. "You have to remember that you can't live for someone else. You can't put so much into it, that you forget who you are." He raised a brow, knowing that was the right answer, at least for him.

"My big problem was that I lost sight of that. Trying to twist myself into some pretzel and be all things to all people - I was ridiculous. I wouldn't have been happy like that and neither will you. Do something for yourself, and you might be happy again. You will be amazed how much better you feel, and how people will see you differently. You will get yourself back."

Doing something for herself was never an easy task for Rose because much like her Gran, she preferred to think of others first. However, she was also used to doing things on her own. She got her first job because she visited Flourish and Blotts so much she knew where everything was; her trips to the museums over breaks were caused by her own interest. Merlin, why can't I go back to when things made sense?

"I'll try."

Reaching over, he wrapped an arm around her. "You know, it will work out. You will feel right again, even if I have to give you funny potions." He pulled back and smirked, showing that he was joking. "You are beautiful. You just need to believe it again."

He kissed the side of her face before releasing her. "Now eat something and don't make me feel like such a pig."
