After taking a deep breath, she sniffed and wiped the tears away quickly. Frowning, Rose reached her arms over and gave him a hug. "I'm sorry you had to go through all that," she said. "And I'm sorry talking to me brings all those bad memories up again."
She gave him a final squeeze and looked down at her plate. She barely ate half of her small portion, yet she felt like she couldn't take another bite. The thing was he was partly right; they don't know each other very well. Still, Rose always thought that was part of being part of a relationship; learning the strengths and weaknesses about the other person until even their flaws make you love them despite the fact those same flaws probably drive you crazy.
"It's my fault really; I pushed him into getting married," she finally said. "I thought if there was just a little bit of happiness and joy in the world; I wouldn't be so sad anymore."
She let out a bitter sigh. "Some brilliant witch I turned out to be." No wonder Mum sees you as such a disappointment.
