RP Thread - Hogsmeade Attack
 2 February Attack
parties involved
death eaters/order/ministry/media

2 February; it's been a quiet, almost dull Saturday. Hogwarts students were through the weekend before and their wild excitment leaves a peaceful town its wake. Shoppers shop, drunks drink, and clerks clerk with a cheerful sort of idleness. It is unfortunate that upon this day, an historical message will be sent to those who would seek to oppose the purist agenda: we will be heard.

Today marks the first attack in the history of the war upon wizarding civilians.

Today marks the true beginning of fear and terror in wizarding Britain.

I. The Beginning; an explosion and murder

Involved parties:
Death Eaters, civilians

[4.30 pm] Without warning, a blue explosion will shake Hogsmeade; in a flight of fancy, civilians may think the ghost of the shrieking shack has finally made his escape, but no - it is not the dead we must worry about but the living. Soon after the explosion rips open the Ministry's magistrate office, cloaked figures will appear from the smoke, and it is more than obvious they have no interest in giving terms. They will set upon the magistrate; murder and destruction will quickly follow.

Your part to play:

  • Bellatrix, Alecto, and Regulus should coordinate their efforts in this attack;
  • Civilians, if played, may feel free to run and scream and be afraid;
  • Order members, if present, should notify the organization and begin to move in.

II. The Action; an explosion and battle

Involved parties:
Death Eaters, Order of the Phoenix

[4.45 pm] As civilians run amok and abandon their houses to gawk at the unbelievable action, another explosion tears apart a section of Screechsnap Avenue and a nearby (empty) business. Several people are injured and the explosion and those at the center of the explosion are killed. The order of the phoenix arrives and sets upon the destructive Death Eaters, and a violent battle ensues between the opposing forces. One civilian is caught in the cross-fire and killed.

Your part to play:

  • Death eaters will continue to wreak havoc and battle the Order;
  • Order members will arrive and do battle against the DEs. Those Order members attached to the ministry should also notify Rufus Scrimgeour of what is going on;
  • Aurors will receive the news and coordinate rapidly via journals

III. The Resolution; reinforcements and retreat

Involved parties: Death eaters, Order of the Phoenix, Ministry

[5.00 pm] Aurors appear on the scene and begin kicking ass alongside their illegal vigilante friends (who have enough brains to disappear or pretend they were there by happenstance lest their identities become completely public knowledge). Death Eaters, having accomplished what they'd desired to accomplish and having no interest in fighting a large number of do-gooders, disapparate back into the blue mist of their destruction.

Your part to play:

  • Death Eaters should fight the good fight and then get the heck out of dodge;
  • Order members should make some efforts not to make it obvious they are part of a secret organization
  • Aurors should do their battle and keep a somewhat blind eye to the Order, if it is in their disposition to do so .

IV. The Epilogue; investigations and answers

Involved parties: Ministry

[5.15 pm] Civilians are angry, scared, and there is death and destruction everywhere. The aurors are one part of several departments that is involved in investigation and cleanup. It's obvious that the Death Eaters were responsible for this mess but how and why? How can it be prevented again and what can the Auror department offer to the public in way of reassurance?

Your part to play:

  • Aurors should investigate, cleanup, take notes, and attempt to be diplomatic

V. Supplements;

Hogsmeade attack locations:

Damage and casualties:

  • 1 house destroyed;
  • 4 houses, 1 empty business lot, and the magistrate's office damaged;
  • sixteen injured (in explosions and crossfire);
  • five dead (including the magistrate);
  • more TBA (feel free to offer up names, relatives, etc)

VI. Procedure;

  • Timestamp your journal entries that have to do with this plotline
  • Reply to the appropriate thread
  • Coordinate your efforts with others via AIM
  • Ask questions from your mods if you haven't a clue what's going on or how to get involved
  • Have fun :)

Frank had to duck and roll out of the path of the first Crucio blast, but he'd regained his feet in time to put up a proper shield for the second. Unforgivables, honestly. Trite, irritating, and punishable by life in Azkaban.

There was something rather funny about all this, Frank thought in the detached way he had when in mid-battle (rather like he had a spectre of himself floating above and observing things with a bit of a sardonic twist, and writing every little quirk down for him to review later). He didn't protest the opponent switch, as there wasn't time to debate things like this mid-battle. Still, Frank would have liked a shot back at the man trying to put him the throes of back-breaking pain.

The immobilizing spell wasn't exactly a surprise, but he gave the kid credit for at least having a bit of integrity. All he had to do was to re-strengthen his shield charm, however, and to move closer to the smaller Death Eater after the immobilizing attack had been shunted away.

"What are you doing, here? Do you enjoy torturing people? Killing them?" Frank gestured to the shop without taking his eyes off Regulus, although the boy's identity was still a mystery to the tall Auror. Quickly changing his gesture into a spell, Frank sent a pair at Regulus--

"Locomotor Mortis" - "Impedimentia!"

"Well, you know -- we all have our hobbies," Regulus quipped evenly without looking away from Frank.

Taken off guard by the sudden switch to a spell, Regulus only managed a weak Shield Charm, barely holding off the first spell and quite easily falling prey to the second. Knocked roughly to the ground, Regulus was forced to take one moment longer than he would have liked to recover and hop to his feet once again. How aggravating.

"Incendio," Regulus cast back with a hint of irritation in his voice, shooting the fire toward Frank.

Frank felt like rolling his eyes (but then, he wasn't the sort to roll his eyes, much less blink during a duel); at least Edgar's witticisms were entertaining. "Murder is your hobby?"

The Incendio spell caught him a bit off-guard, but the slowness of the caster left him just enough time to sidestep it. The shoulder of his jacket, while it did not ignite, was singed through at the shoulder.

Quite finished talking, Frank turned sideways to make himself less of a target and began firing a series of spells in rapid succession at the small DE--dueling was his forte, after all. It was obvious that the person behind the mask was inexperienced, and Frank couldn't help thinking that, perhaps, the boy had been pressured into it, brainwashed like the rest of the lot of them. Maybe there was rehabilitating him yet.

"Confundus! Stupefy! Petrificus Totalus!"

Hit by the first jinx, Regulus found himself suddenly and horribly perplexed, barely dodging the following two attacks by mere reflex. The chaos around him seemed to amplify in confusion; he stumbled backward a step and caught sight of his opponent, unable to make enough sense of the matter to feel at all comfortable sticking around.

When his eyes once again found the shop and the people inside, he did the first thing that came to mind and shot another powerful blasting hex at the roof in the hope that it would distract the older man long enough for Regulus to get away.

The kid was done. Frank was all set to stun and bind him when Regulus stumbled out of position and threw a desperate blasting curse at the roof of the already-damaged shop.

He didn't even have time to whisper the 'Christ' that forced its way to his lips before the ceiling started to fall on the people below, and he was firing off three or four different supporting, stitching, and levitating charms without taking a moment to breathe. The massive blocks of stone making up the roof groaned as if alive, but they stayed put. For the moment.

Frank bellowed at the citizens hiding within to run, and, after a moment to recover their wits, run they did. And, as holding up the roof of an entire building is not something one man typically undertakes on his own, Frank lifted his strained enchantments the moment the last child was pulled from the rubble. Even as the roar of the crash was still ripping into the air from behind him, Frank spun, looking madly for the small Death Eater.

Resisting the urge to turn back and watch, Regulus bolted down the streets of Hogsmeade, unable to figure out what to do. Now that his automatic reactions had carried themselves out, he was left with decisions to make and not the sense to make them; when the Confundus Charm finally began to wear off (it had hit him rather hard) he was able to think clearly enough to Apparate himself to safety. Evan would be able to hold his own, and it was essential that he leave before getting captured.
