RP Thread - Hogsmeade Attack
 2 February Attack
parties involved
death eaters/order/ministry/media

2 February; it's been a quiet, almost dull Saturday. Hogwarts students were through the weekend before and their wild excitment leaves a peaceful town its wake. Shoppers shop, drunks drink, and clerks clerk with a cheerful sort of idleness. It is unfortunate that upon this day, an historical message will be sent to those who would seek to oppose the purist agenda: we will be heard.

Today marks the first attack in the history of the war upon wizarding civilians.

Today marks the true beginning of fear and terror in wizarding Britain.

I. The Beginning; an explosion and murder

Involved parties:
Death Eaters, civilians

[4.30 pm] Without warning, a blue explosion will shake Hogsmeade; in a flight of fancy, civilians may think the ghost of the shrieking shack has finally made his escape, but no - it is not the dead we must worry about but the living. Soon after the explosion rips open the Ministry's magistrate office, cloaked figures will appear from the smoke, and it is more than obvious they have no interest in giving terms. They will set upon the magistrate; murder and destruction will quickly follow.

Your part to play:

  • Bellatrix, Alecto, and Regulus should coordinate their efforts in this attack;
  • Civilians, if played, may feel free to run and scream and be afraid;
  • Order members, if present, should notify the organization and begin to move in.

II. The Action; an explosion and battle

Involved parties:
Death Eaters, Order of the Phoenix

[4.45 pm] As civilians run amok and abandon their houses to gawk at the unbelievable action, another explosion tears apart a section of Screechsnap Avenue and a nearby (empty) business. Several people are injured and the explosion and those at the center of the explosion are killed. The order of the phoenix arrives and sets upon the destructive Death Eaters, and a violent battle ensues between the opposing forces. One civilian is caught in the cross-fire and killed.

Your part to play:

  • Death eaters will continue to wreak havoc and battle the Order;
  • Order members will arrive and do battle against the DEs. Those Order members attached to the ministry should also notify Rufus Scrimgeour of what is going on;
  • Aurors will receive the news and coordinate rapidly via journals

III. The Resolution; reinforcements and retreat

Involved parties: Death eaters, Order of the Phoenix, Ministry

[5.00 pm] Aurors appear on the scene and begin kicking ass alongside their illegal vigilante friends (who have enough brains to disappear or pretend they were there by happenstance lest their identities become completely public knowledge). Death Eaters, having accomplished what they'd desired to accomplish and having no interest in fighting a large number of do-gooders, disapparate back into the blue mist of their destruction.

Your part to play:

  • Death Eaters should fight the good fight and then get the heck out of dodge;
  • Order members should make some efforts not to make it obvious they are part of a secret organization
  • Aurors should do their battle and keep a somewhat blind eye to the Order, if it is in their disposition to do so .

IV. The Epilogue; investigations and answers

Involved parties: Ministry

[5.15 pm] Civilians are angry, scared, and there is death and destruction everywhere. The aurors are one part of several departments that is involved in investigation and cleanup. It's obvious that the Death Eaters were responsible for this mess but how and why? How can it be prevented again and what can the Auror department offer to the public in way of reassurance?

Your part to play:

  • Aurors should investigate, cleanup, take notes, and attempt to be diplomatic

V. Supplements;

Hogsmeade attack locations:

Damage and casualties:

  • 1 house destroyed;
  • 4 houses, 1 empty business lot, and the magistrate's office damaged;
  • sixteen injured (in explosions and crossfire);
  • five dead (including the magistrate);
  • more TBA (feel free to offer up names, relatives, etc)

VI. Procedure;

  • Timestamp your journal entries that have to do with this plotline
  • Reply to the appropriate thread
  • Coordinate your efforts with others via AIM
  • Ask questions from your mods if you haven't a clue what's going on or how to get involved
  • Have fun :)

Regulus would be fine. Evan knew he could not focus on his friend or he would lose too much to this particularly clever Auror. His cheeks burned beneath the mask.

He turned his attention full on Edgar and ground his teeth at the man's nauseating smarm. "Protego!" was immediate. As the Stinging Hex dissipated, he charged through the Shield and raised his fist to wipe that disdain from Edgar's face.

He wavered -- Edgar Bones honestly wavered as the surprise of a Death Eater choosing to engage in physical battle washed over him. For just a few brief moments, the disdain was replaced by shock, and just a tiny amount of respect. This was unusual, far from the modus operandi of anyone he'd fought before; anyone dedicated to the Dark Arts, that was...your everyday wizard on the street didn't usually have a problem with landing a punch if he was able. So what did that mean for his opponent? Halfblood, perhaps...foreign? Edgar didn't know, but he was sure that it was important.

Edgar dropped, twisting as he went to Disapparate, and re-appearing with a resounding 'crack' three feet away from where he had been. He'd been too late to do it well, however, and staggered a good foot sideways as his feet touched solid ground again. Evan was tricky, and able to adapt -- two traits Edgar hated in his enemy. Why couldn't they all just be insane?

His non-verbal magic was about the only advantage Edgar had left, since his opponent had all the momentum, skill and anger to fuel his movements; still, he gripped that slim advantage like a dying man, firing off a silent Disarming Charm. "If you don't want to use your wand," he said with a sneer, "then you presumably won't mind if I have it off you for a while?"

The sudden Disapparition of his opponent caused a fleeting moment of pleasure to course through Evan's veins. I've done it, I've succeeded -- was immediately cut off by the loss of his wand to the ground a few metres to his left.

The loss was immediate, sudden and painful. But his immediate reflex was to seek it out again, no matter what the cost. "You should be on the stage!" he roared. He wanted to feel Bones's body break beneath him.

He dove after the slim column of wood, skidding among the dirty detritus in the gutters to grasp it and flip onto his back. "Aguamenti!" he wanted the water to distract the Auror while he rose and resituated the battle to suit his own needs.

"Well, one plays to th-" He was cut off mid-sentence by the force of the water suddenly spraying up at him. Whether or not the Death Eater had intended it, his obvious fury towards Edgar's Disarming had increased the power of his charm what felt like a hundred-fold (though perhaps, in hindsight, the exaggeration was a little severe). Blasted directly in the face by the jet of water, Edgar was lifted off his feet to make contact heavily -and painfully- with the wall behind him. The building shook precariously: it had already taken a hit or two, and looked decidedly shaky.

Staggering to his feet, Edgar thrust his wand out viciously. "Incendio!" he cried, following the fire jinx with a Severing Charm right on its tail. It was a long shot that the bastard might catch fire and get slashed, given that the water still dripping from him had obscured Edgar's aim somewhat, but at least one might make its target. Apparently, Edgar's warm-up act had finished...and the show was about to start.

The line of fire spun toward Evan as he tried to dodge it by skidding to his left (albeit too late) and for his trouble, he received a mark that sliced through his mask and sizzled on his cheek. He could feel the blood begin to ooze ...

The half-second that it took him to react felt like eons. He had watched the man sever the fire with a swift flick of his wrist as he flung it toward him ... could it remain attached (whip-like?) to the end of a wand? He would have to experiment ...

But he was about to lose his anonymity. His hand pressed hard against his mask so that the heel of his palm and the hard material would dig into his flesh to quench the flow. "I want to leave you something! Something grand," he said, striding toward Edgar. "Something to remember me by."

He stopped mere feet from him and aimed his wand straight at Edgar's chest. Crucio was cast silently. He knew he needed to Disapparate but he wanted to wait ... he wanted to see if his curse hit home.

Of course it did. How could it not, from the distance they were at? Edgar's wand was raised, hesitant to cast the first hex even at this distance, for fear of losing his cool and casting something that even the Aurors wouldn't be able to turn a blind eye to. His defensive stance was good but simply not good enough. Bones had never seen the Cruciatus curse cast non-verbally before, and he barely had time to see the jet of light erupt from Evan's wand before he could react.

"Protego!" he cried, as the curse hit him squarely in the chest. There was a searing rush of pain --enough to make him hiss in anger-- before his own protection made it subside, but it left him just enough time to fire off a Blasting curse before the villain made good his escape. "I don't think there's any chance I'm going to forget you, you sneaky bastard." There was no empty threat in Edgar's words -- he knew that voice now, and would be waiting for it.

He smiled anyway, to see his opponent writhe in pain even if it was for a small amount of time. "You remember. Every nuance -- " was all he managed before Edgar's Blasting Curse knocked him off of his feet and into the opposite building that crumbled beneath his sailing weight.

In the midst of the rubble, spitting dust and mud from his mouth, he realised that the mask had all but disintegrated from his face and with a start, he covered himself with the hem of his cloak before using his wand to Disapparate.
