About the Game

Birthright is an original, supernatural/horror genre roleplaying game set in present day Clark County, Nevada. The area is the site of an ancient battle between mystical entities, which left an energy spring not connected to any known ley line. Over the centuries, it attracted supernatural beings and magic users, but it was remote and inhospitable until modern technology made things like railroads, electricity, and highways possible. The county has drawn its fair share of ‘food’, as well, thanks to the gold rush and, later, tourism. The supernatural have managed to keep their presence under wraps.

... and taking a look around what's happening just outside our state borders, there's been another one of our neighbour state's towns who've suffered home invasions in the last 24 hours. If you remember there were two towns last week, Mitchell in Oregon, and just inside the border of Oregon and Idaho, the small town of Vale reported home invasions last week.

Reports tonight indicate that two people are now missing after a home invasion in the small town of Grand View, Idaho.

Police have been unable to find any traces of DNA to give them any leads, so are requesting residents to make sure they lock their doors at night, and keep themselves safe.

Now to the weather, and the skies are clear...

"Over two-hundred members of the UNLV campus community gathered last night to mourn the death of a student. Twenty-year-old Shannon Foust was found dead on Tuesday near the 515 overpass on Flamingo Road. The crime has shocked the campus, with students describing Foust as a friend to everyone. Foust transferred to UNLV from the Community College of Southern Nevada last year.

We spoke to Alvin Roberts, the Dean of Students at UNLV, who said Foust was studying Anthropology and was active in the Triple Moon Society and the Interfaith Alliance. Last night's candlelight vigil is the first of several activities the campus has planned in response to the murder. There will also be crisis counseling available and a public safety forum on Friday. The incident has raised concerns about security among students, with some calling for it to be investigated as a hate crime following a triple homicide on Haverford Avenue.

The Clark County Police Department declined to comment on whether the murder might be bias-motivated, but says that a full investigation is underway.

Homicide

[info]birthrightnpc
[info]birthrightrpg
LAS VEGAS, NV — A spokesperson with Clark County Police Department confirmed that a body found near the 515 overpass on Flamingo Road is that of twenty-year-old Shannon Marie Foust, a student at the University of Las Vegas. Foust was reported missing on December 13 by university police, who cooperated with the Clark County Police Department on the investigation. Police found no signs of foul play at Foust's campus apartment. Friends say that Foust left campus with an unknown male suspect, approximately 5'7 to 5'9" tall with short, brown hair and a thin build. Witnesses say he was wearing a black hoodie, jeans, and a baseball cap. The university plans to hold a candlelight vigil tomorrow night at 6pm in front of the student union. There are no suspects in custody. The Clark County Police Department asks anyone with information to call the crime line.

[info]birthrightrpg
LAS VEGAS, NV — A spokesperson with Clark County Police Department confirmed they are investigating a triple homicide that occurred in East Las Vegas on Sunday night. Before 10p.m. police were called to the 3000 block of Haverford Avenue after getting a call about a noise and light disturbance in the area. They arrived to find 28-year-old Jada Blount, 43-year-old Serena Martin, 52-year old Michael Gilson dead at the scene.

Neighbor Joe Francis, who called 911 to report the disturbance, told the Las Vegas Review Journal that the home where the bodies were found belongs to Martin. Francis described Martin as friendly and well-known to neighbors as the owner of Third Eye Books.

No information is known about Blount and Gilson at this time. There are no suspects in custody. The Clark County Police Department asks anyone with information to call the crime line.

LAS VEGAS - Authorities are claiming up to twenty victims are known to have died, following the recent massacre in a Las Vegas medical ward. Outcry has been widespread over social media, following the revelation of CCTV recordings turning up only corrupted data. Witness testimony has proven just as baffling, with no reports of firearms used in the attack, descriptions of Halloween costumes and mutilation of cadavers.

Unsubstantiated reports of cannibalism have yet to be officially confirmed.

Police are seeking to question two Caucasian females fitting between late teenage and early twenties, fitting the attached artist's impression. Due to the obvious use of prosthetics, authorities have warned that this estimate may not afford visual accuracy and are appealing for any pictures or video which may have been recorded on mobile devices. So far, a surprising lack of these have come forward.

Some experts, however, have expressed scepticism. Doctor Klass, a nearby psychologist, informed us that, "During a crisis, human perception is notoriously unreliable. We've already had two leaked reports, indicating one of he young women somehow manifested a mouth of sharp teeth and began to gorge herself on the victims. Clearly, this is untrustworthy and, I would hazard a guess, more due to the witness perhaps ingesting something of an illegal nature, than anything which might have been consumed at the hospital. Mass hysteria is often to blame for such outlandish claims and, especially, if those responsible were wearing masks or horror-themed outfits, the human mind is extremely susceptible to allowing one's imagination to fill in the blanks, as it were."

Some have called Doctor Klass' interpretation, itself, into question and point out the phenomena of mass hysteria has never been scientifically proven. Klass, however, has hit back:

"Take, for instance, another recent fiasco involving the conflagration of an Italian restaurant. Should we have believed those witnesses who were convinced it was down to - and I quote - a 'floating orb'? I don't doubt they saw something extraordinary, but... Really. Sometimes a fire really is just a fire. And our hearts should go out to these latest victims who, in my professional opinion, are being taken advantage of by the flimflimmery of the gullible. We only need to look at how a fight broke out among people dressed in costume, in the town of Searchlight, for another example of how imagination overwhelms basic common sense. Many of these people make money out of their deceptive nature on convention circuits, selling books and other merchandise."

Doctor Klass wished us to let readers know they can find out more by purchasing his own book, 'Top Klass: The Conspiracy Of Doubt', available from all prominent suppliers.

SEARCHLIGHT - Last night, Lucky's Saloon proved not so fortunate, after a gang of drunken Japanese cartoon convention attendees entered into a drunken brawl on their way to Las Vegas. By all accounts, unsuspecting customers found themselves amidst a frightening array of life-like monster costumes, with a number of physical altercations being reported. Concerns of animal abuse were noted after one young woman apparently opened up with a concealed firearm on an escaped bear, but as with much of the resulting hyperbole, this proved to be unfounded after local law enforcement turned up to find not a single dead body.

"This would never have happened, back in Verlie Doing's day," said one town resident. Though our reporter did hear some murmurings of disagreement, with another observing such a time now, "Feels like a lifetime ago."

The costume parade, itself, was described by many as obscene, with at least one dressed as an array of writhing penile extensions, complete with a sophisticated functional hydraulic pumping ink-spraying mechanism. A sorry example of otherwise creative engineering talent led, sadly, astray.
