CLARK COUNTY, NV - New barricades block the turn-off to a piece of land known to locals as the El Dorado Cemetery, an unauthorized pet burial ground just off Highway 95 between Boulder City and Searchlight, Nevada. The area has been off-limits to visitors since September 27, when neighbors reported a disturbance on the property.
“People want to know if the graves of their four-legged friends are intact," said Cynthia Travis, a resident of Boulder City. "But they're not letting anyone in."
The pet cemetery was reportedly vandalized, but the extent of damage of unknown.
Tucker Wagner, a long-time resident of Henderson and unofficial caretaker of the property, says people are disturbed. "Nobody's saying what happened, but I flew my drone over it and that [expletive] is messed up. There's all these holes in the ground. It looks like the set of Tremors in there. We need some answers!"
Other residents shared Wagner's concerns.
"We all know what happened. I saw a cow-dog get hit by a humvee in my front yard last weekend. When we were cleaning it up, I found a pink rhinestone dog collar," said Juanita Smith of Searchlight. "You ask me, it's Area 51 running experiments in Clark County."
"Anyone claiming that the vandalism at the pet cemetery is connected to the recent rabid animal incidents in Las Vegas and Searchlight is spreading unsubstantiated rumors," said Sheriff Jim Hobson of the Clark County Police Department.
The Clark County Police Department is investigating.
So far, no one has been charged.
