Who: Shane, Shiloh and Aaron
What: Shane has a delightful hole in his stomach in need of stitching.
Where: 104
When: Immediately following this.
Warnings: Gore, mentions of wound stitching, and swearing likely.

All Shane wanted just now was to go to sleep. His vision was black around the edges and his head was light. It would be very easy just to lay back on the bed and pass out. Hell, it would be easy to pass out right now, and just let his body fall where it liked.

He focused on the pain throbbing in his side to keep himself awake and alert. Even exhausted as he was, he knew he couldn't afford to fall asleep, not when there was enough blood on his shirt to make not waking up a distinct possibility.

He kept one hand, still tipped with claws, wrapped around his stomach, covering the wound as he dully watched Shiloh fetch supplies to stitch him up with. God, he'd been stupid. This was it, for a while. He couldn't be hunting anyone down if it was going to endanger other people and nearly get him killed. This couldn't happen again, wouldn't happen again, and he wasn't going to continue his work until he was sure it wouldn't.

Aaron took it generally. He took it to mean, was what he could do something he had control over, like did it have a nice little switch, or did he just get hit with it whenever somebody walked in, just like now. "Yeah." Aaron turned abruptly, wan face dripping, and lifted his palm in Shane's direction, fingers curving through the air. "You're wondering how it works, you're smug I can't hurt you without being hurt, you feel sorry for me, and you're ignoring how much pain you're in." His arm dropped, and that familiar lift of his chin came back, daring Shane to contradict him. This was a little arrogant, even for Aaron. What he did feel was curiosity, slight satisfaction, distanced sympathy, and pained chagrin. The rest was just connect-the-dots.

Shane narrowed his eyes, but he lacked the energy at this point to be truly incensed about another invasion of his privacy. "I'd say smug is the wrong word," he said. Otherwise, it was mostly right.

He shifted slightly in the chair, trying to find a position that was comfortable. Or less painful, more accurately. He remembered Aaron's blank, horrified, entranced look from the night before. "Is that why you came into the alley?"

Aaron's mouth twisted, but smug wasn't the right word for what he was feeling, either. In fact a lot of what he was feeling was still what Shiloh had felt a few minutes ago, but even that somewhat alien calm threaded with well-hidden hurt was a far better than all that... other stuff.

Aaron shrugged the a patented Aaron I-don't-care shrug. "That was kind of like being caught up in some kind of tornado made of steel wool and that stuff you scrub bathtubs with." He swallowed a little, and looked up to pretend he was fine. "But I guess that's kind of what you're going for, huh?" He eyed Shane.

Shane smiled faintly at him. "Not exactly."

"You caught me at a bad time," he deadpanned, glancing toward Shiloh's door unconsciously. He wondered, not for the first time, how these two had ended up together. "If it was so awful, why didn't you run in the other direction?"

Shiloh took exactly three showers, and he made sure to dress in something he never wore to work in - a nondescript linen petticoat and a soft blue sweater. When he walked back into the living room, his hair was damp and his face scrubbed clean. He didn't say anything immediately, waiting for Aaron's reaction.

Shane's question just got a shrug.

Aaron didn't say anything. He just looked at him, and then looked down at all the cereal on the floor before making a vague attempt to sweep it into a pile with one sock. He understood that Shiloh felt bad, and that he was trying to help, but emotions weren't like smells or dirt. You couldn't just wash them off. Some things helped, though, things like Shiloh's state of mind, which seemed to make it hard for things to stick to him for very long. It was better because of the time that had passed, not because of the shower, but Aaron didn't want Shiloh to feel bad, so he didn't say anything at all.

Off-hand, though, he was in a skirt again, and Aaron just wasn't used to that yet. He looked sideways at Shane, already preparing to be defensive about the skirt thing. If he, Aaron, wasn't going to make Shiloh feel bad on purpose, then Shane sure as hell wasn't.

In the grand scheme of things, a boy in a skirt wasn't all that shocking. If anything, Shane would devote much more thought to the lines etched in Shiloh's chest hidden under those soft, feminine clothes than what he was wearing over them.

He glanced back at Aaron, nonplussed, and then pushed himself out of the chair, carefully. Shiloh was back, releasing him from his obligation to stay in the room, and they likely wanted to talk without him in the way.

Shiloh quietly made his way to the kitchen and grabbed a broom, and he proceeded to start sweeping the pile of lucky charms. He was close to Aaron again, but he didn't touch him. "Are you alright?" he asked, looking at Aaron and then at Shane, then looking at the broom as he swept. He was worried, but it didn't show, and he was concerned about just how delicate Aaron's sense were. He needed to think through solutions, but he was trouble getting his head around that just now.

Aaron backed off from Shiloh, but he really, really tried to pass it off as casual. A casual three steps in the other direction. "Yeah, sure." Aaron looked toward Shane, expression conflicted, and then back at Shiloh. "I'm... gonna got get a shower too." And he went, walking really quickly so that Shane didn't even have time to balance on his feet before Aaron disappeared down the hallway.

Shane watched him go with a hint of surprise. Whatever it was that let him pick up on everything a person had no right to know about someone else, it seemed like it was sensitive enough that Shiloh cleaning up hadn't affected it one bit, no matter how tough he tried to be about it.

He rested one hand on the handle of the refrigerator to keep upright. "Has he always been...like that?" he asked, because he wasn't particularly sure what it should be called.

Shiloh leaned against the top of the broom, and he watched Aaron go. He felt an overwhelming sadness at the fact that Aaron was so unhappy around him. It wasn't what he had wished for when he had learned his baby brother was alive, and he wished he knew a way to make it better for Aaron.

"It isn't his fault." He looked over at Shane when he spoke, noticing the way the man leaned against the refrigerator. He put the broom aside, and he went and slid his arm around Shane's waist. The touch commanding, despite the soft fabric covering him. He started walking Shane toward his bedroom, unspeaking.

"It doesn't look that way," he said. All evidence seemed to point to it being out of Aaron's control--but that didn't mean he had to accept it wholeheartedly.

He almost, almost fought that grip, the same way he had the night before, but he didn't. He didn't like it, but he knew when it made sense to reject help and when it didn't. He still tried to support his own weight as much as possible, however, unwilling to rest his full weight on him. He tensed as the simple act of walking pulled hard on the stitches. How pathetic that he couldn't even make it as far as the bedroom unaided.

Shiloh stopped moving when Shane tensed. "We'll move again when you stop that," he said, patiently chastising.

He stopped, taking a moment to hide his flash of frustration at halting his momentum and force himself to stop tensing. When his muscles were a little more relaxed, he looked over at Shiloh. "Better?" he asked, no trace of his irritation in his voice.

Shiloh considered, and he nodded. He didn't look put out or annoyed, and if he heard the irritation in Shane's voice, he didn't show it. He started moving toward the bedroom again silently. And once he had Shane inside, he nudged him toward the bed, expression brooking no argument.

He didn't have to be encouraged all that hard, but still held himself as erect as possible before sitting on the bed. He resisted the urge to collapse as tempting as it was, and pulled his legs onto the bed without pulling the covers up. "I was telling Aaron that I'll only be staying as long as I have to." He meant it as a promise. They were both already far too involved in this for his liking, and the sooner he could extricate them from it, the better.

Shiloh didn't respond to that, because it was a silly statement that required no response. He pushed Shane onto his back firmly, and he leaned over him a second, hair falling into Shane's face. "Stay," he said, and it wasn't clear if he meant just then or something more. He stood, and he walked to the dresser, collecting items to check Shane's injury.

Shane looked up at him, unable to hide his surprise. He didn't know what he meant by that. He assumed that he meant to keep him around until he was fully healed. Or was that making too much of it? Shiloh was a mystery, difficult to read. When his hair brushed against Shane's face the scent of him, soap and hard water and hints of those other people still lingering, washed over him. He watched him warily.

He had no idea what to make of him, and he didn't know what to do about it.

Shiloh returned to the bed, and he sat beside Shane. He put the supplies down, and he tugged the bandaging covering the stitches off. He did it fast. A quick yank to minimize time in pain. He looked at the stitches closely, leaned over and blew on them to cool them, then he ran his fingers around the surrounding skin. It was a light touch, something intended to be soothing, and he looked up at Shane's face to see if he seemed to be in pain before proceeding.

The bandage coming off was nothing compared to the whole variety of pain he'd been feeling from the wound. He didn't even wince. Shiloh's breath over the wound was enough to make him twitch slightly just from the strangeness of the sensation, but the soft touch of his fingers on the over-sensitive skin around the wound was calming.

He stilled, blue eyes focused tightly on Shiloh. The thought suddenly popped into his head that he could think of no one else who'd had the opportunity to touch him this often aside from Boyd, and if Shiloh saw fleeting pain on his face when he looked up it was that thought that caused it, and not anything physical.

Shiloh's fingers stilled when he saw the pain in Shane's eyes. He didn't know what had caused it, but he didn't want to make it worse. He watched Shane's face, his expression calm, unconcerned. "It won't take very long to heal." He promised, then suggested. "A warm bath might help. It softens the healing skin."

He smoothly adjusted his own perception of the pain, telling himself it was just the hole in his side. "That may be a good idea," he said. The wound was clean, but the rest of him wasn't, and a shave might help in making him feel more like a human being.

Shiloh didn't wait for any indication that Shane needed help. He stood, and he walked into the bathroom, where he ran a bath, checking the water temperature carefully.

As he walked back out into the room, he pulled off the sweater, a white wife-beater underneath, and he closed the distance to the bed. It was an easy thing to slide a hand behind Shane's back and help him sit up, then stand.

This time around the help didn't feel irksome, his thoughts already in the bathroom where the bath awaited. He'd had no clue he wanted one until he thought about having one, and now he felt a distinct desperation to get some semblance of clean. "Thank you," he said quietly, eyes on the bathroom door.

Shiloh's acknowledgement of the thanks was to help Shane to his feet wordlessly. He helped him into the bathroom, but he didn't leave. He'd seem more people naked than he could count - male and female - and he lowered his hands to Shane's jeans and undid the zipper and the button, without looking down.
