Entry tags:big bad wolf, willful child

Who: Shane, Shiloh and Aaron
What: Shane has a delightful hole in his stomach in need of stitching.
Where: 104
When: Immediately following this.
Warnings: Gore, mentions of wound stitching, and swearing likely.

All Shane wanted just now was to go to sleep. His vision was black around the edges and his head was light. It would be very easy just to lay back on the bed and pass out. Hell, it would be easy to pass out right now, and just let his body fall where it liked.

He focused on the pain throbbing in his side to keep himself awake and alert. Even exhausted as he was, he knew he couldn't afford to fall asleep, not when there was enough blood on his shirt to make not waking up a distinct possibility.

He kept one hand, still tipped with claws, wrapped around his stomach, covering the wound as he dully watched Shiloh fetch supplies to stitch him up with. God, he'd been stupid. This was it, for a while. He couldn't be hunting anyone down if it was going to endanger other people and nearly get him killed. This couldn't happen again, wouldn't happen again, and he wasn't going to continue his work until he was sure it wouldn't.

Shiloh's acknowledgement of the thanks was to help Shane to his feet wordlessly. He helped him into the bathroom, but he didn't leave. He'd seem more people naked than he could count - male and female - and he lowered his hands to Shane's jeans and undid the zipper and the button, without looking down.

He put a hand on his arm without thinking. "I can do that," he said, swiftly. He could sacrifice his pride to an extent, but injury or no injury, he had to cling to some scrap of it. He seemed genuinely more concerned with taking off the pants himself than he did with Shiloh seeing him naked, and he pulled them off. It wasn't necessarily easy, since bending at the waist made him wince, but he kicked them off and stepped into the tub, settling down. The water was warm but not too warm. The stitching stung a little, but it was a good sting. He felt better from the second he got into the water, running wet hands through his hair, slicking it away from his face.

Shiloh couldn't help himself. He smiled at the stubbornness, and he handed Shane soap - no washcloth. "There's a time not to be stubborn."

He ran the soap over his arms and legs before he even attempted to wash his torso, which he did thoroughly and carefully. "Really?" he asked, smiling faintly, looking over at him. "That's news to me."

Shiloh leaned against the bathroom counter, watching openly. "Not knowing when to quit being stubborn is dangerous, risky," he said. "There's a time to give in. When the damage can outweigh the benefit."

"I believe I'll know that point when I meet the point where giving in is the best option," he said, really inspecting the wound for the first time, carefully feeling it out beneath the water, his probing fingers refracted at an impossible angle. "I haven't yet."

"You're certain you're the best judge of that?" Shiloh asked, looking down at the wound bluntly. It wasn't difficult to interpret the look or his meaning.

Shane held his gaze briefly, then dunked his head under the water, flicking it back when he came back up to get his hair out of his eyes, spattering water on the tile. "I am," he said, watching traces of dried blood that had collected around the stitches dissolve and float away from his abdomen in faint pink trails. "I don't see a time coming when the damage outweighs the gain." He shrugged. "And if I did give up, what would I do then?" He knew what he was talking about, though he doubted Shiloh did. Unless Aaron had gone into his head and relayed everything to Shiloh, of course, which was always a possibility.

"We can talk about it once you're done here," Shiloh said, after watching Shane duck under the water and watching the dark hair drip against his forehead and the nape of his neck.

With that, he turned and he left the bathroom.
